HOOD REPAIR

Recommended Posts

I had a front flotation blow out, and wipe out the R/F fender on my RD688S tri-axle dump truck.  Has anyone ever repaired a hood after this type of thing?  I don't have any of the pieces that came off of it.  I am trying to avoid buying a new hood for $1,800.

I had a mate who had same thing happen on a KW. Try and find another bonnet so your repairer can take a mould. Or find a damaged bonnet going cheap to cut up.

Its do-able but depends on price of labour. My mate told me down here the KW bonnet brand new was going to cost $9,000.

It can be done, but with out the pieces it is almost impossible for most people. If you can get the section you need it is fairly easy to  fix. Get Glass mat, some cloth and resin from a Marine shop like West Marine or a good body supply. Body filler use Gorilla Glass for doing Vettes and boats, it has fiberglass strands in it.  Their resin and glass are commercial grade unlike the general parts stores and big box stores.

Put a want listing  here on BMT, some body might have a old hood laying around. If not than most likely find it in a salvage yard or find one in a fleet yard.
