Red e mix here in omaha had a bunch of DM 487’s back in the early 70’s, scania’s with auto trans and a three way auxiliary, really, really gutless, i bought one real cheap, when i was finally done, had a 285 horse, mack 12 spd. I wonder were these built for the plough truck market Now with my vast experience (a few days in the snow) one thing I noticed was diesels can be a pain in the bum to start when really cold, and I haven't seen really cold yet Were as petrol (gas) are good starters and talking to a couple of people that do a lot of ploughing the automatic transmission appears to be pretty handy One fella was slightly less than impressed with the new Dodge Ram as there is no column change for the transmission but a dial on the dash So dumb ass me is thinking that easy starting in really cold temps and a auto are kinda more important than running at 70 MPH for a plough truck To quote Swishman "What sez you ?" Most of the rural roads your are working mostly about up to 30 MPH. Here is a picture of a real plow truck I had handy. They may be all right for their purpose, but will not be much help when the wind starts drifting the snow..
