  1. HK, You have an excellent point on broken trucks and down time!!! My trucks are toys and not for work. If I had to get one up and on the road, my way would cost more than I might save in 'Junk Yard' parts! Before running, all the parts, bumper to bumper, will have been checked and rebuilt. Speed, That is the gear ratios of my 2-speed. It is electric. I think that you mentioned that you had a vaccum shift rounded up, and wanted to convert to electric. The last 12 volt shift unit I bought was $50.00/$60.00 and that was some time ago. The rebuild kit a month ago, with some discount, was $48.00. Packer
  2. I picked up a set of 4:17 for $450.00 from a truck wrecking yard in Idaho (Holts). I also got a Mack two speed complete housing (5:XX and 7:XX) front loader in New Jersey for $500.00. Packer
  3. I always used the wheel (Budd) and set the toe-in at 1/16 inch. about the same distance as Rob's way. Used to have a long rod with an adjustable end. Set it on the front of the wheel and then the back and eyeball it in. Being lazy, I only had to jack up one wheel!!! Packer
  4. Think of the Maxi as two systems. One side of the maxi has a spring in it. With no air, the spring pulls the slack adjuster rod, rotates the 'S' cam and holds the brakes on. Air pressure is built up when the engine is started, The valve in the cab is pushed, air enters the spring chamber, compresses the spring and releases the brakes.If a brake line to the service brakes wears thru or whatever, the spring is still compressed and stays that way until the air drops below about 60psi. At this time the spring starts to unwind setting the brakes. Service brakes work as they are needed; a little air, a little brake - - - A lot of air, a lot of brake. This is where the "Quick Dump" valves that Freightrain metioned comes into the system. As one more little item pops into my head........... The "Tractor Proction" valve will, in the old systems, will still leave one end or the other with brakes to get to the side of the road - - - or home if ya got big ones! Packer Hey Speed!!!   5. The ATF thing was the answer to a bunch of fuel related problems back when Moby Dick was still a minnow! Used to fill the fuel filter with ATF at oil change and it seemed to extend injector life as well as fuel mileage. Never could go with a quart or two in 150-200 gallons of fuel. Seemed like that was trying to fill the lake with a spoon. A gollon in 20-30 gal should make a big differance! Packer
  6. Speed, My '48 EH has only three. The good thing is you save on light bulbs and the hassel of changing them. Don't think there is a down side. Packer
  7. I really had a hard time with a Bollweevil - - - Tick ,maybe, in Wyoming!!! Would I know the people out here?? Green River or Rock Springs??? Packer

  9. In your part of the world 26 ft. flat beds should be easy to find. I think Nevada is/was a triple's state and should have a bunch of old flat beds around. Aluminum may be tough but they are out there! Check ATHS and the Truck paper - - - might find a prize!! I've rounded up an 'E' cab and fenders (no doors) but need to take another look at it before making the deal. Buy-the-by, if you hook a trailer with air brakes up to your 'juice" brakes, the air endorsement may come into play. I have it, and it was not a big deal. Just don't want to get hung out to dry at a highway stop!!! Packer

  11. Speed, We've all got some issues, (I'm old) but something to look at is an aluminum single axle trailer. I'm thinking that I, at one time, pulled a 40 ft. two axle flat bed that was steel, and the trailer (net) was 6,000 lbs. That would put a 20-26 ft. single axle aluminum at half (or less). A little polish and it would look sharp!!! Another thing to add to your list might be an air brake endoresment. Wyoming says if you got air brakes, you need to have that tacked on. Packer

  13. On the S/P switch thing here is a quick bit of info. You hook two 6 volt batteries togather to make 12 volts for lights, radio,(in a 'B' Mack? that's nuts! Can't here it anyway) and etc. The S/P switch hooks the two 12 volt systems to 24 volts for the 24 volt starter. You can pull the 24 volt starter out and replace it with a 12 VDC starter and get rid of the S/P switch. Packer
  14. Hey Guys, Got two questions/needs. Need a little info on an F605T I found. Looking for years that these things were made and any other quick pointers one might have on them. The other need is a copy or tracying of the Fruhauf name plate. I have not been able to find one and thought that if I had a pattern, I would cut one (or 3) out of steel or stainless and rivet them on. Any Help? Thanks, Packer

  16. Nope!!! Gotta put every thing over the input shaft. Clutch brake is first on - - -Last off, then remove the seal and install a new one. Packer

  19. Know some stuff about grease and - - - Graphite and moly greases are for metal (Fith wheel plates,fifth wheel slides, etc. )Lithium is more for roller bearings. Packer
  20. Anyone wants info on the "R" let me know. It is for sale but the price quoted was quite high ($5,000.00), but make your own deal! Owner said it ran when it was last parked - - - "9 or 10 years ago". Got more pictures but as you have all seen, I'm a PUTZ at trying to post pictures!!! The 4 Wheel Drive is at a ranch - - - I've tried to get some info but can't catch anyone home. (I'll keep trying) Packer

  23. The B61 is in Nebraska and I'm going to pick it over labor day weekend. The rest are in Colorado. They are stitting in 3 differant places, however. The 'R' and 'F' are in Sutherland.
