  1. Go the elecrical suppl house and get a 8-10 wire cable that is for aumotive (dare I say the word). pick the wire size you need somewhere between 8 and 12 maybe one that is 6 for gens and alt's. Start at the isolation board and run thr RED/YELLOW to te high beam or what ever. The RED YELLOW will always be high beam. Grab theGREEN/YELLOW and hook it to the low beam.RED and YELLOW for the turn signels BLACK FOR marker, Brown for tail ,and RED for stop. The whole system will have the same color wire going to the same light, no matter where you end. be it front, rear or trailer You'll need some of the old wire loom to make it look factory but three things are for sure: #1 It will be very inexpensive #2 it will ,if done right, be as good or better than Factory and will last as long #3 If there is a mistake, It's your error and you got to fix it!!! At this point you should know the wires, where they go, and how to repair it. #3 is the reason that one should wire his own truck. You put it there and you are the most qualfied to repair it. The bad is that you can't pass the buck nor snivvel, In my shop there is a $5.00 fine for whinning. Packer

  3. Pulled a B61 home last fall, never got it across a scale but SWAG says about 12,000. This is a 3 axle with camelback, 180hp 673, 18 speed Quad,Budd wheels and only 6 tires. My B421 is under 8 feet (96in), closer to 90in on the front axle (hub to hub) The whole thing will fit on an 8 foot trailer, with room to spare. Packer
  4. The tool is kinda spendy for one nut but they do work very well, come in eather course or fine thread, and hold tight. The only caution is to torque the bolt only to specs. Over-torque and the nut 'might' turn and cause the same type problem you have; that is, you can't get in behind to hold the d--n thing to remove the bolt. Packer

  6. A Cummins in a Chevy would just be too cool! When they came out with the Cummins in the late 88's I went looking for one to put in my 85 GMG 2500. when I found out how much it would cost, I backed away real fast! Dodge may not be the best looking truck but I sure like the drive train. Packer
  7. Last I heard, GMC was giving away a free oil catch pan with every engine. You know, stop, slide the catch pan under the truck, then pour the oil in a container and then go down the road!! Ford is now makeing heated tailgates as an option on there diesel pickups so that in the winter, you buddies don't get frostbite when they hand push you to the Ford Store to get it repaired - - -again!! Laffin I've got a Dodge diesel and am in love with it - - - 14mpg around town, 19- 20 on the highway ( at 2000 rpm). Love the 6 speed, love the motor - - - Sure wish it had a Chevy cab!!! (I can almost here the backlash now!!!) I drive what I drive cause I worked on a lot of cummins in my life and really dig 'um. Couldn't get a cummions in a Chev so took second best. If there were only one other manufactuer out there, we would not have anything to "Mine's better than your's" about and this forem would fall flat. The 'OTHER' would be Mack, of course! :-) Packer
  8. I'm a Cummins man myself. For putting in a pickup, such as under a 'B' model hood, the six just looks right! And there is lots of room without a lot of wrangling for room. The duramax had some problems at the start. Don't know if they got that worked out or not. Packer

  13. There might be a little "Showboating" there, but still that's pretty much how it's done. Back in the days of my youth, the triplex I started with was pretty much shifted 'UP' with one hand, and shifted 'DOWN' with two. Here in the west, anywhere you go, you have to cross a mountain or two. Most are in the 7-8,000 foot range. (As we speak, I'm about 50 miles from the Continental Divide) To down shift from 4th low to 3rd hi; Shift the Aux to netural, rev the engine to 2,100, move the main (with the right hand) into 3rd, and the left hand to HI. Now I know, you never put both sticks in netural!! But with a little practice, ( 205 hp,7,500 foot pass,80,000lbs gross, you get alot of practice) you wonder how you ever shifted one stick at a time! The reason they made two sticks is so you have one for each hand!! :-) Packer
  14. Just to add to the export end, the engines I work on are big, low rpm, flat and OHV Ingersol/Rand's. When we replace them, it is with 3600 series Cat's and turbines. These are about all that will meet the emission standards needed. The old engines are sold at scrap prices and shipped to South America. Emissions there are not a problem. Packer

  16. Got a late 40's-early 50's Fruehauf 30 foot single axle flat bed via 'b61fred' from Superdog a little while back. Have no clue what the paint # should be. Any help on what I'm looking for??? Thanks in advance, Packer

  19. I looked at this post a minuet and think that there is a number or two missing! Are those 11.00X24.5 rims? The (.5) on the end says that it is a tubeless tire and a standard size that one can get 'most anywhere. One might keep that in mind if putting a truck on the road (or carry a lot of spares)! I been looking at the 'New" low profile tyres (thats for Andy and Nigel) but am too old to change! Packer

  23. Back when I was a pup, the B63 I drove had a sleeper and the access was through the rear cab window. It had been enlarged (the window) a little but not by much. I went in and out with no hang-ups. Now I doubt I could get stood up on the jump seat!LOL By-the-by, where do you think the term 'Cab lizard' came from? Packer
