  2. JC whitney has the solid foam in different sizes. I used it for vent and doors before. the hollow core stuff is totally garbage in a B model
  3. went to the local paint glass and body supply store Larry. I cheaped out and only put the chrome beaded stuff on the top where people could see. put the cheap window channel in the channel in the panel itself. I used black weatherstrip adhesive.   4. that Franchi red R appears to be a mix and match of parts?? old style cab with short back, new style grab handle and roof lights, older style R600 emblem, 1979ish hood with the rear fender crease, 1980's style fuel tanks....

  6. we ordered a 4500. I meant when you think about a truck with 22.5's your usually talkin air brakes to and above 2600 gvw. granted there are some IH Penske trucks with juice brakes also with 22'5. to me I hate the 03-08 Kodiak 45-6500 series. the Duramax was a great engine in a pick up or one ton as long as people kept their fingers out of them. we have a 1 ton 05 wrecker at work with a Miiller body on it with almost 300,000 hard miles on it. that's the one the new 4500 is replacing. we have also had 5-6 of the 4500 old van cab series Kodiaks with flatbeds on them. they see a lot of abuse but it seems your always fixing something on them and the interior plastics and panels left a lot to be desired. that being said we have a few with 400,000 miles on them but god are they rattle traps. th last 'Real Kodiak' as I call them was our 2000 , 6500 with a little 3206 Cat and 7 speed spicer in it with the pickup style cab Detroit locker. that was a good truck. I think when GM went with the van style Isuzu cab it left a lot to be desired. glad they have went back to the pickup style cab
  7. 22.5 wheels usually mean air brakes and above 26000 g v w. we ordered a 19 about 7 months ago. its in this week. we ordered our own wrecker body s we will see what happens. personally we have 5-6 of the old style junk in my opinion 04-08 Kodiak style with the van style cab. hope this is better

  9. then the trail went cold. if we could get them for $600 a piece id probably buy 4. same with Bulldog embossed seats. when I talked to Barry at Macungie he said he needed a minimum order but then said he gets calls all the time for them. Tidewater use to sell the same seat for $295 20years ago. I told Barry if he could sell us seats for 600 a piece id buy 4-5 of them. guess I just don't get it. yes he does do good for us, just seems a few of these parts like Seats, Lund Visors , vent windows and chrome radiator shells need some attention
  10. start with a 3 5/8 spacer which was pretty standard on all B models and go from there. the bigger the spacer, the shorter the wedges is a good start. only Macks that ran a 4''spacer were the ones with true 24'' tires on it
  11. the thing that I cant stand is how anytime any truck spins, bein a brand new star or whatever, they use the same clip of the old General with Dayton wheels spinning. really??? and they never show them getting paid for all these pull up the hills and winch out. as someone whos in the business that is the real drama part. fighting with some foreign shitbag who doesn't want to pay or doesn't have a card or doesn't wanna call home base for a compcheck! or some foreigner cause they all do it, that wants a 'break' on the bill. when the bill comes out my rule is No negotiating, don't deal! and I don't care who it is ,how the hell do they make a boom and winch last by hooking on some loaded rig and snapping the cable and ripping someone up the hill? yea, try that a few times and youll rip the plannateries right out! a winch is made for the cable to be pulled out and to pull someone up the hill or out, not to hook up and snap the cable and use it as a chain
  12. pretty sure they came with the chassis mounted cooler instead of the driver side mounted motor cooler. 1982 R we had at work had the cheap 3 bar grille bolted to the charge air cooler
  13. pretty sure my 711 has a standard Mack water pump. I think they only come in long and short shafts just like Chevy's. I know I replaced it and pretty sure it was for a 237

  15. remember hearing this story many times, we don't live far from where this truck has sat for many year. sadly someone stole the gold scripted Mack taillight off this truck as I remember it had when it sat in Dick's yard. he passed this past year I think and his kids brought this truck to Balston. he has many many treasures in his yard that everytime I had stopped are NOT FOR SALE including many AC mack shovels and cranes, a brute of a DM and some early BX Macks

  17. those shells and fenders in the Mack pictures are pre 1959. back then you hung it as a section and adjusted as needed. i have always bolted fender, inner fender and inner headlight panel and outer as a whole and hung with the top two bolts as section. i always take a 3/8 fine thread bolt and cut the head off to hang the back of the fender on til you get everything secured. i have left the outer headlight panel off and just done inner with the assembly. either way you usually fight with the top headlight to fender bolt
  18. nothin personal, we all have our opinions, just never cared for that grille. over all a really nice truck, like other said, hard to find a tan dash R that doesn't have 200 holes bored in the dash panels
  19. love it myself, always wanted a clean tan dash truck, Detroit is nice and different, i like the Canadian spread but god i have always hated that grille, even in F models, dunno why an my own opinion
  20. agree, see how tight the old and new fit on the spindle. more top to bottom wobble than side to side is what id worry about. not tellin whats happened over the last 40 years or if someone installed a mismatched set to try to remedy a problem or a worn out spindle.

  22. pretty sure that truck use to belong to the Town of Galway or one of its employees. it hauled the old Oshkosh to the Balston show for years. it to was there this year by the state police set up
