  1. Mark, I have a picture of a 11 yd Rex concrete truck mount on special built 1962 Emeryville we had 15 of these built for Colonial Sand and Stone! The picture is on this site called "My first mixer" but I don't know how to transfer it over!!! I drove that truck for a couple a years, it was a good truck that pulled good and ran fast with a good old 238 Detroit an a 5+4 double over 89,000 with 11 yds 475 gal of water over head and 100 gal in the drumBULLHUSK

  13. WOW, trip-lease I have not heard that term used in years! When I was a kid my dad did work for a guy in Harrison NJ that my uncle was the disp. for (Spiegel Trucking) They did all of Hartz Mountain's trucking (Trans-Pet) 90% of the work went through a broker @ the Jersey Truck Stop by the name of Tip O'Neil and his daughter. Things got so B/Z back in the day that Izzy the owner bought a Dodge Van and put a guy with a desk and Type wrighter and a check book and did the lease's right at the W-House that they loaded from! But as a kid gust sittin there, I heard and saw things that will forever be branded in my memory (all good) heres a couple, the first time I saw a CB radio was back around 1965? in an O-O's truck with about 5 ant. whips on his tractor, saw an A-C purple engine in a International I think it was? saw my first V-12 in a CO Freightliner and the same guys brother had one with a V-8 turbo Cat that would not stay together! (had a 1693 put in by Cat after the third time) First saw an Automatic in a truck was a Monford Circus Wagon with a load going back west! Also for the first time saw a guy and his wife with a day cab Freightliner V8 71 350 hp Detroit witha big ass body on back witha hitchen an shower an gen set ! This was there home! WOW! but the best was I guess I was about 9 or 10 when this guy was cuttin up this big round pill (4 way cut) and I asked my uncle what kinda candy the guy had?? Thanks for the memories Mark! I'm commin up to the big 60 soon so It's nice to get the old brain stimulated once in a while! Ernie DS BULLHUSK

  18. We had some Head gasket prob's when they got older but not a bad engine in a city or small dump truck, they started with trouble when they started puttin em in big 25yd tandem garbage trucks and big dumps! and it wasn't the motors fault just to much for the motor! BULLHUSK
  19. When they forced us to bring 12,000 up to the front axle all the black top started to groove, sometimes on the NJTP you had to fight to get your truck outta the lane! All there base mix had to be redesigned for the single tire weight! Buy they know better now don't they???? BULLHUSK
  20. Boy this has gotta be pissin off the Volvo crew!! BULLHUSK
  21. Paul, I posted a shoot load a pictures of Colonial's older mixers on here some place? But so i've been told by the man himself Mr. Dave (Dave Pascerelli) the guy who had a hand in building that truck, they used a Diamond T or Federal cab and in the front they had there Italian fab. guys hand build the front rad. guard that said 'Colonial Special' across the front then they took the largest Horizontal mxer that Jager had to offer, cut it in half and added a section in the center to haul more concrete (I was told later on down the road Jager took them to court and they had to stop doing that). The rear tandems were wider then the front axle a lot wider! the first one had a small Cummins pony motor to run the mixer! I myself have been looking for this truck right after leaving the Astoria shop back in 1971!! I sometimes feel like Indiana Jones lookin for the lost Colonial Special! But any pictures I look at do not have that grill or the tandems, I just hope someone saved one! On one of my posts it says 'My first Mixer' and it's a picture of my 1962 International Emeryville Cab Over with a 11yd Rex horizontal mixer BULLHUSK
