  1. Sam Hornish is a businessman in N.W. Ohio and an ATHS member. Here are a few of the Mack's that he has setting at his restoration shop.
  2. Congratulations (next month) to Wendy! Mike, you're a lucky man to find such a good woman. On a side note, Sam Hornish might be interested in my IHC....
  3. 1970 IHC Fleetstar cab & chassis. Double Frame, 549 gas engine, 5 speed, 2 speed rearend w/Detroit Locker. Originally built as a recovery truck, dealer installed roof A/C, power steering, air brakes & air horn. Solid truck stored inside until 1 year ago. Please call 260-693-0092, Leave Message.
  4. Off the subject of your questions but the attached pic is of the tanker that I spent a year as engineer on. When this unit was built (1987) it was "THE" tanker in the area. 3,500 gal/1,500 GPM pump. 2 years prior to me coming onto the department an error was made by the operator & he "over-pumped" a mutual-aid pumper & damaged it. My question to you is: If you are going to replace 3 other trucks with this one, why not go to 1,500 gpm & just a touch more water? This unit is a 7 speed but an auto would have been much better IMO because so few on a typical F.D. regularly drive commercial trucks and that can be hard on a transmission & clutch. One thing about why so many mfg's don't offer Mack may be the truck & engine electronics may not be compatible with any electroincs that they offer (i.e. secondary throttle-up controls, pump controls, etc). Perhaps their electronics will work with Cummins & MB/Detroit, but not with Cat or Mack. Just a few thoughts from someone who has been away from the fire service for many years but encountered such problems in the past. T.
  5. There is a link above the picture to the story about the crash. Driver was 54 and lived nearby. Click on the link and you can read the whole story...
  6. About anything you want to know about the movie can be found here: http://www.stlouisdumptrucks.com/ConvoyMackTruck/index.html Dan is the man when it comes to "Convoy" knowledge & considering he owns two of the RD trucks & the surviving trailer I don't doubt what he says....
  7. Huh? What? Larry did you say something? My hearing isn't quite what it use to be.....
  8. I have two of those out in my barn complete with gaskets. Didn't know you were looking for one. But guess it doesn't matter because I'm not ready to sell mine yet Larry....
  9. http://www.limaohio.com/sections/article/gallery/?pic=2&id=83914&db=limanews I drove by this one about 3 hours after it happened today. Not sure when they recovered the truck. Had to cut the driver out.
  10. Converse, IN.... probably setting at Rick's Truck Service.
  11. Larry, Might not be a bad idea as I don't know if I will ever get back on my B project. Life just keeps getting in the way of it....
  12. If I ever get back to my B61 I already have had the gauge panel, glovebox, cigar tray cover, & door panels (big & small round) chrome plated. I also had the door window trim powder coated with a polished silver color as well as the heater box cover. Oh, and yes that is a new, never used zero miles Speedometer and a new, never used zero hours tachometer.
  13. I hope he didn't venture too close to Kansas City, MO. Rumor has it the Kansas City Nazi Party has the Gestapo looking for him because of his comments on this page....
  14. Tom, Through the years I ended up with two '78 T/A's a black one with an auto & a gold one with a 4 speed. Loved both of those cars! T.
  15. My 2000 3/4 Ton 4X4 is feeling a bit neglected lately. The new girlfriend has a Jag XJ8 & I have to say I like driving it a lot better than my truck. Not really a car guy but I'll suffer a little!
  16. 1st vehicle I drove was a Mack Cruiseliner with a V8 & 5 Speed when I was 14. summer & weekend job was washing trucks and one afternoon when I walked into Chuck's office to let him know I had finished another truck and was ready to have someone pull it out and bring in the next he decided "if you're gonna wash them, your gonna drive them!" So he put me in the drivers seat, closed the door and climbed up the outside and told me what to do and to NOT knock him off the truck! That was my driving lesson...
  17. nearly traded the '69 LeMans for a '69 GTO 400/4 speed. Should have done it but still wouldn't have the car today.... Pictures of before & after of the Nova, can seen the very front corner of the LeMans in the one pic.
  18. 1st car was a '69 LeMans with a '68 grille (liked the 68 much better than the 69) & '67 GTO wheels. Bought it when I was 15, 2nd car was a '70 Nova. After building the Nova, I got into 4X4's and bought a '77 GMC Jimmy then sold the Nova and started p*ssing away all my money! T.
  19. I have a place that I could use that twice a year and I could use it at my place once a year, just not very cost effective....
  20. Well Rob, Expect to be sued for damages to her car as had you not been driving so close in front of her the diesel would not have gotten on her vehicle forcing her to drive into your establishment and encountering a much misplaced tree. Lord knows it's not her fault that she incurred all that damage to her vehicle.....
  21. Seems to be a theme of yours Mike. I was gonna ask, "but did you get pizza" Load a truck, go eat pizza.....
  22. Not at all trucking related, but I just feel the need to mention this to eveyone I know. Without going into the long story with all the details, my friend Kenny is a Columbia City, IN police officer & a Thorn Creek Twp firefighter and his wife, Julie is a Whitley County Sheriff Department dispatcher. A nightmare came true for them Thursday night at approx 11pm. Julie took a 911 call of a house fire.... from their 15 year old son. Yes their house was on fire, Kenny was 1st on scene and had to fight a fire in his own home after Julie took the 911 call of their own home on fire. Kenny has stressed. Check your smoke detectors, they save lives. Have a family emergency plan, They do and it got both of their sons out alive and unharmed. They did loose one of their 3 cats in the fire. I want to stress, check each of your outlets and all of your power strips. Kenny believes that the fire started in a powerstrip next to their bed. This is the power strip that had his scanner, police radio charger, police radio battery charger & fire radio plugged into. The new 800 radios that the department has gone to has a duel battery system and he believe that this was enough to overheat the power strip. T.
  23. http://www.millerind.com/ Miller makes the majority of heavy recovery units built for use in the U.S. I personally like the Centruy line of heavy recovery units. They market Holmes, Vulcan, Chevron, Century, Challenger, Champion, Eagle, Bonafice & I believe a few others. As far as I know, as I have not been as involved in recent years as I use to be in Towing & Recovery AATAC, Jerr-Dan & NRC are still around as well as a few others. I have heard a rumor that Miller has also bought out Bill Bottoms, who owns(ed) B & B but have not seen it in print. Below is the 1995 Mack CH613/Century 5030 that I use to run.
