  1. Not quite 45 years ago but this is from 35years ago my 49 Willy’s pickup is still my favorite repowered with a 327 and 4 speed it was a lot of fun
  2. Buncombe county and Asheville have 14,000 applicants and FEMA has dispersed over 12 million dollars to residents, statewide there has been over 25,000 applications to FEMA and 27 million dollars distributed
  3. I have worked on 3 Kenworths with consecutive serial numbers from 1964 they came out of the factory with fiberglass hoods and I have seen some from 1963 as well pretty sure they were factory fiberglass also, nice work Bob its getting there
  4. It was common in the 70's and 80's in Washinton state Idaho and Canada to find trucks with an extra gearbox generally a 3 or 4 speed auxillary added for working in the mountains usually made by Brownlipe before Spicer took over they were called a Brownie by the truck drivers
  5. My favorite vintage plate could be Italian or maybe Swedish but I think Italian I love it it was everywhere in the late seventies early eighties I have not seen one in a long time found this one at a friend’s shop a couple months ago perfect for an Italian Mack
  6. I can not remember the exact location of the brake light switch for a DM of that year but its common for the spring to break inside of these little switches allowing the contact points to stick together same thing with the low air pressure switch
  7. The 750 on the right probably had the bevel square seal because it has the flat top lid that seal is obsolete but a little silicone is fine to reseal and the later square seal works as well
  8. The gasket seal for the luberfiner 750 should be square not round like an o ring fleetguard number is 0101853s
  9. Saw this earlier this week not sure if it’s from coal country but I like the tri drive setup Hendrickson walking beams with the third drive axle cantilevered off of the second drive axle
  10. There was a thread on here from a couple of years ago titled engine size in 65 Mack B53 and he posted some nice pictures proof that the tip turbine will fit under the hood, I do know the front crossmember/engine mount is different also another issue is if you have a single plate clutch with the short bell housing you would want to change to a two plate clutch with a little stronger transmission to handle the higher torque rating and you would have to redrill the rear mounts through the frame relocating them farther to the rear
  11. I have repaired and replaced numerous aluminum frames most were KW and Peterbilt used as log trucks the extreme rough roads would brake the rails vertically near the cab the Mack rails I have only seen small horizontal cracks around the rear suspension other than scale or delaminating as some call the rot where it contacts the steel if its always been on the pavement its probably not a concern easy to check with a good light
  12. Also it would be a good idea to pull the wheel off and measure the splined shaft older columns were 1 1/8” splines newer shaft splines dropped to 1” not sure about 2016
  13. I am lucky to have found part of this B 755 that ran the Al-Can back in the day just parts now but it must’ve been a rough trip running that route

This was built at a local shop and we are grateful for it they built an improved version and that’s how we got this rear steer lowboy sure makes it easier to get around when you have miles of tight turns and alot of switchbacks the driver at the back will suffer dusty conditions but
  15. I have not seen 44 rears set up with soft bushings before but I can see it would not be to bad with a good set of polyurethane bushings if your not loading heavy regularly and maxing out the trunion shaft is the same diameter for the 38 and 44 but the axle housings can be heavier for the 44,000 check the rear right side of the housing for number code stamp for the axle housing rating

  17. Try John Chalmers 717-334-8709 Cashtown PA. he is in your area is super knowledgeable and has a lot of hard to find parts he should know of anything in existence and if you need anything else from a 711 I have a parts engine for spares
  18. The 864 was finished in 1972 and the ET 1000 did not come out until 1978 so a look at the numbers is important but it all looks good

Helping a friend this weekend put the rear end back in a good ford A model sure is nice to see how all of this is engineered it’s amazing what worked a hundred years ago and it still works great
  20. Just forward of the starter on the edge of the block above the oil pan is where the identification numbers are stamped I think cab over engines were stamped at the right rear
  21. It doesn't look bad so I would say they should be able to cut it realign and weld it back up sometimes the housing will get twisted bad enough that it becomes very difficult to get the differential in and out especially back in just another thing to check before repair or replace decision is made.
  22. It looks like the Spindle is bent where it is attached to the axle housing I have seen them bent before the older ductile iron housings had a replaceable spindle press fit with a retaining bolt on the back of the housing but all of the others are welded it can be repaired or replace the housing.
  23. Just got a message from the local ATHS that the truck show in Cherokee tomorrow just got moved to 1501 Acquoni Road Cherokee for what ever reason
  24. Thanks for the truck driver point of view on these things some of us who have never driven do not know these interesting things about trucking if you work on the sidelines its hard to imagine how it all works as a mechanic its not always easy to figure out the drivers point of view
