  1. G'day David Thanks mate. That pumper in FL is definitely a S75 going by the data plate and the radiator shell. Jeff L confirmed that as well when he spoke to the seller. Cheers Andy Mike What a bloody unreal pic! Feel free to fire the details of your E's to me whenever you get the chance. Lee H. has already sent me the details of his EH. I need to speak to Tom Gannaway to ask if I can use the format that he uses for the B registry. I will use that format as it is familiar, unless anyone has any suggestions. Cheers Andy
  2. Welcome mate. You're in the right place if you like Macks. Cheers Andy
  3. Hi David I just sent you an email. Sounds like getting a fairly complete truck is the best way to go so there's less dependence on parts supplies. Did you see the pics that Bob Gilbreath posted of his EQ tractor? That's a sweet truck. Hope I can find one at least in that condition. I agree with you on the look of the E. One of the best lookers around. The E was one of the first trucks that knocked me over with good looks when I first got into old bangers. Cheers Andy
  4. Hi guys My wife and I are looking for an E model as our next truck. They're not that common in Australia and we'll have to find it on the other side of the country but we're keen anyway. Am building a file on E models which consists of as many pics as I can find, diagrams, books etc etc. If anyone has any pics of E wrecks, restored Es or whatever, I would be most grateful if you could please pm me or email me. If you own one or have restored or driven one in the past I welcome your comments on the joys and/or pitfalls of doing so. If you have an E in your gallery, please let me know so I can make a copy of it for my file. Have already raided Hank's Truck Pictures but any leads to other net sources would also be much appreciated. I am also thinking of setting up an E registry along the lines of the famous B registry. Is that something you guys would be keen to see? We recently sold our B to a good home but, since Jodi and I are Mack people, we can't think of not having one to look after! Once you go , there's no going back! Cheers for now Andy
  5. That's a cool site Barry. Had forgotten that I spotted a B being used by the Germans last time I saw The Battle of Britian. Had a bit of a chuckle to myself about it! Cheers Andy
  6. Okay, so I know this is a subject that has been run over several times over the years but I thought I might start it up again to see if anyone can remember new stuff or if new members have anything to add. Basically, if you have seen a Mack featured in a movie or TV, no matter how insignificantly, list it here. Convoy - obviously Rocky - opening scenes of Stallone running has a B model backing out of picture in the background Cars - "Mack", Lightning McQueen's Superlliner transporter Episode of Cold Case features an L model fire truck - vague I know The Motorcycle Diaries - L model fire truck in one of the village scenes Bad Boys II - Mack car transporter stolen by bad guys and used in freeway car chase Mad Max II Paperback Hero - Hugh Jackman driving a road train Before Night Falls - footage of L models during the Cuban revolution Hoffa - haven't seen it but an old Wheels of Time had a feature on ACs being used in it That's about me tapped out! Cheers Andy
  7. Good luck, mate. Keep us up to date with how you go. Looking forward to some pics of her in your driveway! Cheers Andy
  8. Pat I've said it before but that is by far the coolest resto story I have ever heard. Great stuff. Cheers Andy
  9. G'day mate Have you sold this truck yet? Please don't tell me oyu've scrapped it. I know someone in Florida who might be interested. Cheers Andy
  10. Bloody unreal, Firemack. I have yet to see a B fire truck in the flesh but hope to when I'm in Melbourne at Xmas. Thanks for posting the pics. Cheers Andy
  11. Hi guys A mate and me are looking at getting the blue L model in my gallery if it's available for the right price. Is there anyone out there who has one or knows someone who does? Would like to find out more about them, how popular they were etc. We don't have a chassis number yet but should have soon to send off to the Mack Museum. Hope everyone is groovy. Cheers Andy
  12. Yep, flat spots would be my biggest complaint with bias tyres that have been sitting for a bit. Cheers Andy
  13. I agree with John who I think answered my exact same question a couple of years ago! I ended up running with new bias on the steer and the radials the truck came with (I did first regroove) on the rear. The bias on the steer was for ease of steering and better sidewall. I was told, maybe by John but possibly by someone else. that if you get sidewall damage on a radial, you might as well get rid of it which is another reason why I went bias on the steer. Never damaged them though! Cheers Andy
  14. When I worked on the mines we used to have a Shell Mack triple turn up about once a week to unload. I used to walk passed it on my way from my truck to the crib hut. We also had the AB combos hauling ore from our ROM pad to the mill. They were totally cool and all tri-drives. I'm pretty used to doubles, triples etc but I still love seeing them. We live in the eastern half of Perth, Western Australila and we have a ring road nearby and a couple of transport depots. Triples are not allowed south of Wubin (that's about 3 hours north) and doubles only run from near us if they're heading north. Anything heading east has to pick up its second trailer at Northam (about an hour east). I'll try to get some shots of road trains in my travels if anyone's interested. Cheers Andy
  15. Tom Congrats on the 2nd school bus, very cool. I just sold my B (B61T35092). It was sad to see her go but she's gone to a good home and I will own another one soon, just gotta get a few other projects done first. She's gone to a guy who works for Gavin Spence in Melbourne. I'll get to see her regularly when I'm over there so am looking forward to that. On another note, Mike Nixon has his integral sleeper B81 for sale. Would love to pick her up but haven't got the $ as usual. Trying to hunt out a B633 over here, a sister truck to Dallas Fabian's beastie. It's all go down here! Cheers Andy
  16. The hot weather you guys are having is standard for us during the summer. Having said that, we don't have the extreme winters that you do so I reckon we would struggle with ice and snow, although we do regularly get to freezing during the winter, nothing like your winters though. Been a warm winter so far, only really started getting good rain a couple of weeks ago. We're better set up housing wise etc for hot weather but not for harsh winters whereas you guys seem to be around the other way, within reason of course. Summer down here is magic. Will get up to high 30s, low 40s celsius by early afternoon then the sea breeze comes in and feels great! Come and holiday in Western Australia! I'll show ya some old trucks too! Cheers Andy
  17. Hi mate Does it have a 711? They were pretty prone to cracking. Cheers Andy
  18. Thad Always have a back up plan. Something you can fall back on if what you're chasing doesn't turn out to be your dream job. Perhaps cut back on your hours at the family business initially while you try your hand at something new but don't stop working with your family until you are established in something you enjoy. Don't burn your bridges. If you want to look into getting trucking experience, accept the fact you won't be in charge of a nice nine axle truck/lowboy combination from day one. That's probably stating the obvious. Approach your local operators and ask if they need truck washers, shop floor sweepers, local delivery drivers etc. I know you'd prefer not to go into long distance but perhaps working in a haulers yard spotting trailers, washing trucks, keeping things tidy will help you get a good reputation. Whatever you do, try to make sure you're having fun! It makes things so much easier. Cheers Andy
  19. Amazing that the seller didn't want to sell the truck to his only bidder even though you didn't make the reserve price. Be a sad story if she was scrapped. Cheers Andy
  20. Used to drive off-highway dump trucks but am stuck in an office/classroom now. Only get to play trucks now Cheers Andy
  21. Still struggling along with Armstrong steering so I can't help but just thought I'd say that's a bloody nice B you got there, mate! Hope she's steering happily soon. Cheers Andy
