  1. Only kidding lol early morning is the best part of the show, up early to watch and listen to the trucks roll in.
  2. Not too early... have some respect for those of us who may have hangovers.
  3. Nice truck, always admired the Willys. Only thing better would be a cabover FC, but mine is a biased opinion lol
  4. With leasing so popular ( and also repossessions) you can get a 2 or 3 year old truck for half the price of new, and still like new condition. Let someone else take the hit of depreciation, and the ISB will go forever anyway.
  5. I just read another thread on here about a bare-bones hot rod Mustang GT selling like hotcakes for under $40,000. The same concept could be applied to a truck. Offer a base model with not a lot of technology and flash, at a lower price point. Lots of customers still interested in a basic truck without all the electronics and accessories that drives up the price.
  6. Maybe some of us need to change it up and come out your way one year?!?
  7. Not one of Mack's better ideas, strapping an aluminum step to a steel tank.
  8. I have the same problem, Ken. I ended up buying a complete parts truck, but got a good air tank. I did order one from Mack according to the serial number, turned out to be wrong tank. My old tank is too far gone, but was patch welded once. Maybe an option for you? Gregg
  9. That's the key...IF you can fit the loads into the time frame. I run a lot of short trips under 200 miles, in major cities, with a lot of loading/unloading time. Too many variables to push the limit. Most days I will have to cut it short rather than try for the late delivery or an extra preload. I figure on losing 1-2 loads per week as a result. Also on Friday nights, I don't plan on staying in a motel 45 or 60 minutes from home. You can bet I'm going to be home after 4 nights away.
  10. Thanks for the clarification. Truck in question is advertised as 1951.
  11. Only if Hillary becomes president will this type of idiocy continue. Trump will toss treaties like this starting January 21st and put U.S. interests first again. The Iran nuke deal will be tossed as well, since they don't honor the agreement anyway, and it has come to light that we were misled by the state department and the media. Now, if only our Republicans in Congress would grow a spine we could turn this ship around.
  12. Somebody correct me, but I believe the first H was 1953, and a bit taller.
  13. I was told by my trainee last year the center lane of a three lane highway was the safest place to be. He learned that from his trainer at C.R. England. 55mph down the center lane of I-95 in Maryland? Thankfully, due to this and other bad habits, he didn't continue his career at Brothers Auto Transport.
  14. Nice boss to work for... notice how he threw the driver under the bus..." nothing wrong with my truck, there were no skid marks, the driver never tried to stop!" Nice guy. But then again, when you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
  15. My company will not broker any freight to a car hauler with electric brakes on the trailer. The " Billy-Bob" built trailers for car hauling are notoriously top-heavy, overloaded for the tow vehicle, usually poorly maintained, and less than professionally operated.
  16. HMM looks good, my only concern would be right side visibility.
  17. Nice! A carnival game just in time for the holiday!
  18. And this is why the establishment politicians and the media that enables them are afraid of Donald Trump. He will completely upset their status quo. Why would Bill Kristol hint at a 3rd party candidate?!? Does he remember Ross Perot? The establishment would rather see Hillary Clinton be president, because it would preserve their way of life, American people be damned. Not to say Donald Trump is the perfect candidate, but it's time to shake up the system and shine some sunlight in the dark corners.
  19. By the way even if European drivers make more than we do, I would say they pay a lot more taxes as well, living in a socialist society. If that works for you, move to Europe. The United States was founded on different principles, and there's a lot of people in this country that are sick and tired of the Socialist agenda attempting to make the United States more like Europe. In reality, most Americans are libertarian, they're just not educated well enough to realize it. Or better yet, go down to Venezuela and see how that socialism works for you.
  20. Because of the reasons you have already mentioned in previous posts. The large truck load companies would rather have a constant churn of inexperienced drivers, than to pay a good experienced driver what he is worth. Maybe E-LOGS will level the playing field, and drivers will someday be compensated for ALL of their time. But I don't expect to see it in the remainder of my career. I questioned my boss about how I will be compensated for the one or two loads I lose every week with E-LOGS, and his answer is you can work 6 days a week instead of 5 to make up for it!?! Work an extra day to make the same money? I don't think so. I don't want to work around the clock, but in reality with E-LOGS, my day will be down to 11 or 12 hours instead of 13 or 14. You just can't take chances anymore especially with a day cab. Maybe the newbies will put up with that kind of abuse but I'm too old for that.
  21. I do agree with some of what you're saying, but with E-LOGS it's hard to maximize your time with a day cab, unless you're doing line haul truckload same every day. I haul cars and there are too many variables and then spend the last 30-60 minutes of the day getting to a hotel. Sleeper cab allows greater flexibility and time management. I am about to step away from this good paying steady company job to once again be an owner-operator, because I will lose money with E-LOGS. I also feel I am more capable of making the decisions that affect MY life, rather than the white shirt bean counters and technology that has taken over the trucking industry. Have at it, friends, I'm going back to old school.
  22. Your theories contradict themselves. You say we're stuck with less productive equipment, but go on to say driver skills are lacking?!? So you want bigger, heavier trucks when our current "drivers" can't handle a 53' trailer. Trucking companies need to invest in comprehensive driver training (i.e. apprenticeship programs) and driver retention, not larger trucks. Wages are comparatively less now than 40 years ago, with 40' trailers and 73,280 GVW. Every time the trailers get bigger, the promises of increased driver pay never materialized.
  23. I am proud to say my 15 year old daughter appreciates and enjoys a lot of the same music as me, 60's and 70's rock and country. Her knowledge of music history amazes me. Gives me hope for future generations LOL.
  24. Ditto on all the comments here, Mike. Sucks to see the truck in that condition. No matter how nice you keep your stuff, or how careful you are out on the road, you can't control the actions of others around you. My CX was in about the same condition about 4 years ago, and about the same time, my wife of 20 years decided she don't want to be married to a trucker any more. I know how you feel with shit stacked high against you, don't seem worth fighting anymore, but you'll get through as I am trying to do. Got a new wife who likes trucks, and getting my MH ready for the road is my therapy. When you're at the bottom, there's no way to go but back up again. I'll be back on top of my game again, and I'll bet you will be too. Best wishes to you and your family it will turn around. Gregg
