  1. A 1972 R model doesn't have indicator lights on the dashboard for turn signals. .
  2. Grab it Rob! Don't let it get away! I had a mechanical E7 400 and T2130 13 speed in an RB dump truck and it was an animal! It would pull away from 4&1/4 Cats like they were up on jack stands. 728 C.I.D. vs 672 C.I.D.of the E6. Other than the air to air out front, I don't think it would be a tough swap, Block is pretty much the same dimensions as an E6. .
  3. That sounds to me like it's one of those piston type chambers that were popular in the B model days. It is about the same external dimensions and appearance as a rotochamber but instead of the circle of studs & nuts on the end plate circling the pushrod, the piston type has a flat endplate and screws (usually philips head) around the circumference of the can which hold the endplate to the can. I have indeed seen those type of chambers leak at low application pressures and then "seal up" if the brake pedal is slammed to the floor, however if it's not working perfectly right, fix it. Your life or somebody elses could depend on it. Another thing I've seen happen on those horizontally mounted piston type chambers is where the suspension gets sloppy and the rears move sideways in a turn, the chamber can strike the frame and get dented slightly causing the rubber seal on the piston to not seal perfectly against the inside of the can due due the dent.
  4. Actually, the CDL requirements are based on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) in the case of straight trucks, or the Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) in the case of a semi tractor, not on the weight of an unloaded truck or tractor. From here: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/cdl/cdl.htm However, in some states if the truck is not being used commercially and is registered wirh collector or antique type plates a CDL may not be required. .
  5. Wow! Other than the rust spreading and cracking of the frame just underneath the hoist frame and that broken out section of the R fender that truck is in real nice restorable condition. Nice set of new virgin Dunlops on the drives too. .
  6. Somebody in the past probably put some silicone gasket maker (blue shit) on the mating parts where the horn button twists onto the wheel, to keep the horn button from vibrating or coming loose. I'm sure it served it's purpose, but now you're paying the price!
  7. Sounds like a TRTXL1070B. Use 85W90 gear lube, and fill it until the lube is even with the filler plug hole. .
  8. Is there a hanger bearing on the driveshaft? If so, is it in good shape? .
  9. That relay on the firewall would be the starter relay. It receives it's "signal" when the key switch is twisted all the way to the start position,at that point the starter relay relays current to the large solenoid on the starter, thereby activating the starter. The accessory relay (the one that "clunks" when you turn the key to the "run" position) is under the dash. .
  10. Uh Oh!!!!!!!!! Momma's gonna be pissed again!!!!!!!!!! .
  11. Tom, you're gonna get Rob all excited with that top pic of the B67 hooked on that gooseneck trailer. .
  12. Mike, if you look just below where the top hose connects to the water manifold, there will be 3 bolts that hold the thermostat housing and the pipe that connects to the upper hose to the water manifold if it has a thermostat. If the top pipe is one piece with the water manifold, then it does not have a thermostat. I've seen B models with both types. .
  13. I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here, and I'm sure you guys knew better than to do this, but: Is there a chance that when you were welding that the ground clamp was put somewhere that it allowed current to flow through the wheel bearings or diff bearings? That could cause rollers and races to be welded together or at the very least severely pitted which would cause some bad noises. Just a thought, as it seems you have already addressed the usual causes. Also, measure all those new 11R22.5 recaps and make sure they are installed as described in my earlier post. .
  14. Shutterstat temp should be higher than thermostat temp. No sense having the shutters open when there is no water flow through the radiator.
  15. Speaking of "backing off a quarter"....... Back when I was in school I remember a kid in my class explaining the "proper" way to adjust rocker arms on a small block chevy: "With the engine idling, tighten the adjusting nut down until you hear the valve hit the piston, then back off a quarter turn". I'm glad he never worked on anything of mine!
  16. Lots of 'em in here: http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?app=gallery Along with just about every other model that Mack has ever built .
  17. That would definitely put the kibosh to a Mack power divider in short order if it had lo pro on one drive axle and standard 11R22.5 on the other drive axle. .
  18. In stock form, the mechanical E7 topped out at 400 HP. I had a 91 RB688s dump truck with a mechanical E7 400, and it would pull away from a 425 Cat equipped truck like it was standing still. (Both trucks comparably loaded). .
  19. Congrats on your new job! What kind of work is it, if I may ask? .
  20. A 10 foot cheater pipe with a 190 lb. guy hanging on the very end of it would give 1900 ft. lbs. That would work very well for torquing things in a vertical plane such as wheel lugs or bolts in the side of a frame, but wouldn't work for fasteners which are in a horizontal plane, such as spring U bolts. .
