  1. fjh, did you ever notice that those transmissions (and the 6 speeds too) had a tendency of knocking a tooth off one of the reverse idlers if the driver was rough and had a habit of hitting reverse while the truck was still rolling? I've seen that quite a few times over the years. .
  2. For the "classic" Mack green, the PPG Paint # is 40496. That's this color: .
  3. The thing that made it a bitch on my RB was that the hoist frame and hyd tank for the dump box was in the way, so most of the job had to be done from underneath. Like you said, I used a hydraulic jack and a 4x4 of rhe proper length to jack up the cab. .
  4. Here's where we get them: http://www.takeittoaccurate.com/4SuspensionWarehouse.htm .
  5. That's more than likely a factory air ride cab setup, although I can't say that for sure without actually seeing it. The 1991 RB that I had was equipped with a setup just like what you describe. I had to change bags on that one a couple times and it ain't really a fun job. Regarding stress on the front cab mounts, the R models with air ride cab use front cab mounts that are able to "rotate" as the rear of the cab moves on the air bags, so there is no issue with the front mounts.
  6. He's puttin' that one in the cab. He's gonna use it for a pee jug.
  7. No. I've driven 1966 B models (last year they were made) and those didn't have seat belts either. 1967 DM's that I've driven had lap belts, I never saw shoulder belts in a Mack until the late 80's. .
  8. More snow on the way. WTF!

  9. A lot of stuff on those machines is the same as a 175B loader, not sure if the sprockets would be the same, since the tracks are different than a 175. .
  10. If it's a repo then make sure to really check it over thoroughly, check the tie rod ends, drag link ends, steering axle kingpins, U joints etc. for unusual looseness, because chances are if the previous owner didn't have enough money to make the payments, they probably didn't have enough money for grease jobs & maintenance either. It wouldn't be a bad idea to sample the engine oil, trans & diff lubes and have them analyzed too. .
  11. Try going over to the Redpower site and ask "rocko59" He'll have your answers. http://www.redpowermagazine.com/forums/index.php?showforum=9 .
  12. A 15B with the square corner grille like that would be mid 60's vintage. Late 60's they went to the rounded grille that looked more like a Caterpillar. .
  13. What's the point? In addition to the initial expense and labor of the changeover you'll just be trading occasional painting for frequent polishing. Aluminum wheels that are not kept polished will quickly look terrible, whereas spoke wheels with a good paint job will look good for years with an occasional washing. .
  14. Evidently his diff has the cams & peanuts instead of spider gears as a center (side to side)differential. Mack built some diffs that way as a sort of "limited slip" feature.
  15. I'd recommend keeping it all Mack. If you want more power, just put a 237 in there. .
  16. That's exactly what I did on the CH tractor that I made into a dump truck, the original plastic bumper hung down too low for off road work. .
  17. Try PAI. http://www.paiindustries.com/company/about.php .
  18. Actually, that smoke is a good sign. It means that your 3208 is actually running! .
  19. Yes, if the truck is on 11R22.5 rubber. I had a couple DM690S dump trucks with that combination and they had plenty of reduction. .
  20. Speaking of oil filters, I've had a bad experience with a NAPA filter. Put one on my old Plymouth minivan, and evidently the check valve in the filter was inoperative or missing. Every time I started the engine, it would be without oil pressure for at least 5 seconds, while knocking from lack of lube. Took off that POS NAPA filter and went back to the Fram that I always used the rest of the time I've owned the vehicle, and end of problem. I usually ran Mack filters on all my Macks when I was in business, unless I needed a filter quick, then I'd just run to town and grab a generic filter to get by. Where I work now, we run CAT filters on all the equipment and Cat truck motors, Fleetguard on the Cummins & IH DT466 motors, and Hastings filters on the small stuff. . .
  21. 2 stick 6 speed TRXL1071 with deep reduction was commonly referred to as "low hole". .
  22. Blasphemous Posting! 5,000 post penalty!
  23. Rob, I was just thinking: Instead of the concave B67 cab, maybe you need a "convex" cab. .
