  6. OPEC knows our cost of drilling is quite costly compared to OPEC'S. With fracking and other new methods the USA is becoming a major player and could surpass other countries in the export of oil. OPEC doesn't want that and they do not what us to build the Keystone pipeline and other projects. That's why OPEC is keeping production levels high and driving down prices. If prices become to low it is not feasible to drill and service the rigs. It might be good for elderly people on fixed incomes that fuel prices are this low but it will hurt us in the long run.
  7. Changing from 22.5 to 24.5 nothing wrong with that. You can mix aluminum with steel on the inside. Its proper to put the material between the aluminum and steel for corrosion purpose but you probably wont own the truck when they weld together.
  8. How much for the trailer?? How far is the kingpin from the front of trailer?? Is the kingpin set up for single or tandems on the tractor??

  11. When rebuilding or replacing whos responsible for this screw up. The customer usually doesnt know what ratio it is. The shop needs to check the gearing. Here is a formula to make sure. Count the teeth on the ring gear and pinnion. Also count the teeth on the bull gear and heli-cross shaft gear. E.G. ring gear has 17 teeth, pinnion has 16 teeth. The bull gear has 55 teeth and heli-cross shaft has 16 teeth. Divide the ring gear into the pinnion. 17 divided by 16=1.0625. Next divide bullgear into the heli-cross. 55 divided by 16=3.4375. The last step is to mulitply the two numbers. 1.0625 x 3.4375=3.65. Thats the final drive ratio of the carrier.

  13. The trouble is mainly the driver forgets to pre select and overtime the sychros will burn up. Stiff shifting is caused by the 3 countershaft on a Mack vs two on competition. If you are mainly on the road I would give a hard look at the M Drive with the performance shift pad. A F1 transmission in a truck chassis. We have had no trouble as of yet.
  14. When comparing swapping transmission keep in mind an old Mack five or six speed is a 1 to 1 final ratio in top gear. Most 13 speeds have a faster final gearing(overdrive). Also one usually has to cut or lengthen the driveshaft due to transmissions having different lengths. Bell housing need to be correct also. Here is a formula to compare speed. tire factor x rear axle ratio x final gearing divided into rpms. Tall 24.5 rubber tire factor is 7.93. Tall 22.5 rubber tire factor is 8.32. Lets say you have tall 24.5 rubber a Mack 13 speed and 4.17 ratio. 7.93 x 4.17 x .71=23.48. Lets assume top rpms is 2100. Divide 2100 by 23.48=89.4 mph. If your speedo head is mechanical it can read 5 mph faster than you are actually going. Also worn tires will decrease your speed due to rolling height.
