Just purchased a 57 b61t. Has a painted grill shell and would like to get chromed or purchase a chrome. Does anyone know who does chroming on something like this?

I have a 1978 Mack F model cabover, tandem dump for sale. It came from factory with a 290 Cummins big cam and a 13 speed Eaton trans. The truck has 160,000 original miles. I do know the history on the truck, I am the 3rd owner. The Mack runs good and is currently inspected and registered in PA. The only thing I would do if going to work it, is put in a new clutch brake. The dump body is a Godwin, not very old and in good condition. I was watching it and then sent a message inquiring if the seller would sell just the tractor. He gave me a price on the tractor, but then I noticed the hours on it. I drive a company truck now and run within a 100 mile radius. It's an 07 with close to 400,000 miles and about 11,000 hours on it. That's why I was looking at the mileage and hours on this Mack. 30,000 hours with only 500.000 miles tells me there's a lot of idle time on the engine or it's been driven around under 25 mph all it's life. Just joking, but to answer your question, I'm not interested in the truck anymore. I think it might be close to rebuild time and I don't want to invest what he's asking and hope it doesn't have to be rebuilt on top of that. If memory serves me correct, the description states he did some engine work, but he wasn't specific on what was done.

appledog, I just posted a similar post and then found yours. I think we are looking at the same truck, if is currently listed on ebay. Take notice of the hours. It seems high for that mileage. I, like you, am not real familiar with the newer motors and really never really looked at the mileage/hours ratios. If i'm correct in some topics I've read, those hours may push up the equation of mileage to closer to a million of normal driving.

Looking for some help on the E7 427 Mack Engine. I'm looking at buying a 98 Mack CH613 E7 with a 427 engine. The seller advertises is at 500 hp. I'm familiar with the older Mack engines like the 300's and 350's but the newer ones started to escape me. Guess I'm getting old. What bothers me about this truck is the mileage and hours comparison. It has about 500,000 miles with over 30,000 hours. It is setup with a wet line so I'm guessing it has a lot of idle time on it. I drive a company truck now with only 12,000 hours with 400,000 miles. Can anyone tell me about the engine and what they think of the mileage and hour ratio?

Was wondering if any Mack gurus can help me out. I'm looking at a 70's Mack with a 300 engine. Thinking of buying it. Problem is it had a 5 speed and the current owner swapped it out for a 13 speed. Seems to me he defeated the purpose. He said he likes shifting. What I'm concerned about is if the 13 speed will work well with that engine since the hp and tq range was compatible with the 5 speed. I drove 5 speed 300's and 350's with no problems. Can anyone enlighten me if this was a good idea or not.

While reading some posts, there were a couple references to being able to obtain information on older Macks. I have a 78 F series that came with a 290 Cummins, 13 speed Eaton and Neway rear suspension. I would like to identify what other parts are Mack or if other components were put in from the factory. The local dealer frowns when I go in for parts since they have to do a little work to look them up. Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can obtain this information. I read somewhere there is a contact person or two that can send all the information on older macks. If anyone knows, please tell me how I can get in touch with them. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks guys. The dog was a working truck up until a couple years ago. Going to restore and want to make some changes to it. First thing is I want hear the stack without that whine from the fan. Gets real annoying at higher rpm's.

I think this truck and a similar one from the same seller is on ebay now.

Any mechanics out there familiar with this set up? I understand it was a popular combination years ago. I have a 78 Mack F series with this combination. Question I have, is that the engine has a regular fan setup. I was wondering if it is possible to change it to a clutch fan. Tired of hearing the manual fan whining all the time and need all the horsepower i can get out of it.
