  1. I'm interpreting growing hostility toward fleet maintenance departments by what is coming from the OEM engineering departments, particularly European. Little by little OEM's are tucking away their intellectual property. I have plug and play subscriptions for CAT Electronic Technician, JD Service Advisor, Volvo Tech Tool and Liehberr Lidos + newer Scully. The Scully has cut 75% of all functional options out of the customer version. I requisitioned for a Rep come in for $800 to train us on it and it was so stripped he could not operate it despite the fact he is a company trainer. Not a joke, he could not navigate it in it's depreciated condition without embarrassing himself, he had to leave and come back. American Domestic is still pretty outstanding, CAT ET and John Deere Service Advisor are both good. Jury is out on Volvo. Sophistication is through the roof and info is getting harder to come by. Now the winner is most often the guy who has the right 1-888 internal number to call. Yesterday I worked on a European unit which converted from tier 3 to interim tier 4 with, I'm guessing, a 6" increase in the engine compartment. Keep in mind they made this jump from internal (AI style) EGR ...........to complete external EGR with multiplier turbos. Basically they just cut the inside of the counterweight out for the DPF. My co worker snapped a pic while I was working, under the DPF, on the engine's blind left side by pressing myself into the pump group. Luckily he saw the second successful attempt getting in and not the first attempt when my pants snagged and pulled off. I'm inserted between the DPF on my left hip and the basement of the engine compartment on my right because there is no top access around the emissions system and a superstructure below. A while back I was prodding a salesman from Volvo..."so what are you going to do when we trade-in this junk, Bob? You think you have some end-of-life machinery users in Mexico who are going to want to buy this emissions cripple?". He told me "Not a problem, There is a parts and software kit we can buy from Volvo to basically convert it back to pre-emission. Depends on who buys it. We have to jump through some hoops and show a sale and shipping manifest and stuff like that, but we will sell it." In 1995 the Cummins instructor I trained under said "Jason, there were no good old days. These ARE the good days. This engine you are working on will go well past one million miles". He was right, except he did not know he was just in a sweet spot. I'd like to take him on a modern tour of our LB engine that lasted 4,800 hour before it nearly broke in half because the emissions system support failed. Almost done venting.... Example...... European Intellectual property warfare Here is what you get for $600 from Volvo (blue, L180H) . Here is what I got free from John Deere (black, 824K). Despite some books saying 700K, they are all the same 824K machine. My boss brow beat Volvo till they agreed to drop the $600 charge. No comparison between the theory of operation and available info, Volvo is just generalized gibberish.
  2. Hard love 41, good call. The liberal parents insist to this day "if I didn't have those engines he wouldn't have taken them". If you weren't believable I wouldn't believe it !!!
  3. Guy had the most messed up bio you'll read. Except that his mom successfully robbed a gas station with a ketchup bottle....no small feat.
  4. Dive in, there is an unexhausted flow of wisdom. "Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death." Proverbs 19:18
  5. I respectfully disagree. If we want our government to influence and control human conscience they will need to first strip the majority of our God given rights. The government can't effectively cope with a host of objective issues on their plate much less selectively manipulating individual conscience. If this country fails it will be because we lost the ability to internally govern our own impulses. The first great issue would be asking the new god of government to discern murder of the unborn as acceptable and murder of the newborn as unacceptable. The government can't deal with deciding moral absolutes, God didn't give them the position. Best we can hope for is revival.
  6. Agree. With DNA evidence collection and cameras on every corner, I think they have taken a lot of the holes out of Capital P. Harder to mistake a conviction. However, most liberals, and flip-side, conservative Catholics will still fight tooth and nail to stop capital punishment. I went in for a medical procedure and got a good dose of "knocked out". The guy told me "your going to be out fast when I inject", so I challenged him and tried to hold my head up, talk and stay conscious. BAM.... blackout, flat, drooling limp, ten seconds. Looking back, if that is what the murderer on death row experiences.......... It's almost too lame to call it a deterrent.
  7. It's much less a government issue and more grass roots. The Government is biblically mandated to "bear the sword" and provide execution for these folks, that's the entire sum of involvement. The grass roots are charged with the task of saving the fool from his folly. The last century is going to be a bloody high-water mark on the history of heathen behavior. Abortion puts the blood of 40 million babies on America's hands already, these stories strike me as trivial compared to that degree of organized infanticide. Sound mindedness rules that we not be shocked when the chickens come home to roost.
  8. How is the overall performance? Comparatively, 427 vs 460XT?
  9. Its a flow/pressure dilemma. Think hydraulic.....Think in terms of flow since you are constantly losing pressure because of escaping flow......... I'd use moderate pressure. The leak will show. By the time you reach 35 your chasing so much air through the open portions of the valve train you will not be able to hear a leak over the hissing inside the engine, unless soaping. Motor initially will turn a little under pressure (till centered in strokes), but some intake valve may stay open. You can manually rotate the motor to minimize loss, you will find sweet spots where intake valves are mostly closed. If I were doing a full tune package on your engine I would pull the valve rocker shafts + injectors and allow all the valves to close, then pressure test CMCAC circuit. If I see/hear/detect air coming up through the injector nipple bores you know your intake valves are a little sketchy.
  10. Boy...the 500 just can't be ankle holster friendly.
  11. God Bless Texas indeed!! Not only shot back, but chased him in his car. May still get credited with downing the shooter. Disgusted, but comfortable knowing they were hearing Christ's saving gospel when they were called home. Nut jobs show up at your church in Kevlar so all you have to shoot at is nuts, butts and guts. Feel it may be time to retire the .38 for something that holds a bigger meat drill.
  12. Was suprised to get in here. Looks like the administrator is going to have a mess to unwind.
  13. Thanks for the follow up!! That is a good return for a hands-off software flash. The other day I saw a straight log truck + pup pull up to our scale. 2004 AI. Couldn't help myself. Asked him how the truck has been? Guy said he had over a million (second engine) on the truck pulling 98K and has never got better than 3-4 MPG. Never touch the engine, even to upgrade injectors. You wonder how many are out there?
  14. Historically we first have a miss if it is base metal dying in an EUP hole. Code is generally a pulse magnet, but can accompany a miss. Has a lot to do with the OEM software. I've replaced a dozen EUPs on the Liehberrr for mechanical or magnet fails, but have never, to date, got a code, only a run issue. Mack was more sensitive by far. It's never a bad idea to check your EUPs when your over 10K hours. The pic I have attached was from a 15K engine. 2 of 6 cylinders had broken EUP springs, the one which broke a second time took out the cam because it unloaded the roller from the cam. One crack keeps the load, but when #2 comes it's over. Pulled a lot of broken springs out of Mack engines. You likely will not find your code issue in the hole of the EUP or inspecting and you could introduce dirt if your not careful. I would only inspect them in the case of engine age, off season downtime, free labor and because Pre EGR engines are real nice to work on.
  15. Yeah, definitely not your average coffin sleeper....
  16. Then His foreigner parents would probably sue America and a lib judge would rule in favor of the plaintiffs. End up with more lawsuits at pumpkin fest....... but think of the happy faces when the trebuchet tripped. Alllllaaaahhhh's snack baaaaaaaaaaaaar ~thump~
  17. EMP proof? Do they have it in some kind of a Faraday cage?
  18. If you do pull them cross swap #5 to a hole that is easiest to access. See if the code moves to the different hole. If next week you pop a new cylinder position you've caught your trouble maker red handed. I'd run six months and if no codes popped anywhere x-install the cal codes from 5 to wherever and vise versa. Record codes during swap if you can still see them.
  19. I think I got them for about $8 per kit from PAI. If you get delta seal upgrade they are more expensive. no call for delta seal unless seeing fuel in oil.
  20. Roger that D.W. Muslim terrorists have great success recruiting in prisons, best to kill them before the Miranda rights kick in. If you tell a fellow criminal that murder, control and rape is the path to heaven they are much more enthused than via the Christian version. Guessing Jr was gut shot cause the suspicion is that this was planned and he is going to have body armor. You may see a few more pistol bearing cops using an alternative gut/pelvis hit and the swat with Ftlbs. of fire energy using center mass. After that cop fires the first round it is game on. If the turd in question has body armor then he is going to counter engage. If Ishmael has a couple 10MM bile holes leaking into his guts it is more debilitating than a useless square-body hit to Kevlar. Looks like it is going to be a colostomy bag instead of 40 virgins.............aw Shuckers.
  21. If they can produce anything that sticks on Manafort they will have accomplished their task. With the current climate you don't have to exhaust yourself on detailed facts and proof, the consumers are too A.D.D. for large info meals. You simply get your victim on the front of a newspaper and public opinion court does the rest. Look at Cosby and Harvey. I'm not debating their ethics, just the butterfly effect of the accusation..... First all your endorsements run, deals cancel, the colleges/guilds/associations pull whatever awards/acknowledgements where awarded to you, Obama comes on twitter and makes a statement about your behavior, women with children run to the other side of the street and you have not yet made it through the first week of an accusation.
  22. Use your PAI log-in. It will do the "manual" break down and should give you OE numbers as well as PAI conversion. It's handy for owner operators who DIY. PS- if the little connector screws for wire do not feel like they want to be removed........ better stop and consider if you want to snap it off just to do inspection. They generally do not do well with age.
  23. Looking for a Log Trailer. Bunk/Crib Style preferred. Needs to be tri axle.
