  1. Ya, I've always done it with a manual trans. I didn't know how the M-Drive works with no clutch. I didn't know if you had to be stopped in neutral to engage the PTO, or if you could engage on the fly. I still remember spreading with the Mack 12 speed in a Superliner. You had to pick the right gear to get the box to raise at the right speed to match your road speed. It was like a 5 speed PTO, LOL I love spreading gravel. Especially with the pony trailer on. Do the trailer, hit the diverter valve and do the truck in one shot. But I especially like not trucking at all any more, LOL So much nicer just looking at them now, remembering the "glory days" LOL
  2. I believe that is what the op was asking....how to tailgate spread with the chains when you have an M-Drive.....if the PTO can be engaged and the box raised while driving in gear. I also wondered....I guess you CAN engage the PTO while driving with the M-Drive? I wasn't sure if you had to stop first.
  3. Cheating your log book with a sleeper berth. 😉
  4. I'm sure you already found your answer, but I got this from salesman I was talking to when I enquired about this truck. But it was already sold. It had the M-drive also. [When the truck is in gear, the brake acts as a clutch pedal. Typically you would put the truck in neutral to lift the box and dump but you can still do this in gear to spread- You still have control over the box/ PTO as long as you are not feathering the brake. I hope this helps/ makes sense.]
  5. Ya, my collection starts around 1980, LOL First class 8 trucks I drove were 1978's.
  6. Awesome thread, and awesome truck Oldspwr!!
  7. I sthat a Silver 92 emblem I see on the twin steer? Wouldn't that be an obnoxious beast driving through town now!!! I love it!
  8. Thanks Mark. I didn't remember seeing it mentioned anywhere.
  9. I've often wondered why they never caught on as self loader logging trucks.
  10. Mandrewoid, thought I'd show you this. The very first DMM to arrive in my town when they first came out. After this one, they took over the entire ready mix industry here.
  11. That is wicked cool. Thanks for posting. It's too bad you didn't want to keep it as just a show truck, but I get it. I realize you want to use a truck to tow your trailer. But that mixer is so rare, and cool though.
  12. And that's why the MTO/DOT ignore all these issues. Now that I have retired from trucking I got a job in a mine and I sometimes have to unload transports with the forks on my wheel loader. I recently unloaded a transport that came in with 4 big steel ventilation fan housings that took up whole trailer. The tractor had all bald tires, and the doors held shut with bungee cords. The big housing at rear of trailer had ONE strap on it that was dragging on ground because it sawed through. The middle two had ONE strap each over them. (A lot of good one strap does on a round object) And the front had NO securement at all!!!! I sent pics to my local MP and the head of the MTO (DOT). Know what the repsonse was? "Yes, this is an unfortunate situation." End of conversation. But don't any of you veterans of the road get caught with a marker light out!!!!!!! And the other day one got pulled into the scales (I know inspection officers.) They asked for his license. He pulled out a hand written piece of paper from his boss. They told him that is not a license. He says "boss tell me that good. good good....you go....you drive ....good." No, I'm not a racist. Just bringing reality to light. Anyone that operates like that does not need to be on our highways.
  13. What did this truck have for power? Cat ot Cummins?
  14. They already caused me to retire from trucking. I'm scared to just drive on the road up here now. Can't go anywhere without a highway closure, wreck, or meeting them on your side of the yellow line. But with this new M.E.L.T. law I can't train my kid (with 36 years conviction free class AZ experience), but they can come drive for 6 months at a time on their home license and can't speak or read english road signs?????????????????
  15. Saw this on Truck Paper. Pretty cool looking truck. https://www.truckpaper.com/listings/trucks/for-sale/209272655/1964-mack-b53s
  16. Very cool. Mine is just a play toy. I don't have any snap coupler implements at this point. My Kubota does all the work, but I'd like to start getting some stuff for the Allis. I've been waiting to get to one of the Mecum antique tractor auctions, but covid ruined that. I don't want to go right now and have to deal with all the covid stupidity at the border.
  17. When that guy starts running the Big Mack trucks site......he don't even have to ask, please delete my account! LOL
  18. They should have a new colored dog for the new Swedish drivetrain, LOL
  19. I've always read in my Mack brochures that a gold dog meant pedigreed drivetrain. Yet in all my years in trucking I have seen brand new Mack's with vendor drivetrains with gold dogs and all Mack drivetrains with chrome dogs. So I have no idea, LOL
  20. It was up north here when I was going to get it. But didn't end up getting it. Took it in to a shop to get checked over and the engine needed a rebuild, they wouldn't safety it because they said the frame had rust under the fifth wheel plate, it had all kinds of electrical issues. If I had a lot of money to spend on it, it would have been a good truck. Kinda wish I got it now. The interior was mint. Who was Jack Culbert? Do you know anything about that truck Alex? I know it went back down to Sothern Ontario, but I don't know who bought it. But I was told it wasn't getting scrapped.
  21. Kinda over the top....but all valid points....giving trophies to everyone that participates, now we have a nation full of lazy pussies.
  22. I ran two LTS8000's one with a 6V71 13 speed the other an 8V53 with a 5&4 An LT9000 with an 8V71 318. And a loaded LTL9000 with a 3406 425 Cat. I always liked the Ford's. They had terrible headlight wiring though, LOL
  23. In todays covid news.......a young guy in the maintenance dept at the mine here tested positive for covid. Sent home from work. Well turns out he can return because according to our Public Health Unit he isn't showing symptoms so he's good. So it's okay to test positive....just don't be in the vicinity of him or you will have to quarantine and test negative after 10 days, LOL WHAT A FARCE, LOL Anyway, here's what a smart guy thinks of all this. Enjoy the new Kid rock song.
  24. Awesome trucks Snowman!!!! Love the colors too. I never spent any time in a CLT, but did run an LTL 9000. Loved that truck.
