  1. I don't recall ever seeing too many Howie Long pickup ads, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. As long as Ford doesn't start over again with the Dennis Leary "words flying across the screen" commercials. I HATE the Dennis Leary ads.
  2. There's a lot of wind resistance moving at 75. More than likely just a little lack of engine displacement, second over with tall rears takes some torque to hold speed
  3. My setup is similar, same tall rubber and trans, but 4.42 rears. 17 is good on 2 lanes and under 60, 18 is highway gear, loaded or empty. I need to be able to back up loaded, and creep across wilderness though too, so the 4.42 fit me well. I used to see a few trucks set up for !8th to be a fast and empty gear when I hauled grain. A friend had it in his pete, and I would run right with him until "flip" then it was over.
  4. With 3.58 rears behind an 18, are you running in 17 or 18 with a load on? It seems like with that tall of a setup, it may be lugging a bit.
  5. Man, the presidential limos look like crap. These new cars look terrible stretched out, not as smooth as the old Cadillac and Lincolns. That resto-mod Diamond T is pretty sharp. Things like that usually don't appeal to me, but I liked the look of that one before I realized what was going on
  6. Mama always said " don't linger out there in the chat room"....... and "wash your hands comin' outta there" Oh wait, that wasn't the chat room, it was the $hi+ house..."
  7. There will undoubtedly be a long list of agreements, treaties, and mandates that will haunt this country long after he leaves office. The media will likely wait until after the election to report on the ones they feel we are entitled to know about. I have more than a little concern about the crap he will pull between now and January.
  8. I have them on several different vehicles, including the mack. The drain hole on the e7 oil pan is on one side kinda, and that helps some. My c-12 cat has one, and it hangs down low off the pan. I haul stuff into and out of pastures and fields all the time. Never had an issue with tall grass, twigs, or "missing" hotwire fence bothering them. The one for the mack drains a little slower, but when I drop the oil I usually let it drip overnite.
  9. I misread this the first time. He tied the snake to the doorknob, then called. I thought he tied the "twig" to the door.
  10. Whatever those mexicans were piled into must have been hella tough if they survived, let alone drove it a few blocks. That's a lot of damage to the Mack, so the pile of junk they were riding in ought to be non existent.
  11. Wind power will never be anything but a small additional source for electrical generation, unless they cover the entire open countryside with them. They built up an addition to the wind farm that was situated from east to west about 8 miles north of my house. Now they run east to west for 8 miles just across the road to the north 1/2 a mile. They shut them down every time the wind is expected to be over 35 mph, which is often this time of year. They don't really make alot of sound unless you're outside, then it sounds like an airliner going overhead at altitude. The payments to landowners would be a tremendous boon to our local economy, if only more of the land was actually owned by local farmers. They are installing new "wind farms" all around Oklahoma now, helped by the generous state gov't that makes large payments to, and gives tax incentives to, "big wind." Meanwhile, everyone else that lives here gets to live with draconian cuts to schools, health care for elderly, and other state budget items. If all these handouts weren't here, would this still be taking pace? When they were going to build the ones right here by the house, I thought at least they would use some local contractors for construction. This would have been a benefit for an area that has been short on good work for some time. Instead they brought in contractors and trucking outfits from other states. If some things were done differently, there would be more actual positives for the local area economy. As it is, it seems like a bad idea, poorly executed, and rammed down everyone's throats. Years down the road, as efficiency grows, they may be more viable. But by then, the older less efficient ones will cover the land, and our gov't will have already sold out any future taxing/revenue options. Long story short, I'd like to grease up one of those blades and shove it up all these politicians (dem and repub alike) A...
  12. When you replace it, make sure the new one is oriented in the thermostat housing the right way. Also use a good amount of shellac on the gasket.
  13. That driver with the dashcam is living a blessed life. Not only did the trailer clear his car, but the loose axle assembly bouncing by missed him as well. He ought to consider a lottery ticket
  14. I guess I just figured that if it had made it this far, that I got one of the good ones. Oh well..
  15. Last Friday my engine developed a clatter. It was barely there in the morning, but after lunch it became quite pronounced. Figuring it was a bridge, I quit early, and took her home. Monday morning, I went to Mack to get bearings and a wheel seal, which also appeared Friday . I was going to poke around under the valve covers while I had it home, but the Mack shop had a spot open (for once) and said they could look at it. Nothing wrong under the top covers, so off with the oil pan. Well, there was lifter bits in the pan, so now we're doing a cam r&r and 12 lifters. Hopefully, it will be back together Monday. Not a lot of "good" work lately, but I don't wanna miss any.
  16. It will take away some HP to turn the big shafts in a truck transmission, will the small displacement motor be up for that? Also going to need a source of air for range shift and/or a splitter. I've never heard of a gear flip on a 10, but that would be a large jump from 1:1 down to ~.60:1, require some grunt! Preferably, there would be a ratio somewhere in between, or a Maxidyne up front
  17. I wonder if that Scout really has that much sheetmetal left, or if its all putty. Almost all the old scouts and Broncos here have about become one with the earth again. Would the company security cams have any clues on them about your inside guy?
  18. Was burnt orange a factory color option in that year? Really nice bus anyway.
  19. Hey now, I don't own flip flops, but if those show up in the truck somehow, I wouldn't mind.
  20. Yeah, those are what I call type 2. Type 1 are the ones you hear roaring up ,then everything sways around. Type 2, you hear a pop or boom and everything shakes. Type 1 seem to last longer, but type 2 are a more violent action. How far are you from the New Madrid fault? Ours in Oklahoma are the shallow (man-made?) ones, some might say they originate down in the "Chesapeake", along the "Continental" line.
  21. With the little CH cab, I'll be limited to the first two. I did notice they're wearing Oklahoma shirts, so my hopes are high.
  22. Have you checked inside the passenger frame rail?
  23. My CH and the other macks worked on have 2 9/16 6 pt nuts to hold the hub on the spindle.
  24. The old Nascar pics are pretty neat, back when they could be called stock cars. Grey shirt jogger looks pretty neat too, the other gals appear to need another helping or two of that meatloaf.
  25. Wow, no mine's the slightly cheaper "working white boy" model The Eagle one looks similar to mine.
