  1. Last week we did a injector cup job on an MP8 and the driver said they also had some new volvo's with the "same as MP8" engines and they were also having the problems as the Macks "as far as injector cups go". We have been lucky here as our MP-8 have mostly just had injector cup failures. But I just pulled in an MP8 and it had a bad miss and a code for #3 injector, when I removed the valve cover, the exhaust roller had locked up and gouged the cam. So it's cam time. By the way, the rocker arms have "VOLVO" casted into them, so they do use the same parts. Another funny thing, we had an MP7 turbo lock up today, we had one in stock and it came in a Cummins box, Holset make the MP turbo but is owned but Cummins. Customer saw this and thought we were putting Cummins parts on his Mack, we told him it would go faster and he was happy.
  2. By fuel processor I guess you mean the fuel filter assembley that has the clear plastic bowl with the fuel filter in it? If so, it does have 2 heater (coolant) hoses that pump coolant through it to keep the fuel warm in the winter. If you just bypassed this by looping the hose back around to the engine, it should not have hurt any thing and the truck should run fine. I have seen some that used regular heater(rubber) hoses and some that used high pressure style(stratoflex) hoses to run coolant through the filter. If your's uses the high pressure style hoses you might have gotten the lines mixed up as the fuel lines look like the coolant lines. P.S. you need to put shutoffs one those coolant lines so in the summer, you dont heat the fuel so hot, we have had some low power complaints do to fuel heaters left on during the summer.
  3. The dip switches on the back of the tach could be set wrong and then the tach would be off. Take to a mack dealer and let them plug a ProLink to it a see what the rpms are on the ProLink. If rpms are really 2300 the somethings wrong with the injection pump.
  4. There is no set average of hours vs miles, I'm just going by what we see around here. As far as overhaul, Mack says if it burns more than a gallon oil per 1000 miles it needs an overhaul, this is what they said in a service bullitin back in 2000. They were not concerned about blow-by at all, just oil consumption.
  5. Yes, hours X MPH, But on dump truck around here 35mph is usually the max and I just checked an asphalt hauler and it was 13mph average. I just checked a CXU over the road truck and it was ave. 54 mph and it dosent idle at night due to having a APU generator insalled.
  6. A somewhat large trucking company in our area just parked all their trucks about a month ago. They didnt go out of bussiness just parked them till either fuel comes down or freight rates come up. They have over 100 trucks, at one time they had about 16 Macks in their fleet(2000 CX's) but go rid of them and bought more freightliners.
  7. All the MP-8's around here are doing OK, we had 2 with injector cup failures and one with a broken rocker arm but other than that no problems. Most of the ones around here have 20,000-50,000 miles on them. The new download recall(PI663) is going to help with the injector cup failures. The owners love the better fuel mileage and the drivers love the power. All the MP-7's around here are doing good also.
  8. With engine running, grab fuel pump plug(round gray plug at fuel pump) and shake it and twist it, see if engine dies or sputters. We replace alot of harnesses on CH models but not many on R series.
  9. We just got in my buddies new 2009 CHU 612 that he ordered back in january. It's pretty sharp, adding some chrome to it today. Its gonna be a handfull with that short wheelbase and MP-8 engine. He 's trading in his 2000 CH613 with 950000 miles on it, its never had the heads or oil pan off, orignal clutch, a/c compressor everything orignal except belts, brakes and 1 EUP. It's been the perfect truck. Hope this new one holds up as well. Wish I had a better camera, the 09 is pretty slick.
  10. Thats the first Liberty edition RW I have ever seen, We have a couple of MH's Liberty editions with V-8's around here, one just a mile from my house.
  11. I'll send it in the morning when I get 2 work, its on my work pc.
  12. My pic of diagram is 2 big to put here, will try to shrink it down later and put it on here.
  13. I enclosed a wiring diagram for fuse 41. We had some problems with wires rubbing and shorting to ground on to of trans. There are 2 plugs onto of trans, 1 says pto and the other is torque limit, make sure those wires are not shorted to ground.
  14. I think fuse 41 also powers something else, I think the PTO harness on top of the transmission. I have had this problem before. I'll look at the wiring diagram in the morning and let you know.
  15. If this an E-TECH engine ( most 99 engines are), check fuse 41 in fuse box under hood ( on firewall, above drivers side front tire) If its good, unplug fan clutch solenoid and turn key on and you should have 12 volts at on of the 2 pin on the harness side plug.
  16. At a Mack meeting our of our salesman was told that the I-shift tranny was in such high demand overseas that they could barely build enough and it would be awhile before they would be offered in the Macks.
  17. Didn't mean to offend anyone with my comment about the Netherlands. I know Mack is famous all over the world and am glad you like Macks as much as we do. The part looks like the engine thermostat housing. Mack might have another name for it though. I know the coolant filter stand assembly is made in China and some of the brackets for the alt and a/c compressor and fan shroud are made in Great Britan. When I take these MP engines apart it's weird to see where all the parts come from.
  18. Heres a new MP-7. Is the Netherlands a country? And right below the MP7, India, Soon the only jobs in the U.S. will be to sell, service and assemble the stuff we buy from overseas.
  19. Big recall on all ASET AC engines, 39,310 trucks, Replace injector lines and use special tool to tourque lines. Every tech that puts them on has to watch a video and take a test to get certified to install injector lines now. We do about 3 trucks a week. If you dont do it right, fuel leaks onto the exhaust manifold and engine catches fire, ask us how we know.
  20. I dont know on a Volvo. Our VCADS program is the same one the Volvo shops use but to use the program every tech has his own password and that password lets you into the Mack side or the Volvo side. If you work at a dual dealer you can use it on Mack or Volvo. We are Mack only. I am clueless on the Volvo, sorry
  21. Paducah
  22. Come on Mack/Volvo do we have to go to China to get a exhaust manifold pipe and Great Britian to turbo clamp. We have enough people here out of work. This is on a 2008 MP-8
  23. We went and got the Mack recomended Toughbook computer and have our Mack programs for VMAC1-3, Eaton abs program, Bendix program, Cummins INSITE and VCADS. All work great except for the VCADS, we tried to install the Preium Tech Tool and when we did it was like watching a snail run, way to slow. You could click on Vcads then go to the bathroom then go get a drink and smoke a cig and then see if you can log on. We had to take off the Premium Tech tool till we can get another laptop, which sucks because it has the only manuals for the DPF troubleshooting, Mack dosent make any books/paper manuals for DPF's and they say they wont , you have to use the Premium Tech Tool program.
  24. They tell me the same thing too " Oh we never had that error code" B.S.
