If I took a tyre back to a tyre shop like that I wouldn't get any warranty The story would be "you've bumped it on something" or "you drove something into it" I have had a few tubed tyres do this for no apparent reason I have tried to claim warranty and got no were I guess the tyre shop also has to be able to prove to their supplier that the tyre was faulty and the tyre shop knows what they can and can't get claims on And I also guess I have to be able to prove what happened and that I didn't bump it Tyres are cheap these days and it just isn't worth the aggravation And I only have 1 tyre service in town and I have been dealing with them since the beginning of time, I'm kinda loyal and they have always been there for me on shit drought years Still a bumber about the donut, but she's still a sweet ride Paul -

Nathan Try finding blokes that import Yanky stuff like motors for hot rods and muscle cars etc to the UK and Europe Last year I got 2 truck gear boxes sent from the U.S. to Australia for less than the cost of freighting two sets of mud flaps I got these here from a bloke that imports cars and car parts, I just for a bit of room in a shipping container $300.00 Aus landed in Australia from the East coast of the U.S. Which is kinda strange, it cost more to get them to the port in the U.S. than from the U.S. to Australia And it's cheaper to get things delivered to Australia from the East coast than West So maybe it might be cheaper to get things imported Sweden (lots Swedish people love the big Yank tank type of cars) and grab a ute a mate or the little woman and jump on a ferry from the UK to Europe and drive to Sweden to collect London to Stockholm is according to Google only 22 hours of driving, grab a mate and some good music, your there in a day and have a story to tell everyone Paul

Okay, well there is always good news Should be able to get the crank built up and reground Or maybe get one from the middle east, plenty of Mack stuff there, however the cranks are probably badly worn as well So I would get it built up and re ground, it will be like a brand new crank then I reckon this would be cheaper getting a crank out there Paul

I have never torqued a axle nut I do it as tight as I can the whole time wiggling the hub and down and rolling the hub around, this makes sure the wheel bearings are fully seated, at least in my peanut of a brain Then back the nut of, then just do it up until it is snug and back it off until the first flat or hole in the nut lines up for the spilt pin I guess this would be pretty close to Joey's measurements Paul

No help here, we don't use these type of boxes when the steering wheel is on the correct side Well, at least I have never seen one Paul -
It sounds t like the rack isn't shifting far enough I would expect if the intercooler had a air leak it would be making lots of smoke underload I would be looking for something obvious like the injector pump isn't getting pushed around far enough when the foots to the floor It sounds like something is preventing this from happening Paul

Superliner RW700 Steering axle
mrsmackpaul replied to 1961H67's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
The other thing to consider is bump steer So the link between your pitman arm on the steering boxes and arm I circled kin the redish orange colour in the top photo needs to be level when the truck is at ride height If it isn't, when you drive through a hole or dip on the road the truck will wander across the road height difference is lengthened and shortened Bump steer is pretty important, probably more important than Ackerman as Ackerman only effects the steering on tight turns and has no effect when cruising along down the highway Bump steer has a big effect at speed Caster angle is easily corrected with wedges on leaf springs, so it's no big drama Paul -

I gather this arm is the one your talking about I don't think these can be switched from side to side, the key ways will be all wrong amd ass about And this bit is upside down ? Is this correct As far as Ackerman angles and how important it is, well it wont effect you much when your driving add speed, only when really turning sharp, the tyres will try and peel off the rims if wheel base is vastly different Good news is, these two arms have effect on the Ackerman angle, wrong arms for that The two short arms with the blue arrows are the two that effect Ackerman angle Paul -
So I gather if my translation is correct There was a blockage in a oil gallery ? Paul
