  1. I have tinkered with my pump to flow a little more fuel. I noticed that the EGTs rise to 1000 fairly quick now. Thats ok because Im just bob tailing to shows and stuff. I dont think I could pull a long hill loaded as the EGTs will get to high. It is fun for bob tailing around and my Butt dyno tells me HP is up. From what I have learned from others is that If you want to properly get more HP you need more air when you add more fuel. Most newer high HP diesels are running hi boost to keep EGTs down and keep emissions in check. higher Boost will burn the extra fuel and keep EGTs down. the intercooler should be able to keep up for most adjustments but be carefull. Injector size may become a issue depending on the powere you want. my advice is to get a cheep, used slightly larger turbo and up the fuel flow a little. Then see where the EGTs settle on a pull. The extra boost from a larger turbo should be able to burn the extra fuel added and the injectors may be fine for the powere. As you know many of us dont have a dyno to prove our results and none of us will tell you its 100% safe. just be smart, make little adjustments AND WATCH YOUR GUAGES
  2. looking good. dident you make a great looking green/white RD mack a few months ago? I havent seen many DM800s like that from my aera. lots of U models and DM600. I just won a R model kit on ebay yesterday and bought a RS700L resin hood. I plan to recreate my RS mack after I finish the Astrailian V8 Valuliner conversion kit that im working on. What kind of paint do you use? I started to use the model masters water base paint a few years back and love how easy it is to airbrush not to mention fix my mistakes
  3. great stories guys. I can relate to the steering wheel breaking fingers. My RS has manual steering and I will never for get how fast that wheel moved the first time I slowly rolled over a curb!!!
  4. find a real low gear and I bet it could that 600HP is for the big roads. I dought he used all 600 ponys to pull that more important how much weight was on the drives and what suspention did it have?? regardless its good to see a Mack in the News Trent
  5. not shure if I read the post correctly but I think you will find some small issues trying to put later style interior parts in the early cabs. I know the rear wall is a few inches closer to the front so the headliner may not fit properly. door panels should fit fine and the Radio console should fit with no major modifacation. But I think your biggest issue is finding a full used good interior. I have been looking for a black interior for a year with little luck. No longer made and salvage yards want to sell the whole cab intact. Trent
  6. Its diffrent for shure. not my sort of taste, but I truely can apreciate the vision (no pun intended) behind it.
  7. wow! nice truck. Im shure your grandpa is proud of that machine. How long has he owned it?
  8. Great news Rob! I remember the pics on the old BMT site when you started tearing it down. hope to see it at a truck show soon!! Trent
  9. I think the later V8s were pretty good i.e E9 sieres I hear of bearing issues with the early versions 865 or 866 V8s My company I work for has a 440 V8 with 480,000 miles on it with out a rebuild. besides the basic stuff that wears out its been a good engine. It does have excess blow by now and will need a rebuild soon . The down fall with the v8 is that if it does break something . its likely big$$$ to fix. Alot of people will pull the tired V8 out and put a fresh 400HP E7 in its place. not my style but for saveings I can understand the reason.
  10. The R model pumpers that I have seen had many diffrent engine options. Early R models could have had gas engines or diesel. Diesels were more common. 237,285,300,315,350 HP we likely the most commin installed engines. Transmissions could be automatic or manual 5 speeds. possible more manual gear boxes were offered but that would depend on what the buyer speced. I have seen off road mack fire trucks that were 4x4 but the 4x2 seam to be more common for city fire trucks . have seen many 6x4 tankers also. I have not seen a crew cab R but I have seen a pic of an open top R model fire truck. ask some of the guys in the Mack fire truck section of this site. those guys will know first hand what you are asking Trent
  11. your likely correct HK LOL but I know a few of us here would be more than willing to stop by to take a Volvo sign down and put one of those large gold dog that dealerships have in its place. Trent
  12. is the house for sale Doug? looks like it could be saved still? thanks for taking the pic and passing them along. Hopefully Mack H.Q can pull sometheng togeather Trent
  13. thats the whole issue....make a truck simple and easy to drive and anyone can turn the steering wheel..including the speed racer type. I like to hammer down out on the big roads away from traffic. but I find myself relaxed in the city around traffic and stop lights. Hell, most of the time I just play the stop lights and pass that 600 hp pete at every green light LOL ... I love it when you are slowing down for a red light and you can hear the turbo spool of that big HP truck coming up the left side. he cuts in front of you, and still speeds to the red light. I change lanes and pass him as hes starting from 1st (or 5th lol )again.. its like clock work same style of driving but diffrent truck every light..
  14. Barry started a thread on the old BMT site with girls and rigs.. we should start that thread again LOL Trent
  15. over 16,000! for a plane equiped CH...WOW! I thought that these new trucks were all in the mid 15,000 range wet. I figure that with a full tank of fuel ( 86 more gallons of fuel, or 126 gallons total) I would add about 605 pounds. 15680 + 605 = 16,285 wet, guess thats not to bad. Trent
  16. I asked this question on the ATHS site also I took the Dog out for a short run today and decided to go past the local gravel pit to get it weighed. weighed in at ...15,680 lbs the truck is basicly 100% stock and had about 40 gallons of fuel. heavy aftermarket add ons are 2 line wet kit 45 gal hyd oil steel tool box alum 1/2 fenders Truck is a "lightweight" version, Mack RS700"L" L = lightweight componets used? Is this an AVG weight, heavy, light??? Trent
  17. Looking good Jeff!!! you have done a real nice restoration on her I think that tip turbine will work fine for you with no load. If temps do get hot just fab up a tube that runs to the front of the truck. would think outside air up front would be cooler? if you get a good run with her let us know what the EGTs get to. Trent
  18. ebay or any large hobby shop should have a good selection of old mack models I think all the 1/25 and 1/24 scale mack models (besides the superliners) are temporary discontinued. However they are still selling from people that buy them in large amounts and mark them up http://www.stsmodeltrucks.com/ has all the needed aftermarket parts for your mack truck models Trent
  19. DM 800 tractor 865v8 5 speed trans spread camelback tandems ??? Trent
  20. it does sound like an air sucking issue. If it starts and runs then quits that means that it can supply the engine with fuel untill to much air enters and the prime is lost. if all the lines are good and not craking etc.. look in the fuel tanks for dirt or rust etc... I have heard that the pick up tubes at the top of old fuel tanks rust and may allow air to enter the lines. wile there, check to see if the pick up tupe is clogged. If you removed the hand primer its likely the fuel drained all the way back to the tanks. you may need to force air into the tank and help the fuel get into the lines again to start it? after it starts crack the injectors one at a time and wait for the chugging to stop then tighten them.
  21. I thought mack still had the tan in a spray can? I just bought the interior grey spray last month Trent
  22. Im 26 and altho I have never smoked a joint, or abused any type of Drug...EVER! alot of my friends that I still have today , took drugs. I have freinds that smoked pot as young as 10 and even lost a few long time friends from cocaine OD back in my high school years. Drugs have been around for 1,000s of years but the rate at wich people fall victim is crazy I know people say pot is the gateway drug. but I say the problems all start in your head. It seems that the people that get hooked have other issues in there life and find drugs as an easy escape to there problems. most of the kids in my HS only did drugs with other users. Everyone would meet after school for a joint. or all meet up and look for someone with pot. It was pretty sad my 2nd year in HS when most of the students only wanted to smoke a joint with the older kids thinking it was cool. I have been out of HS for some time now and many of my friends that did drugs now sencerly regret some of the things they did. I have lost a few great friends because they refused to stop abusing. Its sad when I think back of how we were back in grade school and how they chouse a drug over a long time friend. some times people will wake up and relize what they have done to you and themselves. I always give someone a 2nd chance. However I honestly dont have an issue with people wanting to smok a joint or social drinking, poping a pain killer from time to time etc.. to relax. but I do have isser how so many kids today get into drugs soearly, get hooked during HS years and later move onto hard core drugs. I think the main reason I never got into drugs was because I was too busy working on my stuff..go cart, riding lawn mower, alwasy had a wrench in my hand or an idea in my head. I thank my mom for letting me roam the neighborhood looking for side jobs with friends, allowing me to learn things by trial and error. If more parents would let/ make kids stay out side I think many of them would steer clear of drugs. Trent
  23. one thing I have noticed with drivers is that if they have not driven a mack before, is they will have difficult time learning how to shift the gear box . When I was working full time driving dump trucks I had to give a few new guys that were 10 + years older than me a road test in a R model. With the 5 speeds, they could never get the timing right and were depressing the clutch all the way untill the clutch break was causing them more issues. It also seams as if the new breed of drivers all come from some large OTR out fit i.e swith.jb etc..and when they found that the life of the OTR was not what its cracked up to be they look for local jobs. these are the worst type to get as they likely took a test with an automatic truck to get there CDL then sent directly to a throw away garbage freightliner where they "learned" to just bang the gears into position and not wait for the rpms to drop. at my current job we have 6 truck drivers and I can honestly say that only 3 of them, including myself, know how the trucks drive train functions. most cant even figure how to "pre select" gear with the splitter... I could go on and on about new drivers stories but its something we all have heard before.
  24. Rob, my advice is to grow some eyes in the back of your head!!
  25. I think your right HK trucking besides the range selctor transmissions i.e T200 sieres that had the syncro pack for the range selection. I dont know of a synchromesh trans that is MACK mfg. alot of the trucks mfgs made over seas do have car transmissions i.e syncromesh ....LOL
