Im Looking for some people with a 283 maxidyne and 5/6 speed combo. Whats your EGT reading at a hard pull? whats your avg cruising EGT. just wondering as im sometimes seeing some high EGT temps (1200.) after a adjustment of the fuel screw. I also recently installed a new probe and guage. the wire lead between the probe and guage was standard wire. Im wondering if I need a special wire lead/ length or if i just have a little to much fuel going to her? Whats the thought on this one?

Mack Cabover Sleepers
Lmackattack replied to ThaddeusW's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I cant recall ever seeing one here in and around the Chicago aera. I know where there are a few sleeper cab F models but no hi rise sleepers. I always liked the look of the ones from across the pond. -
Story about finding the familys first dog. My dad bought a used 78' R685ST back in 1978 to haul freight around Chicago Wisconsin and Indiana. It was a standard Chicago speced Mack. 186" WB, 283 Hp tipturbine. 5 speed. 3.86 rears. He was in a partner ship with his brother that owned a trucking company in Lyons IL near I-294 and I-55. He would pick me up from home if he had a short run and we would spend some quality time in the old R model. I was 5 at the time and can remember being able to curl up under the passenger seat for a nap when waiting to get loaded. One winter night dad and where picking up in the city, The truck was backed in an ally dock left running as dad and I waited inside for the paperwork and the full load. When we came out to the truck dad helped me into the jump seat. He walked back around to his door but something cought his ear, He heard a squeek or something. thinking it was a slipping belt or something he opened the hood he stepped between the tire and engine looking for a problem. as he looked around he saw a pup lying under the engine trying to keep warm. The dog wouldent get up or move. thinking its hurt or possibe that we ran over it when backing up. he decided to pull the truck foward to get better access to it. When he picked the dog up it had its belly and chin frozen to the pavement. He managend to free him and put it in the cab with us. On our way back to the rail yard the dog, cold and scared thought the best place to hide was under dads air seat. I remember dad pulling the truck over a few times trying to get the dog away from the seat worried that he would get cought in the sissor of the chair. We took the dog home and had him checked out the next morning. all was ok so we decided to keep him. We named him Buck shot, dads CB handel. Our dog stayed with us untill he died about 10 years ago, still with the pink spot on his chin and belly form when we found him frozen under the old R model. This is one of my most fond memories of dads R model. It was the first truck I rode in and how I became to love these old Mack trucks.

Well Mike. It dosent take 3 times to Re-read your post to figure the point you are trying to make about me? Its the same pics of my parts i sold you and the same subject that just somehow comes back to me. I also have never scrapped out a truck but for some reason you think all I do is hold a torch to them. I have used a torch to do to things on a truck. 1) cut the bad cracked rails of my first B model and 2) to remove some butched welds or metal that needed to be replaced, Period. I do recall you offering to sell me some parts from your collection and I can only assume those parts would not have been replaced or would they??? Or is it proper to say you can sell B model parts but others cant?? The part you all ways fall short on is that both of us, and I use "US" as a term as truck fans, have a passion for old trucks yet you continue to take stabs at me, as well as others inside the clubs that share our same intrests. Im not shure as you have been around these clubs longer than I but, is there really room for this unessasary taunting behavior. I think you got everyones full attention from us Mike, We are fully aware that you like to save old trucks, just like all of us do here. I can only wait to drive the old B farther than around the yard Mike, again its the same reason you and others take yours to the show. The Cat powered binder at work is doing just fine sence you care to know. Is not a Mack but again I dont own it. just might pop in that Convoy vid tonight, thanks for the idea Trent

Im still undecided as I may be working for some needed side cash for my other truck projects. If I dont have any side work I will be there with the RS700L. I went last year for my first time with a few friends from Northern IL. The ride out and back was great and I was very impressed with the truck turn out.

I get your point clearly. We all take things apart and some times never getr around to putting things back or find more issues we wish to tackel. $7000 does sound steep so I would pass IMO and find a better price and condition. Superdog. Im a little confused. Explain to us how you are one to preach the do not scrap or take apart motto, yet your a scrap dealer? Its also funny that you only show the same pics of the truck parts I sold you "dirt cheep" from 3 years ago, in an attempt to get a rise out of me. I think most here would agree I did the right thing by dismanteling a truck with cracked rails and sold, traded and gave away everything except the rear springs and truninon. wich I did attempt to give away Free. Im gunna guess you eye color is brown from all the BS attempts to rub my name, trucks and character in the dirt. Feel free to keep trying, but it wont work,People are catching on to you my friend, Be carefull with your words. A for effort Trent Blasco

most of the R models I drive have the small 50 gal hyd tank on the pass side and a larger fuel tank on the drivers side. you could pass a cross over pipe under the driveshaft but the driver side tank is still the issue. The easy fix is to route the exhaust pipe up through the frame rails and add a tee pipe, just above the rails, then its 2 simple 90 deg bends upwards to the exhaust hangers and you can add a mufflers or straight stacks. I did this both on my B and RS models and it looks like a factory set up with no mangled hanging pipes.
-
should be very simple Ron. Just find a junk yard mack and take the exhaust bracket off. bolt it to the frame and run new crossover pipes.and muffler etc... I did this to my B model and it was real simple. Only problem I can see is the routing of the existing RH side pipe Trent

I belive the T200 sieres (T2050,T2060,T2070 etc...) have a .69 overdrive . If no one can say thats a solid for shure answer. I can go check my books for you. Trent

sounds like a diffrent set up being that its got non mack powertrain. Cant help with the Trans or rear clip as for the driver side breather. you may want to look a a superliner that has twin breathers. I know that on some macks the passenger side door does not open as far as the drivers side because the breather would interfear. Some superliners that I have driven had the drivers side breather and the drivers door hinge worked like the passenger side where it did not swing open as far, Just something to be aware of. as far as mounting the breather I would think that you could just drill holes in the needed arear to mount the brace and put some plate behind the cab wall to reinforce the aera that will hold the weight. one other thing the kick vent door may not open as the breather will block its door travel. Rust is a PITA I would find a good cab online i.e E-bay and just swap it out. Its a big job but I think the end results will be better than patching up something that is to far gone. If its just surface rust than any good body man can prep the metal and make it look like new. Trent

Nice ride there, love those long hood R models What are the specs on your rig? What parts do you need? Trent

1973 R700
Lmackattack replied to ThaddeusW's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
That one looks like a "Eastern" R700. Looking at the pic ,the steering box is on the inside of the frame, RS/RL had straight rails and the steering box was mounted on the out side. early RS/RL (Pre 73,)had hoods simmilar to the R700s but the grill opening was bigger and the bottom part of the grill extended downward. later RS/RL700s (73' and on)had taller hoods to accomodate the larger grill but had the same length as a R700 R700s had the same basic hood design of the R600s but they were longer and had a slightly diffrent angle to accept the cowl being farther back,Also there were "side extension panels" behind the fenders There were also diffrent hood lines on the top part of the hoods If you have ever seen a Valuliner hood you will see that some of them have a diffrent body line (top of hood) than standard R600 hoods. Because none of them were driving it, and they all still have a job, LOL Great pic Trent

More Government Regs
Lmackattack replied to greg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
"but then you miss out on some of the improvements in the newer models." such as ???? Besides the better machining and longer life span of new diesels I see very little that intrests me. I know computers make life a little more simple at the dealer ship. but I like to work on my own stuff. Dearerships rates come with a hefty cost and some times paying the dearship is the only way out with computer models. I m not looking to make it rich off of trucking but a few extra grand every year is very nice. -

just wondering about something here. Can people get around these BS regulations if they continue to buy older engines and rebuild them? What I am thinking is if I can buy a few used E6 or ENDT675 and rebuild them when they get tired. Can I avoid the laws this way if I ever jump into trucking full time? -

I will be out of town that weekend . Even if I was in town I would need to take a few days off work and have some deeper pockets as its 800 miles from me. It would cost me about $798 there and back not including hotel costs. I would like to head out there some day with a friend pulling one our rigs on a low boy and split the fuel cost. Someday Trent -
Rankin, Il on Friday June 30th Mack Doctor Jr. and I will be there with R model macks to do a sled pull. See ya there Trent

1989 Superliner Rw-613
Lmackattack replied to Rob's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
HERE IS MY OPINION (S) If a truck has a blown engine and bad frame it is just worth what the rest of good parts it can be sold for. I see many fair parts trucks sell for $1000 just to get the thing out of the way. I think you may be able to deal with this guy because there is no way he can sell it and the new owner drive it away. if he is not willing to part it out he may just be happy with taking a fair deal to see it gone. I would pay anyware from $1000-$1300 for a "junkyard dog" and up to $5000 for a fair running truck. thats just my pocket book holding me back. There are many macks I would pay 10k for and put back to work if I had deeper pockets. For refrence I got my RS700 for 3K and drove it home. I would think non running superliner would bring that or less?? again, just my opinion Trent -
congrats on the "new" R model post us some pics and specs
