  1. It does have two sticks, but I couldn't find a shift diagram anywhere. Proprietor of the shop where it's for sale claims the mileage is original, but I have my doubts. I think it's unusual to see 24.5" rubber on a small, early U. Looks like the tach, and a couple of other smaller gauges have been swapped out. Speedo could have come from some other "period correct" Mack, explaining the low mileage. Nonetheless, I slow down every time I drive by. I once drove an early R with a 673 and straight five speed. The only difference was that the gap between 4th and 5th was about half what it was with a 675, if that makes any sense.
  2. This I'm told is a '66 U model, asking price $4500. I was also told it has a 237 in it, but the pics show otherwise. It's only a mile or so from my house, so I can find out more if needed. The contact phone number is 207-655-6043. It's located in Raymond, ME. http://s37.photobucket.com/user/teebud/library/U%20Model%20Mack
  3. But.....the front wheel steering cut is excellent, HVAC very good, adjustable steering wheel best in the business, sun visors are much better than anyone elses's.
  4. DM's were purpose-built for dump truck applications (DM stood for dump mixer) but there were lots of R's out there built as dumpers. Some were converted road tractors, some had a double frame. the DM had a 13.5" frame, R was perhaps 10". For what you want, either will work.
  5. I am in complete agreement. I never was crazy about that name, either, always preferred the RS/RL badging. Let me say again that is a spectacular effort. Congratulations.
  6. Spectacular, particularly the engine decal. Question arises, though: where are the Value Liner emblems?
  7. Here's a fire department tanker. No power steering, though....oooomph. http://maine.craigslist.org/hvo/5076967228.html
  8. I'm not sure air ride would work well with a single axle dump. Aside from that, either one of those looks very nice. Here's another one in Vermont with only 147k, price not shown though..... http://nh.craigslist.org/hvd/5064162751.html
  9. That is just plain sweet. Love the hubcaps, too.
  10. I drove one that had that seat. Just the ticket for a quick nap.
  11. Love the angled gauges, haven't seem those for a very long time. You've sure gotten good usage out of that rollback.
  12. Would love to see some detailed pics of it when you get the chance.
  13. Very very nice job on this B. It'll be a shame, though, to put that crummy old dump body back on.....unless you've had plans for that too.....
  14. That thing looks great. And there's nothing like a little diesel smoke to get you in touch with the true meaning of life, I always say... :-)
  15. A turbo is a fairly effective muffler on its own. A non-turbo has the potential to be pretty raucous, unless you like that type of thing (which I don't). A straight-piped 237 makes about the sweetest sound ever IMHO.
  16. Nice little R. Probably a 237 by the looks of the breather. Twin horns. Lund visor. Single axle. All this translates to a great hobby truck.
  17. Always amazing to me how helpless a bobtail is in the snow.
  18. It's still in use periodically. I once considered going to work for them just to get a crack at driving that, but they are not much in the pay department.
  19. OK, seeing as we've broken through the Detroit curtain on the Mack site, allow me to post my favorite shifting video. This guy's secret is not only in the shifting, but most importantly in the way he uses the throttle. NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS of the throttle results in a very smooth technique.
  20. Beautiful bulldog. What is the escort vehicle? We don't have anything like that in the states...
  21. I initially felt bad when you were going to remove the fifth wheel. But that red body with aluminum inserts (diamondplate?) between the ribs will really dress up that RS. Could be a stiff ride for the vets, though--watch for those speed bumps!
  22. My pleasure. it's easy enough to do--just cut and paste the youtube url into your message and you're done. I'm enjoying your posts.
  23. Gawd, aint' that sweet. Never driven an F model, always wanted to. Looks like it even has an Eldorado seat. :-)
  24. Very nice find. I've always thought a 237 with a quad would be a lot of fun. You split only when you feel like it. Not to mention that from a historical standpoint, the 237 was a trend setter and probably Mack's finest effort. As far as the quadbox is concerned, that setup must have been used for a while in its former heavy-tractor duty. You'll be fine with it.
