That is a great looking truck, and it is even cooler to see them out still dragging things around. I have seen the Brockway that 66dc75 posted pictures of on 128 NB the last two mornings around 5:45 AM around Waltham, and it indeed was pulling a refer. Small world I guess. Andy

It's definitely a bummer when places like that go out of business, it gets harder and harder to find quality craftsmanship with limited options. I got an American autowire universal kit for the truck, I'm impressed with it although I haven't installed it yet. I put a painless kit in my AMX and it was ok, but it was expensive and to me not as well engineered. Andy

I had looked at that manual, and it shows the front and rear as using the same seal. I got the number off the front seal and ordered two from NAPA, then I took the rear apart and couldn't find it. I guess that manual shows a later version with a traditional seal. Unfortunately, I don't work on stuff like this very often, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks, Andy

Thanks for the advice guys, I ended sending the chrome to Paul's , it is due back this Friday so I will be posting the results. It appears that Browns plating went out of business a while back. I got some weatherstrip installed in the truck, as well as some of the glass. I found NOS vent window assemblies on eBay, as well as the 5 marker lights. I also was able to get new air horns from Grover. My friend finished body working the visor, and we painted the dashboard, visor, and grill shell. I was able to get the dashboard layout done and painted as well as the heater box rebuilt. It definitely has been going slow, but there has been some progress, I hope to get the cab almost completely assembled before dropping it on the frame which unfortunately won't be until spring. I'm swapping the Spicer 8341-c auxiliary transmission in my IH, and in the process I need to swap the rear driveshaft flange. I figured I would replace the seal, but there doesn't appear to be one. Is this possible? I'm I missing something? I included a picture of the back of the transmission with the speedo housing and flange removed, as well as pictures of the speedo housing and flange. Well, I dropped a couple of test emblems off at a local plating company and the results were beyond disappointing. The guy told me he would try to do it again, but there was no way he had the talent or ability so I paid and took my parts. Then I looked over the quote I got from Paul's again and decided to bite the bullet and send the stuff off to them. I sent them the nicest stuff I have and they basically told me that there was no way to repair some of the damage, but they will do the best they can. Probably gonna be a couple months to get them finished too..... Have I mentioned that this project has spiraled out of control? I should be able to come up with some pictures this weekend, I've got some stuff for the cab put together. Thanks, Andy

Fxfymn, have you used Paul's chrome in the past? I'm looking for a shop to do some emblems (pot metal) and some of the steel hood latch components for my truck. It is a very nerve racking process to select shop that I can't reasonably travel too, and then the process takes so long, and it seems so expensive. It's one of those things were if you look long enough you find a bad review for every shop out there, so you can't be too sure about anyone. I don't mind paying the price for a good job, but I would hate to waste money on a job that is not well done. Andy

Thanks guys, everybody has been telling me the white was a bad move. I'm trying to match the grey trucks build as much as possible, and that truck was originally Alpine White, the grey exterior was done later. So white it is, I admit it is brighter than I was expecting. I'm very happy with what is happening, but I wish it was going a little faster, and costing alot less $. Does anyone have a good source for getting pot metal emblems restored? Andy

I also got the radiator re-cored as well as the heater core, unfortunately they both really needed it. Then I had to press in new bushings to every piviot point in the shutter assembly. What a pain in the ass that was. Sal and Tim at Seabrook truck were able to track down a new actuator and shutter-stat for me as well. So the shutters will once again be functional, I just need to sand them and get some top coat laid down. Currently, I'm trying to get the door glass, weather stripping and vent windows sorted out, but finding the correct seals appears to be impossible. Repop parts can be such a disappointment sometimes. The bracket is for the windshield visor which my friend is doing the body work to. All I had to do is give up half my garage for 10 months and I get free body work on a 1'x5' piece of metal, but the good news is that his 55 is coming along very well. Andy

Okay guys, I'm not sure if anyone here really cares about being updated on this project, but here goes. So, I had an incredible summer with work, my job kept me working many hours and away from home. Beyond that I was able to get almost all of the metal work done on the cab, but with little time I was forced to farm the body and paint job out. This was a good thing, as they finished the job in a month, and it came out a thousand times better than if I would have attempted it. Andy

It looks like they did a top notch job. Its never fun paying the bill, but it definitely easier when you pick up a truck that looks as good as that.

I'm fixing up an off-brand truck and i just got the cab back from the body shop. I'd like to know what you guys use when bolting mirrors, grab handles, etc to freshly painted sheet metal. On cars I've done in the past I've used 3M 08578 strip call with good success. Just wondering if I'm better to get a sheet of Teflon or rubber and cut some gaskets. It looks like the last guy put some duct tape in there. That appears to have worked ok, but I'd perfer something with a little more "seal" to it if that makes any sense. Thanks, Andy
