Hello.

I could use help identifying and possibly locating a few parts for our broken trunnion shaft. I have had multiple parts stores and yards looking and have been unsuccessful.

Part of my struggle is being what to actually call the suspension design as a whole. And then the related components.

What I need is a trunnion shaft, 1- threaded nut (3-5/16”x12 tpi), 1 bronze/brass washer, possibly 2 trunnion hanger brackets.
( am not certain if I have the correct names of these parts. So help me out please.)

I have pictures to help this process. But could only load 2.

Any leads would be appreciated.IMG_1098.thumb.jpeg.225a4136c2888f8e32f0cddcd8e5655d.jpeg

Doesnt look like the Camelback suspention on our Mack. The shaft end nuts are wrong and the shaft hanger on our Mack splits in half, not wraped around the trunnion shaft.Yeah need to know what truck it came off...

Any tricks to getting pictures on here? I am not having much luck with that either.

Two ways: First is the free Postimage.com website. Follow the directions, I know this works from a desktop, but not sure about from a phone??? Second is to join BMT.. Send Barry the $75(??) dollars and the system will work for you.

Here is another picture. It answers some of everyone’s questions. It may be a trailer suspension. If so, how to identify it?  It has 4” wide springs and looks like Mack axles to me. It does have bronze bushings for the spindles.IMG_1091.thumb.jpeg.358e777fbffb042032b6b961a267980e.jpeg

having that heavy suspension, be interesting to see what the trailer looked like. did a clever job to cover /seal the banjo. have to wonder if wheel bearings were changed to grease or filled the banjo with gear oil. rear bull gear usually did the movement to circulate oil to wheel bearings. low use trailer ;  oil in hub was good enough ??

If bearings are oil lubed, would’nt it take alot more oil to fill? terry:MackLogo:

Definitely an old Mack rear bogie. 10 bolt carrier mounting pattern. Off an L-model or early B-model. Had those "elephant ears" attached to the chassis and the trunnion brackets attached to them. By the bolts which were cut by torch.

My guess the only way is to check out junk yards with really old Mack stuff. But those trunnion axles tend to be rusty where they (are supposed to) spin in bronze bushings due to long gone seals. So if even the right setup would be found there are very high chances on need of heavy rebuild of the shaft ends and the bushings. I've done that for my truck.

Those brearings were also grease filled. At least that's what I have in my NR-model of 1945. Jack shaft end caps (removable flanges) have extra seals fit inside which separate ends of the axle housing tubes from the bearings cavity and gear oil can't go there.

I ran a "dummy" rear axle as a tag. I left the center section in place (to keep grit out and to add strength to the housing. Greased bearing and axle caps. Over 100K mile like that with no problems. Then I swapped out the center and made a full tandem again. Grease does just fine.

Looks like Vlad has the answer as to why none of recognized those hanger pieces.
