MAYBERRY TRUCK SHOW

[1961H67]

Took the LTH to the Mayberry truck show in Mt Airy NC , Great Weather and it was for a good cause Brenner Children's Hospital. There were a lot of newer trucks and very nice custom trucks ,But the few old Mack’s were still a draw with the crowd. Dawson answered questions for hours about the LTH , surrounded by Peterbilts!  Several B Models, 3 Superliners and a R700 with a factory V12 Detroit.

Looks like a good time. I remember that blue R700 from last year's Greensboro show. I was surprised at how quiet that thing was compared to the GMC (?) that had a 2 stroker in it. My brother isn't into trucks like me but he was enjoying how weird those things sound compared to everything else he's heard!

I had to miss this show again. Seems im busy when these shows come up. Just like the Colfax show..  Hell, I even missed Spencer N.C. shows, and its 5 miles away...  When my '48 is on the road, things will be different.. just sayin' and now that I own a rare C-10, I have another show truck.

It’s definitely difficult to find time to make all the shows, it’s been a busy summer and we have had something every weekend for a month, The Colfax show is the same weekend as the Cherokee show ( 10-25 ) I’ll probably go to Cherokee if weather permits it’s a lot closer for me. And yes I missed you at Spencer it was a good show also.

I am planning on Cherokee also. Probably will not take the Diamond T?? That way I do not have to be as early and stay as long. Also will not need an expensive motel room in the area!!!

We thought about going to Mt. Airy, but that's as far as we got. Zina was volunteering at the Concord Volunteer Rescue Squad's fund raiser. They sold Brunswick stew and hot dogs. 

Stew is going for $10 a quart now, and all this was pre-sold.

Zina was steaming the hotdog buns.

We're hoping to make the Colfax show, it's one of our favorites but one that something always seems to come up so we can't go. It's been weather most times, but one year we were all ready to go when we realized that we had already missed it, we were a week late!

I've never been to the Cherokee show. Took some long bridge girders down there on steerable dollies one time. But, it's almost 6 hours from here, and Colfax is a little over 2 hours, so Colfax it is.

Is the V12 R700 a triaxle tractor?  There is a blue one that i have seen before, but its a short tandem.

I am about 6 of one to a half dozen the other.. It is a long 4 hours to either. But half of our chapter is going to Cherokee!!

This one is the same that I've seen, says Sowers on the doors and is a triaxle.

That blue high binder in Mt. Airy looks fantastic! I saw a bright yellow GMC in a picture on another post that looked good too. My next door neighbor when I lived in Gladys went, he has a blue and white cabover KW.

It was a good show, I’m glad there were some older trucks in the mix, The Blue R700 belongs to Rick Sowers , he’s in the grading business. I don’t think he uses it , maybe at one point though, it has a drop axle. A machine co bought it new in Marion NC . Yes he also has a Big Horn and the yellow 55 GMC with a Detroit . Here’s a few more pictures, there were about 300 trucks, lots of custom,Pete’s and KWs .

I am glad they finally attracted some Antique / Historical vehicles.. I have never driven the long 4 hours up to that show as I had heard it primarily caters to  the Show and Shine crowd. Our chapter VP, Jack Ledford, always goes up.

Yes lots of Chrome and fancy paint, but it’s open for any model and year , that just makes the old Mack’s more popular there, The 55 LTH was a hit because it was customized in 1973 , It was fun giving a history lesson.

Yes, I always thought the same thing. Zina asked me one time if I'd ever been to Louisville, and I said "no, that's mostly for chromed out plastic trucks, I can ride around the truck stop parking lot and see plenty of them".

I've never liked the mega chrome crowd, especially the stretched frame, low-riding ones. I can only see that making it harder to drive the darn thing, but what do I know, I'm a parts guy.
