Just got a 1977 U model

Just got a 77 U model and looking for some info and guidance 

Does anyone know how or where to find parts to put power steering on the old girl?   Also looking for any body parts and cab repair ideas as well. Thanks

Excellent I have 2 body panels you might need … poke around on line for power steering parts thier kinda scarce but still available

While you are working on finding PS parts. Jack the front wheels off the ground and grease the hell out it. Turn the wheels side to side and grease it some more. lf you are only going to use it as a hobby truck l would leave it alone. l had four trucks with manual steering and didn't have any problems.    .....Hippy

be interesting to know actual model ; U -???? T. rear hubs 6 spoke not 5 ?  dry air cleaner .  profile shows R-487p. R model small diesel ?

Welcome to BMT.Love your truck.Has it got 24 inch rims? Seen that its 6 stud if it 24 in rims tyres could be a bigger problem than PS parts!!!! Anyway enjoy and keep us updated on your progress.

There is a guy just over in New York that has trucks he sells parts off and how about that guy on up that has lots of b model parts Kevin he has lots of stuff you better get up to the Hartford truck show on the 31st you can get some leads off guys up there.

a 487 might be a scania engine.   terry

One guy on here said to turn the wheels all the way left and grease it there, then all the way right and grease it there (with it jacked up as you say). Seems to make sense.

And yes, hippy has the right idea. I drove an R model for two years without power steering and a F model they’re not that bad…. Unless of course that’s what you want … everything run you around 2 Gs from what I’m seeing… depending on where you are gotta throw another $1000 in for shipping good luck

That was my sons job to turn the wheel before he could barely see over the steering wheel every Saturday morning. Didn't know it was the start of his career as a diesel mechanic. lol    .....Hippy

My profile R 487p. Is my coal delivery truck. It does have a scania engine with an automatic trans.

The u model does have 6 spoke hubs but 11r22.5 tires all the way around.

Thanks for all the feedback. Love this community and helpful suggestions. I will be jacking her up and greasing everything to see if that makes the difference I’m looking for.
