As far as wet liners only goes.... When I did the ENDT 673,  i welded beads in the liners, and dressed the 2 dogs with a bastard file, (they had already pulled a couple dozen liners by this point). There are 2 different sets of dogs. So you can check each one to see which one wont score the counter bore.  I have also added a shaved washer behind the dogs to get a stronger bite that doesnt allow the tool to pop off the edge of the liner.  When welding beads, i suggest opposing vertical welds with spacing between them that is wider then the legs on the puller. High horizontal beads will push the legs inward causing the dogs to slip..  jojo

glad to see the topic interrupted by "wet/dry" liners !! almost got tempted to ask .NOW which one is this engine dealing with??  dry with honing the sleeve may be removed a number of times : to obtain a perfect fit.all 6 - could be involved.

rent/borrow a tool ?

Just now, Joey Mack said:

Yes..  ive seen them years ago, but never used one. Did the crank have to be out to use it ?

NO ;rotate to put crank journal at lowest point. bottom plate was slotted  on threaded rod. slanted going in liner leveled out at bottom.  covered most of liner bottom. adjustable three legged top. didn't get involved with Mack wet liners.only stand out was the experimental 866 in the FL700.

started at Baskin with the DD 8v's , wet liners were the thing. didn't understand how a small o-ring did the job! LOL

I started out on E-7's.. then all the ones afterwards. All Wet Liners.. I was taught to be very particular about setting new liners.. My Mentor Earl made sure I understood why procedures mattered..

Ok... I think im stepping on Larry's post now..

All the Cat engine overhauls in the truck I used a wooden block and a bottom plate and a bottle jack with a long pump handle, so I didn't get an antifreeze shower when I popped up the liners. Wore out threaded rods doing Mack liners I can't remember how bad the sleaves came out of the old 318 DD engines did them too

Now if you cast your memories back a week or so and Vlad shared a link to his Lanova motor getting rebuilt

The whole block went in the normal smallish shop press to press sleeves

Can this motor be flipped over amd just press the sleeves/liners out

Me thinks so

Crank isn't out to be able to press them out that way.  Not that I haven't thought of removing crank.  I also thought of having block hot tanked, new cam bearings, etc.  Be nice and clean for paint!!  I could have shop remove and install new liners?  Might make a call?  Not sure I want to hear the price!!!!!  I have a local place that does truck engines.
