I have 2 fridges, elec. stove. 900w microwave, 2 T.V.'s on at all times, 110v well pump, 2 security systems, and 7 pairs of LED spot lights around my house and buildings. My Cheapass 7500 watt Harbor Freight (Steady running power) not Surge power, generator works great. I have a small Natural gas heater that is self contained, so I can shut my gas pack off to ease the load on Genny.. I believe you have a pellet stove for heat, so that helps.. Joey Mack Posted January 2, 2023 Share Posted January 2, 2023 Bob, We lost power last week due to a wire fire on our lines.. here is my house on Generator, and there is a picture of a plug that My electrician installed for me. $250.00 parts and labor for it.. Joey Mack Posted January 2, 2023 Share Posted January 2, 2023 Your welcome... The generator is around $800.00 here, I have a short 10g 4wire harness with twist lock 4 pin plug ends.. It's easy.. I just hook Genny to the house that way.. By the way,, the small covered box on the top left corner of my panel is the input for Genny.. Take the inner cover off and look.. neutral and ground may be together on the ground buss, and red and black should be feeding the breaker. Its a clone of a Lister CS single cylinder diesel. Its rated at 8hp at 650 rpm. I will be turning a 6kW Allis Chalmers generator head originally meant to be driven off the belt pulley of a tractor. Its a 4 pole head so I will need to speed it up to 1800rpm for 60hz power. Its all really just a fun fabrication and design project. I will have an insane amount of money into it just to put out a measly 6kW. And it wont be all practical since it will be so heavy and stationary. I think the bare engine is around 1100 pounds. I figure another 1000 pounds or so for the I-beam skid I am going to build and the generator head. For standby power now I have a little vintage 3500 watt Kohler with a Briggs engine on it that puts out 220V I can back feed my panel with enough to run my natural gas furnace, the refrigerator and a few lights.
