  1. how sad low numbered units never were important then . a unit came in for a repair= you repaired it and it left. might look twice at an unusual set up but then it left. spend time 50=60 yrs later wondering how many of those "unusual" I had access to ;; if any. . Darn!!
  2. to combine forums ;; THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR,..
  3. Jojo will sent you the wrench and stuff. my days of using are over. talk soon = hope.
  4. sure hope now that this beautiful masterpiece is done it doesn't go to a "back burner " and is forgotten on these forums . we still need a mental boost every now and then for moral support to forge onward with other projects,
  5. never realized in the late '70's the twin steer was there in the '50's. how was anyone supposed to know about record keeping and picture taking would have been SO IMPORTANT today. darn
  6. Jane F--- was a turn coat and C--t , please tell Your Father from east coast a very emotional THANK YOU!
  7. I have an 1 1/4 box wrench with slot cut in it to loosen the valve body on pump. hand pump going to watch fuel flow till it stops. among the many things confusing me today is the new designations of E-6/7 /8 /9 whatever. a 237/ 675/688 were just that. word of caution to you "young folk" when you are over the hill and turn around the hill is very Fu-- in high.
  8. Your NOT weak on that knowledge Jojo ;; you haven't got to that chapter yet. trudge on YOU CAN do it.
  9. in the good days it was the ONLY way. boy how i miss those days and glad I'm out of circulation today, gotta go think jack Daniels has taken over the mind set.
  10. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE ; SIR ''late '60's were to me the end of the world. as a young farm boy never knew or saw such unrest in a country ,
  11. THANK YOU . I received a thumbs up from lady passing me on highway today; believe it was response to back window of my jeep which states NEVER FORGET OUR VETERANS FOR WHAT THEY HAVE GIVEN. all gave some '' some gave ALL,
  12. THANK YOU ALL for positive response to our military hero's.
  13. My Brother served in viet nam ' I never talked /discussed it. I'm 13 months younger, sadly as I have stated in other text did NOT serve in the military . not a draft dodger but medical unfit. I highly recommend listening to Red Skelton's narration of the Pledge of Allegiance. a wonderful man speaking such a strong message. you younger folk missed so much. Red was a real comic back in the day and didn't have to use the F -bomb to make people laugh. I would bet people like jeff foxworthy and others used Red Skelton as a mentor.
  14. want to take a moment to thank ALL Veterans for their service . and to remember Those whom made the Alltimate sacrifice so we may have the freedoms we now have. see a Veteran tomorrow and any day , give them a salute and a Thank You. at a diner or where ever buy Them a coffee. 🎖️🏅
  15. maybe the 31 number stuck in my head from working at baskin robbins ==31 flavors :LOL for 34 years. 56gts ;;darn that's alot. another one of those things didn't realize back then info I should have memory banked.
  16. also seeing his truck is an '88 R690 vs a '75 R685; that type of yr spread anything possible. for original question == it's all ok run it .
  17. noticed location (AK) and spreading lime. could be the closer model number is a RS/RL western, making things like rockwell rears more do able .
  18. I never knew the relationship between oil pan size and number of oil filters. for a while Mack had the huge oil pan total was 31 qts ; 3 filters ??
  19. rackin my brain on this one ; should remember . question I have is the rating on the rears 34k /44k and so on. can't remember a round tube in 55k class. 34's with lighter spring set up and rubber bushings ?? I know as stated other vendors made "mack" parts. 92/93 carriers ; going with the R 685 is an R685st . are both units same gvw rating ?
  20. I think we are brother-in-laws.I know my wife has a sister but maybe she has two. does your wife have a sister (my wife ) . sounds like something my wife would ALSO do, LOL
  21. another sad situation of so called progress. I always bought the aeroquipt hoses in a roll and cut /made my own with reusable fittings(providing they were still good). original fittings were a three piece assembly ; which required a tool to assemble (large philips screwdriver at times) . newer ones became a two piece unit = much easier. challenge was not to peel inner lining of hose. the feed/return lines for Mack canister oil filters were never a problem THEN . things change = tooo bad the changes weren't for the positive.
  22. darn fancy set up for a rigging co having all the chrome and alum. basically it's a triaxle dump set up having a HD flatbed instead of dump. being an "ole dog lover", takes a while for me to "warm up "to new. R's taking place of B's wasn't bad; valueliner /superliner replacing R took getting use to and so on. these new models discussed even on here are a challenge. point is that's one fine looking Mack = the plastic round design will take some adjusting to . LOL just my thoughts.
  23. besides the $$$ main difference is ::what is the unit going to be used for. ??? bronze/ brass always better then rubber . even in the "dinosaur days" cam bushings were bronze vs plastic. maintenance also plays a major part in vehicle set up.
  24. the learn as you go mind set is what makes a good mechanic . books can teach ; doing has a better result (sometimes) .. with chances of remembering .
  25. no QR you may have slow response when releasing the brakes= whole purpose of QR just as it says ==quick release.. total over haul of brake system with all the newer up dated valves it is possible one of the relays/ anti compounding valves may double as QR.
