  1. So at first glance what looked like 1 or 2 broken liners is piston aluminum build up (melted ? ) on the liner toward the top. It separated from the liner when I scraped it.
  2. Fred, you are a wealth of knowledge ! This power tower is just as you said ! 3 extra holes with Allen plugs in the hole. Wow. Never knew. what came first the Ambac or the United Technologies v pump. See attached pics of power tower.
  3. The head bolts appear to be ok. I guess I could put a torque wrench on them and apply pressure to see if they move ? I did get a pump with the engine. It’s a United Technologies pump. I hope my running engine isn’t something that serious ? Zero smoke at idle. Just black if you step on it. Here is a pic of the pump. And the liner on that bad hole is broken.
  4. For the record I forgot to state that this head & short block are an e9 450 1989 block no 9L 0364
  5. Bob, no shrapnel. Just melted aluminum lol. The rings miraculously stayed on the piston. Most of the piston top circumference was stuck to the head but separated off pretty easy.
  6. Bob, PAI quoted me an e9 inframe kit a month ago. $9700. At the time they were waiting on some items for complete kits. Minor things but should have them 100% now.
  7. Fred, Iam not sure how long it ran. I just picked up the engine yesterday for parts. The head looks ok so far after pulling the pieces of piston off it lol. Here’s a pic of the head that was on the broken piston/liner. I will continue stripping the engine tomorrow. Not sure if you saw my message I sent you on my truck and rad psi issue ?
  8. Dropped valve seat & broken liner and piston. These issues were not on the same engine. I am interested in what caused the piston/liner ? thanks
  9. That’s what I was thinking. I have an 89 now. Obviously has the Ambac V pump. I am waiting on pics. And yes as soon as I see the engine it will tell all if I see a P7100 on steroids lol. I had an 84 back in the late 80’s early 90’s. It’s just that everything that seems to be etched in stone gets upended by something Mack did a bit different on occasion. Like axle housings, mine are 44’s but built by Hayes Dana, Mack spec.
  10. I am looking at three Superliners all have E9’s. The two 88’s that were ordered together have 450’s. The 90 has a 500. Can anyone tell me when the Bosch inline pump replaced the Ambac V pump ? The guy that has them thinks they are all inline pumps. I believe the 90 could but unsure about the 88’s. I have read some blogs stating that the inlines found their way into some 88’s & 89’s but unsure. Waiting for definitive pics to see if in fact they are inline and if so could they be factory or converted. Thank you
  11. Thanks, I appreciate it ! I just found this. It would be nice it there was a spot on this site to upload manuals and documents. Other sites that I am a member of you can upload manuals for all to use.
  12. Thanks, I appreciate it. How did you determine or cross that over ?
  13. Hello, This is a suggestion that I think would benefit everyone on this site. On other forums that I am a member of there is an area where members can upload and share service manuals, repair and rebuild manuals etc. It is a great resource for all Just a suggestion Thank you,
  14. I am trying to definitively determine my Superliner’s front spring/ axle rating. I have attached a number of pics. I have been getting conflicting answers. Please see attached pics. If you zoom in the No. 815210311 is also on each side. Thank you
  15. I have fuel to the pump. The lift pump is working, thus the auxiliary drive gear is working as well. I already pulled the lift pump to check that and videoed the auxiliary drive working. IMG_3500.mov
