  1. So at first glance what looked like 1 or 2 broken liners is piston aluminum build up (melted ? ) on the liner toward the top. It separated from the liner when I scraped it.
  2. Fred, you are a wealth of knowledge ! This power tower is just as you said ! 3 extra holes with Allen plugs in the hole. Wow. Never knew. what came first the Ambac or the United Technologies v pump. See attached pics of power tower.
  3. The head bolts appear to be ok. I guess I could put a torque wrench on them and apply pressure to see if they move ? I did get a pump with the engine. It’s a United Technologies pump. I hope my running engine isn’t something that serious ? Zero smoke at idle. Just black if you step on it. Here is a pic of the pump. And the liner on that bad hole is broken.
  4. For the record I forgot to state that this head & short block are an e9 450 1989 block no 9L 0364
  5. Bob, no shrapnel. Just melted aluminum lol. The rings miraculously stayed on the piston. Most of the piston top circumference was stuck to the head but separated off pretty easy.
  6. Bob, PAI quoted me an e9 inframe kit a month ago. $9700. At the time they were waiting on some items for complete kits. Minor things but should have them 100% now.
  7. Fred, Iam not sure how long it ran. I just picked up the engine yesterday for parts. The head looks ok so far after pulling the pieces of piston off it lol. Here’s a pic of the head that was on the broken piston/liner. I will continue stripping the engine tomorrow. Not sure if you saw my message I sent you on my truck and rad psi issue ?
  8. Dropped valve seat & broken liner and piston. These issues were not on the same engine. I am interested in what caused the piston/liner ? thanks
  9. That’s what I was thinking. I have an 89 now. Obviously has the Ambac V pump. I am waiting on pics. And yes as soon as I see the engine it will tell all if I see a P7100 on steroids lol. I had an 84 back in the late 80’s early 90’s. It’s just that everything that seems to be etched in stone gets upended by something Mack did a bit different on occasion. Like axle housings, mine are 44’s but built by Hayes Dana, Mack spec.
  10. I am looking at three Superliners all have E9’s. The two 88’s that were ordered together have 450’s. The 90 has a 500. Can anyone tell me when the Bosch inline pump replaced the Ambac V pump ? The guy that has them thinks they are all inline pumps. I believe the 90 could but unsure about the 88’s. I have read some blogs stating that the inlines found their way into some 88’s & 89’s but unsure. Waiting for definitive pics to see if in fact they are inline and if so could they be factory or converted. Thank you
  11. Thanks, I appreciate it ! I just found this. It would be nice it there was a spot on this site to upload manuals and documents. Other sites that I am a member of you can upload manuals for all to use.
  12. Thanks, I appreciate it. How did you determine or cross that over ?
  13. Hello, This is a suggestion that I think would benefit everyone on this site. On other forums that I am a member of there is an area where members can upload and share service manuals, repair and rebuild manuals etc. It is a great resource for all Just a suggestion Thank you,
  14. I am trying to definitively determine my Superliner’s front spring/ axle rating. I have attached a number of pics. I have been getting conflicting answers. Please see attached pics. If you zoom in the No. 815210311 is also on each side. Thank you
  15. I have fuel to the pump. The lift pump is working, thus the auxiliary drive gear is working as well. I already pulled the lift pump to check that and videoed the auxiliary drive working. IMG_3500.mov
  16. Checking to see if anyone here has a manual on the Ambac E9 V8 injection pump ? Type APE 8VBB110Q6418B1 (313CC4362P1) The E9 engine service/rebuild book does not get into any detail on the pump. Thank you.
  17. It’s not filling the primary or secondary filter all the way up. So it’s not getting to the pump.
  18. Ya, it’s just really weird that it was running like a bear. Sits for 8 hrs starts right up and quits. You don’t think anything in the pump let go ? It’s definitely not pulling fuel now.
  19. So forgive me if the answer to my problem has already been addressed, but I have searched extensively and can’t find anything. So this is the series of events. drove the truck home, it was running awesome. Shut it off at 9:30am. Then went out to start it at 5:30pm to move away from shop. It started instantly. But while building air it only idled for maybe a minute then stalled out. I tried to restart it and nothing. Definitely stopped getting fuel. Today I pulled the fuel filters and they were both down about an 11/2”. So it definitely starved for fuel, but why ? it has the Ambac pump, but it does not have a hand primer. I am stumped. Shut it off and it croaks. thanks in advance. It’s been 30 years since I worked on an e9.
  20. So I was finally able to get someone to measure it. I needed to see how big a well on an rgn was needed to haul it. So the magic no. Is 342” front bumper to rear of frame.
  21. So I have a dumb question. I don’t have access to anyone near the truck right now, hence my dumb question. The Superliner has a 252” WB and I am trying to get total length bumper to bumper. I am estimating 350” ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It has a center pull front bumper and the frame ends just 2-3 inches behind the rear axle. Thank you !
  22. Hello all, I am attempting to decode the block numbers from an E9 V8. The numbers I am referencing are the ones above the oil pan on the right side toward the front. They are on the machined surface. See the attached picture thank you !
  23. Fjh i set you a pm. I hope that’s ok. I am having a real hard time pulling up this site for some reason. Thanks
  24. Good morning, I am looking to possibly chat with someone on here that is really adept with the E9’s I know there are some guys on here that are really knowledgeable. Everyone I knew that was good with them have unfortunately long since passed. Any help is greatly appreciated ! Thank you
  25. Good morning all, So I have been looking for a Superliner (E9) for about 2 years now. In one way or another I have looked at close to 100 of them. I have just come across this field find. All I know right now is it is an e9 for sure supposed to be a 500 never cranked. Same owner since 1987. So 2 owner truck. 12speed mack. Supposed to be all Mack bumper to bumper. Neway air ride. 60” bunk, red interior and it is still roadworthy. Only drawback it’s an aluminum frame. I am guessing from the cab back. What concerns would you guys have with the frame ? If I am correct worst case is replacing rails from cab back. I have never had or driven a truck with an aluminum frame. The engine I am guessing should have the inline p pump. Also pm’s are welcome. Thanks and have a great day.
