I'm old with dementia '' don't have to remember LOL .. It's a post by Rubber duck 006. which I really enjoy reading . interesting to see the "younger generation " keeping tradition alive. THANK YOU Rubber duck for being on BMT.

oh yea now I remember same as the B model had !! what the f--. watched the news regarding the "self driving 18 wheelers . and I think the roads are dangerous now !!! see the mess I-95 is now in CT, will be CLOSED both directions TILL MONDAY . screw CT. let us not go off topic , HI Jojo 😅

A sensor for steering wheel tilt !!!!! what the heck . so glad I'm over the hill on final trip . If only the younger generation could see what they missed. glad the big rig is so far running properly and can turn the miles in to $$ for you.

in the day I have installed a number of the small bulldog on "rookie rods" . had a few "in stock "in personal inventory and gave them away when moving took place. the plastic models; B model service manuals; and so much more given / thrown away !! where's the crystal ball when you need it ???
-
once again it's proven " never too old to learn something new!!"... what was always called a fender guide is now known as a "rookie rod "" LOL. have to admit name rookie rod makes a lot of sense. I considered them more of a decoration.

unfortunately , looks as though your back to "square one" . kit you purchased can't be used . steering system isn't anything to modify . based on picture of original pin, the ugly pitted section fits the axle. not major issue IF THEY HAD TO BE REUSED . bushing ends aren't totally a loss. still need correct bushing . entire proper kit. -
the super tiny drill bits work well for number of projects. I have many which at a hobby shop or on line you can get the hand held drill bit holders. I have 3, one is a 0-. it goes to 0 lock the smallest bit made. works excellent on hand drilling model front axle king pins also . as Joey stated a torch tip cleaner is even better. variety of micro sizes and stronger. will clean carb ports ; unlike a tiny drill bit which may cut in to a port side wall,

B-73 Restoration
mechohaulic replied to mattb73lt's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
THANK YOU for update . question I was asking pertained to rear drive axle (15/16th ? ) nuts . with this unit better than most museum pieces , the axle nuts themselves are tarnished from air gun install. going in for red paint touch up or smaller nut chrome caps ? don't know as if I would want to "slap myself " with thoughts "it's mine "! my luck a slap would wake me up from a amazing dream to find out ; only a dream. not only a major positive reading/ watching this start to finish build ; most important the inspiration YOU have given so many to continue their builds. nothing on this build was in the ordinary. the B-73 / L cab not the usual B-61 etc; roll off bed not standard . perfect color red with no over kill on chrome. can really be pis--d off I can't make Deerfield ; dates are on my calendar for Bethlehem/ Brooklyn/ Macungie -

excellent page of reference ; I'm not sure they are all Mack axles although it is in a Mack manual ;; also considering fact I know I didn't work on or remember working on every one.!!. remember the king pin having a threaded top for adjustment (way back ).FA600 series -

the later straight pin kits have the larger bearing on bottom between spindle and axle which take the unit weight. reason for tapered lock pin through axle and king pin, -
FA505 kingpins
mechohaulic replied to Coulton's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
BUT look at picture #1 the original pin VS pin kit they have . the pins are BOTH tapered ; new pin tad shorter which looking at diagram cut away the pins go above bearing . the picture #4 is a pin kit photo supplied by BMT member NOT a correct kit for B model. straight pin having a tapered lock bolt is for much later axle. the tapered king pin should memory be correct is held from spinning in axle by weight on the taper of center section on pin. earlier tapered pin kits had the thicker bushing which required a reamer. -
to me that's pure ignorance. having something and not parting with it is one thing; to be cutting/scrapping forever gone parts for a couple $$ is crude. 2-3 K a piece ?? depending on what was cut up, don't think they got that much for whole pile. they could have been not so greedy and took couple hundred for parts and still been a head. so sad.

it took a few back post but I found the "guilty party "who initiated the FIRST mention of == phone ! and it wasn't me (not directly") this time. LOL

FA505 kingpins
mechohaulic replied to Coulton's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
another option to consider = is this a hobby/show truck ?:: are the diameters top and bottom of new pin correct with only length tad short , install bush, bearing, pin check top of spindle with top cap off, does the pin protrude past upper bearing ;;; I say go for it. are the original king pins that bad after a fluff and buff installed with the new bearing/bushing to where it would be a safety hazard driving?? -
FA505 kingpins
mechohaulic replied to Coulton's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
picture you posted =K506B shows a straight pin . original picture posted of pin removed is the tapered pin ; big bottom /smaller top . picture #3 of needed kit would/should be correct . 11/16th difference in pin length possibly another sign of product cut back. look at the diagram picture posted you notice top of pin does nothing once past the roller bearing. -

Any intrest in Mack B61 Model Kits in 1/25 scale?
mechohaulic replied to Barry's topic in Mack Scale Model and Diecast Corner
to have a B model or any model with opening hoods/ doors etc brings the model to a scale 5 . 1- it requires manufacture to create new molds, details forms. 2- brings the price way off scale. 3-let us all hope the B-model project takes hold . 4-many $$$$ are required for a manufacture to acquire legal rights from all parties. 5- to be top notch builder opening hoods /doors separate novice from ;;; well you know. at 72 , I've built models since they first came out (late 60's- 70's . -
it maybe just my thoughts; BUT I don't know how a basic question could be straight forward answered. there are way tooo many variables, the liquid being hauled ?? liquids have different weight factors == water vs fuel oil vs liquid waste and so on. CA to trunnion would indicate you are talking a twin-screw not single axle for starters. type of tank == 14 ft straight ends on tank or plumbing /hose reels etc would make a difference for weight distribution . based on your question AND NOT trying to sound as an idiot . a wheel base long enough to fit the tank . then secondly there is the area of where is this unit going to run === meet state axle weight / or a farm off road use and much more.
