  1. I drove an f cabover 237 5speed and I hated it. I also got stuck driving an old freightshaker that had air steering what a real thrill getting in off road job sites. There was a gravel pit or something to do with that work that was over by bud lake that had autocars with the biggest rears I ever saw had to be at least 58's. Underdog your not far from over there do you know where I am talking about?
  2. I am thinking that I should upgrade the air cleaner on my truck it is an oil bath without any stack on it b-42 style after putting this higher hp. engine in I think it should need more air flow. I looked at the air cleaner on watts sight and that would be ok but that is more than I really want to spend, any other ideas? I wan't to talk to the man that owned the yellow fancy b model tractor down at the mack show last month but he was rolling out when I seen him in his truck. I am open to any thoughts on this or offers of something I could use. Thank you
  3. To follow up on the door handle ordeal I ordered a set of the chevy handles on the mack ones the shaft is centered on the handle, on the chevy they are offset so I made new mounting plates and extended the square shaft they look better than the old ones. Some guy in Australia is selling chrome exchange ones for big bucks. I got 50.00 bucks in mine.
  4. Called a bunch of Vickers dealers and found out it is a flow control valve. What will that do for me on the steering? The only thing I can figure it lowers the flow at high rpm. so my steering will be less sensitive driving down the road? Any thought's? Thank you
  5. On the engine I bought it has a trw 8met b steering pump and mounted on the side of the oilpan just ahead of the pump is a vikers m 308 po40 valve that has marked on it in, return, feed. is this a flow valve or pressure valve? Thank you
  6. I am in the middle of doing that right now. mack is like the old chevy motors. I just swapped bellhousing and flywheel clutch right over. You have to use the old style front hub I am using the fan and pulleys and front motor mount off the old engine it goes right on my newer engine. do your self a favor and remove the crossmember the front motor mount sets on and the radiator lower crossmember I was able to just run the engine right out straight with my forklift very nice. For now I am going to run my duplex and see how it works out my eng is 260 hp. so I think I wave enough gears. I was working by myself so I removed the fenders off first if I knew how easy they came off I would of pulled the right one off when I changed the injection pump and air compressor. Good luck
  7. I pulled this engine out of my truck today I drove the truck down to the show sat. It has good injectors and a good injection pump I just had it worked on, I put rod bearings and rings touched up the heads. Best offer
  8. On the engine I just bought it has a air valve plumbed into the intake that runs a plastic line over to the front cover on the rack. Can I omit this setup we use to block off the older smoke valves. Thank you
  9. When I headed in they started a parade in front of me but I just inched through one young guy wanted to be a stain on my bumper but I guess there is one in every crowd. I think they should of cut us some slack I get where their coming from but I don't have a dog in the fight I just wanted to see some old macks.
  10. I enjoyed the show. I found that 855 mack engine in the sound deadening room interesting to bad they didn't put it in production.
  11. He is a real deal lover of single action colts and sharps rifles he does his own loading and he was involved in a gun repair shop.
  12. When I still had my autocar I had a spot light with an airplane spotlight beam in it when I turned that on boy did they hit their low beams. I l used it down in florida when it was really foggy I could see the edge of the road.
  13. I just bought the engine it was in a 1980 fire truck I was told it had low miles. I was looking at a 285 hp. 676 but it had water in the pan and it turned slow like it had rust in the cylinders and the owner of the junkyard wouldn't sell me the engine so we settled on this one.We settled on a deal for the engine and an air ride freightliner rear axle and 2 hub pilot high tread tires and 2 aluminum rims with good tires that should keep me busy in the shop most of the winter. My truck says b42 on the hood but it had the early 673 and the tr72 I figure it is just a straight 10 speed the way it shifts. I guess the truck has been altered. Dave the owner of the yard says all the mack stuff gets shipped to Africa. Summit core is the name of the yard in springville pa. I have been buying small stuff from him for 4 years and he has been fair on his prices.
  14. I have a chance to buy a freightliner air ride rear with 3.90 gears will this be geared to high for my b model? I am putting a 260 hp. 675 in and keeping the tr 70 duplex. Any thoughts? thank you
  15. I didn't sign up for the show now I think I can take my b down to it. If I show up on sat. will i be able to join in event by parking with the rest of the trucks?
  16. Franconi's used to bush front axles, they had a setup that clamped over the pin hole and pete would bore it out and press in a sleave then ream it out to fit the pin. The local ups used this on all the delivery trucks. It didn't hold up for more than 1 or 2 years. Pete and I always figured it was a real crappy fix but mikey bought the set up just for doing ups trucks. It didn't do anything over a 6 or 7 thousand lbs. axle.
  17. The air is piped through the cab. I had thought there would be a restriction with the old oil bath filter, I was going to fit up something larger. I do like to tinker I stuffed a 292 worked over chevy engine in a fj45 Toyota very tight fit.
  18. I got up today to look at the engine it is a 285 hp. tip turbine block plate states it is a 1979 engine but it also has a pedigree sticker on the rear valve cover and t676 and 4-85 . Will this fit under my hood with the intercooler mounted the way it is. The guy said he will start it for me on Monday. He has about 5 or 6 675s from real early on up and I seen 2 or 3 two stick trans laying around. I was wondering how heavy this engine would be I know my forklift will lift it but I'm just wondering.
  19. Yes I bought it with the 673 and 10 speed already in it. Do you have to modify the 673 bellhousing or flywheel?
  20. Thank you for getting back to me. IT's the larger trans that is for the diesel engine. Didn't I see pictures of you drilling on a flywheel on a boring machine was that for your truck?
  21. Hi I have a chance to get a low mile 675 engine I haven't seen the plate to tell what year but I want spin on oil filters. Now I am thinking about putting it in my b 42 to replace the old 673 .I am looking for info. on the whole job . I am going down to the mack show if anyone has this setup I would like to see it. I have a duplex will this work ok? I have pulled loads with the 675 and this is just a single axle flatbed it should run along fairly well. How bout you freightrain was there any little parts that was a pain to get?
  22. Thank you I tried the phone this morning and no good must of been some glitch in the system.
  23. Boy I hope so I have a 2 and 1/2 hour drive I would be pissed if I drove down there and nothing going on. How bought it anyone is it on? Thank you
  24. Years ago I got a call from a car repair garage that they took in an old 53 ford dumptruck and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with the steering so I took a look and the steering was so stiff it was worse than loosing your powersteering in a big truck. The owner and his father before him never greased the front end. That was one of the worse king pin jobs I had ever done. That family was something his sister bought a new Toyota car and never changed the oil she showed up at the garage and wondered why there was noises coming from the engine no oil !
  25. I read that someone stated outside handles from a 47-51 chevy truck is the same as my handles on my 58 b. My question is has anyone tried it and is there any other options other than having them rechromed. A few years ago I restored a 1934 vld Harley and the nickel and chrome was really expensive.
