  1. Is your air governor bolted directly to the air compressor? If so, sometimes whoever installed it may have neglected to remove a plug on the unloader port before they installed it. It happens. If the governor is remote mounted, the line back to the unloader port on the compressor is more obvious and harder to screw up. Dave
  2. Is this what you're talking about? This "LT" is built on a Western Star chassis, the sleeper was hand-built by Denver Truck Painting.
  3. If I remember right, I think you have to remove the grill shell and front fenders as an assembly, and then break it down after its off the truck. Unless I missed something too, it was not an easy job. Dave
  4. Regarding the truck show at Macungie, it is always the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Father's day, which would be the 18th, 19th & 20th this year. Another nice show is the "All Mack" show held at Gerhart Machinery in Lititz, Pa. It is always the first Saturday in October. Both of these shows just get bigger & better every year.
  5. As a rule, the more you personalize something the more you hurt the value. Your KW seems to be very tastefully done, but if you do things with re-sale in mind, the closer you stay to OEM, the better resale you will have. I see trucks out there that are highly customized, and the workmanship is outstanding, but the owners almost always take a big hit when they sell. It's OK to customize & personalize, but then just remember, it's your truck. As far as the reliability and life expectancy of the 350, it's all about good maintenance and good driver habits. Ther's a time to get in it, and a time to back out of it. I wouldn't expect the fuel economy to be much different than you're getting now.
  6. I agree with the others. We have an 88 Superliner, and we passed the $22,500 mark a long time ago. I don't think some people that have RW's realize what they have. I've been a Mack salesman for better than 15 years, and there is NO comparison. Don't pass up on that truck. And, oh yes, the 350 can be "tweaked" and get out there and run with the best. Dave
  7. I think Josh is correct in what he is saying. Here are a couple pics I snagged awile back.
  8. I took those pictures at Middletown, Pa near Three Mile Island nuclear generation plant. I think they are still there as of today (Thur the 15th). They are supposed to leave for Southern York County and on to Havre De Grace Maryland where the load will be transferred to a barge, and onto a railroad car to North Carolina. Here are a couple more detail pics, including one of the 16V lurking in under the hood.
  9. I dont know for sure, but I assume the axles were built in Plainfield NJ until that plant was closed and Hagerstown MD was opened. They may then have been built in Hagerstown after that. Maybe somebody else here knows for sure. I believe Dana started building "Mack" axles around 1985/86, (long after the M-series were discontinued in the mid/late 1970's) and more recently Meritor took over in the early 2000's. I do know the M-series trucks themselves were assembled in Allentown 5C until it was closed, and then in Macungie and Oakville Ontario until their final demise in 1979.
  10. After a couple trips in the LF, you'd probably want to park the CH and run it all the time, well, at least until the 100 degree days get here.
  11. Took these pictures over the week end near Three Mile Island. Bigge Crane & Rigging is getting ready to move this steam generator. The two Mack M45SX's are powered by 16V-71 Detroits, Allison transmissions and 140,000# Mack planetary axles. They just don't make em like this any more!! Dave
  12. You won't know how to act with no malfunction light on the dash
  13. Can't say for sure, but other axles in that "family" are rated at 20,000# Dave
  14. I don't ever get tired of listening to those
  15. What model transmission do you have? I didn't know there was any recent 15-1600 series 13 speeds that did not have overdrive. Dave
  16. Look at my gallery "truck pictures". back on page 2 or 3 is a nice hi-rez picture. Dave
  17. I agree with Rob, unless you plan on really abusing it, Mack built components always seem to be really conservatively rated, and I think going to the heavier trans would really be over-kill.
  18. E9-500 peak torque is 1660 lb ft @ 1300 rpms. Most E9's had Mack 9, 10 or 12 spds behind them. The E9's had a pretty broad operating range, but they are goverened at a maximum of 1900 rpms, so depending on rear ratio, you need something with a high overdrive ratio. We have an E9 with a 12 speed, 4.64 rear ratio, and 11R24.5 rubber and it runs easy at 65 mph, but 70 -72 mph it's pretty well stretched out. Dave
  19. We have Pennsylvania "Classis Car" registration, and Travelers (Gulfway)insurance on our Superliner. If you go onto the Penn DOT website, rules and restrictions are extremely vague at best, there really aren't any. However there are restrictions from the insurance carrier, 1) You may tow an owned trailer, & 2) You may haul an"owned" (truck or tractor?) load. From a state legal perspective, it appears that a "heavy" truck with a "classic car" registration is a very "gray" area of the law, and I don't know if you are subject to any weight restrictions, and I can easily assume commercial activity is strictly taboo. as well it should be. If anybody out there can enlighten me at all about any of this, I would appreciate it. It would be nice to see some more specific written guidelines. So far we have not taken the truck out of Pennsylvania, because I am not sure how other states view this type of registration, if you are treated like a commercial vehicle (weight restrictions, & fuel tax reporting & logs) or not. Dave
  20. I'm not sure what to do when you get to scales. Even when I'm driving new (on dealer tag)I always cross scales. I don't want some pissed off cop stopping me 'cause I "blew" the scales. That's interesting that you chastised for erring on the side of caution. But then again, in that situation I like being yelled at as long as they're telling me to keep moving, and get the ____ out of here!! Dave
  21. A T2070 trans has a 14.16 to 1 Lo-Lo. With 5.73 rears you might not be able to climb a tree loaded, but it should be OK for just about anything else. Dave
