Well I'm getting soft in my old age because it's the working and trying to keep the truck working in minus 40 that I am starting to hate, LOL.

I'm on night shift snow haul in the city. This is week three from when we started. I had posted pics of our snow dumps last winter. Last night I was talking to someone from the city works department and they said we hauled over 7 million cubic metres of snow last winter. That was just us hired trucks.....did not include the cities own trucks.

You bet! He kept it right to the end too and wouldn't let anyone have it.....so it ended up rotting right into the ground. My father always bought new Mustangs too. But up here with the salt....everyone used to drive their stuff year round not thinking those old cars were going to be worth something, so they all rotted away.

Hahahaha....that brought back memories. I had an uncle (now deceased) that used to put chains on a 69 Boss 302 and drive it in the winter, LOL.

I know my friend did it on an RB model and I don't think he had to do much. But there will be others here that will know better.

I have a friend that has a new Granite dump truck with the M-drive auto trans. He was telling me that any time the speed sensor malfunctions it derates to low gear and you cannot upshift it manually. he said he has tried manual mode, performance mode, etc. You are stuck in low gear until you get it to dealer. Is this true? Or maybe something that has not been programmed in or something? That alone would turn me off from ever buying one. I once delivered a truck for my dealer that had an Eaton AMT. The ABS light came on and it would no longer shift in auto...but it least it would in manual. But I hate those Eaton AMT's. They shift so rough. I'll stick to my trusty 18 speed or an Allison from what I have seen.

Engine Shutdown/electronic Malfuntion Lights

The mass ground point inside dash on driver side A pillar. Clean and check your grounds. At least that's what it was on my 2000 CH when I used to have it. Always had the malfunction light coming on and off and the truck randomly shutting off and starting right back up while driving down the highway. Dealer never could figure it out. They changed all kinds of harnesses and ecm. Was just the mass ground. Found out many years later. -
Smarter than Volvo marketing, LOL. They should hire Iam's dog food to market the Mack brand, LOL.

See the cylinder with the 2 air lines with the Drive Products decal on the bottom of the PTO. That is the air shift plunger. The back side is where that little keyway slide is and you can see if it is travelling. Get someone to go in the cab and get someone to shift it up and down and see how that is moving. In the old days it was open on the back so you could hit it with a hammer but now they all have that cover on them. You can also take the air lines off (and check for air supply) and remove those 2 bolts and slide cover off. There is a piston with o-rings inside. Make sure it is clean and lube it with some Krown or Fluid Film orsomething similar. That is assuming you can remove it. Sometimes the pumps are rotated to a different orientation on the transmission. I had one Freightliner Classic that I had to drop the PTO from the trans and drop the oil to get that plunger off. Not a fun job in the bush when you are working. Hopefully this helps. I suck at trying to explain stuff. -
I just saw a commercial for Iam's dog food on TV and it had a bulldog pulling a green Mack CH. LOL Somebody in their marketing department was smart enough to see the connection.

I'm still going to say check the air plunger for travel first. I've had to replace new ones because they were scorded inside. But yes, if new, will be warranty. I'll get pics later. Going out in a bit to get truck ready for tonight. Minus 25*C here, so gunna go clean the snow off the truck while the sun is out, LOL. -
These are the guys that pretty much "owned" the ice roads of northern Canada. They built and maintained them and controlled most of the trucking. The real ice road truckers, not the fake TV bullshit, LOL. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/tlicho-investment-corp-creditor-protection-1.5383266 This link shows all the companies they own: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/tlicho-investment-corporation-cleans-house-axing-17-of-its-companies-1.3710018

Do you have air or cable hoist control? If cable check adjustment. If air check the air plunger that is mounted on the PTO pump. Sometimes they get dirt in them and won't travel the full stroke. Sometimes a piece of dirt will score the inside of the bore thus allowing air to bypass. Sometimes the o-rings fail. -
Like I said to a friend of mine that worships all these new trucks and hybrids and stuff......I don't care how broke I am and how much fuel I'd have to buy, I just can't can't get excited over a box on wheels. I chose trucking because I like trucks that I grew up with. That means, hoods, stacks and external breathers.

Very nice score!! That's a real truck! -
[Operating costs and uptime are ensured by the maintenance-free and regeneration-free Tier 4 Final and Stage V aftertreatment solution, an SCR-only system based on longstanding FPT experience in SCR technology, requiring no need for maintenance over lifecycle nor any machine stop during operation for filter regeneration.]

Was looking at farm tractor stuff and came across this engine on the Fiat Powertrain agricultural engine web site. A 20 litre V8 with almost 900 h.p. and over 3000 ft-lb torque. What is interesting is it is tier 4 final stage V and it has no EGR or DPF and does not require regens. It is SCR only. https://www.fptindustrial.com/global/en/engines/agriculture/v20

https://www.thetruckersreport.com/chain-cannot-afford-late-says-swift-dispatcher/ That's the way we always did it. It's called your job. And we made it. And we made it back. The pussy-fication of society. Kill me now! I don't wanna be here any more. A whole planet full of spineless cry babies.

All I know is that is all factory original. I can't even remember what year that truck was. 76 or 78? There were a few around here that looked just like that.

Unfortunately I no longer own any International's but they are my favorite along with the pre-2000's Mack's. I have been trying to find an old Loadstar or something like that yellow one to use as my personal vehicle, but I ended up buying an F550 because I couldn't find anything around here that didn't need a ton of work. Those are nice.

And that's the whole argument they use to keep bringing more in and giving them licenses. This supposed "driver shortage." No, they can hire these people and "use and abuse" them to no end. They will do anything for any kind of pathetic pay. Don't matter if it is low pay or bad working conditions....they do it. And the industry takes advantage of that. They are modern day slaves. It's funny too, how hard they make it for you to renew your license with 4 pages of tests with trick questions, yet most of these people cannot even speak english and they all have licenses. It's almost like they WANT all the old professionals gone....you know the guys with 30 and more accident and conviction free years. You see a lot of these guys failing their tests just because they can't figure out the trick wording in a lot of the questions. Yet they have NEVER had an incident on the roads.

That is nice. I wouldn't change anything about that truck. Not even the colours.
