I can't find the video now, but I watch Zach Johnson's (The Milennial Farmer) vidoes on You Tube and he was just showing those Yankum tow straps. They seem to work a lot better than chains and regular straps.

Most legendary engine ever! I just laugh when you read the specs on paper.....500 h.p. and 1660 ft-lb of torque. Well I can tell you, my new 505/1850 motor won't go up our 12% grades at 140,000 pounds in high range on the 18 speed like the old 500 V8 did, LOL -

I'd like to see those if you ever catch them. Mines in quarantine, LOL Snow plow just went by again. This sucks. Finally got time off work and I can't even do any yard work.

I don't have to worry about lawn mowing season yet Rob, LOL This is I woke up too. This sucks. Everything shut down for corona and I can't even get anything done in the yard. You can see in the second pic there is actually a snow bank at the end of my driveway from the snow plow.

I just looked, because the winds here are the strongest we've had all winter and they are calling for big snow, but the Indiana Harbor is the only freighter on the lakes right now. And it's right out in the middle of Superior. I can't even imagine the waves that is taking right now.

Ok, makes sense. I know on this channel they have a speed limit for ships and you could always tell when they were above it. Then add two ships passing each other and it really made some effects.

Funny you mention that. I'm on the lake, but my aunt and uncle lived on the narrow part of the shipping channel before they get to the Sault Locks. And I used to see that. It was really freaky. Two ships would pass and the water would disappear from the shore. I still don't understand the science before it. I can see how they would increase the water level, but not how they pull the water out.

Yep, I can't understand drivers we have had. Wash the truck and make it all shiny and then you go inside the cab and it's an all out pig pen with holes drilled all over in everything.

When I was a kid I had an Ertl metal IH Loadstar flat bed truck with John Deere decals on it. Like a dealer delivery truck. So yesterday I thought about it and went online to see if I could find one. Holy! Any you can find are 300 to 400 plus dollars! Wish I still had all my old toys, LOL I do still have a metal Ertl International Transtar cab over with a Husky Oil tanker trailer that actual holds and pumps fluid. It is good for dispensing "ethanol" whiskey. LOL

I know they made some big 4WD sugar cane tractors and at the time they were having a lot of issues with their own engines and almost all of them were repowered with Detroit's. There are a lot of really cool old Allis Chalmers dealer videos on You Tube. For both their farm tractors and the motor graders. Allis Chalmers was another company like White Motor Corp. It is amazing how big and much stuff they were into. Everything from crushers to power generation. There is still Allis Chalmers crushers working in the slag processing area of our steel mill. -
Yep, change it. I had the purge valve fail on my brand new 2020. Then not long after the un-loader valve had to be replaced. They sure don't make parts like they used to.

Cool truck! Looks like a design copy of Simard's Dramis truck. Wonder if there was some kind of licensing agreement? Because they are both pretty much the same and Simard was first to market with those electronically-controlled hydro-pneumatic suspension. And they started making them with Mack Granite's. But now they can be had in any make. We have them in use in some of the mines around here.

It's amazing the lifespan of these ships when you look at their date of manufacture. Especially with the pounding they take going through the ice and the occasional running aground. I know it's not a job for some. I know people that worked on these ships when they were young and now you can't even get them to step on to a pleasure craft tied to the dock, LOL

Wow! I have never seen a Hough tracked loader. And I have a bunch of IH history books and have never seen that mentioned. I know mostly the wheel loaders and the Paylogger tree skidders were made in Quebec Canada. I have ran a couple Hough wheel loaders, a 65 and the 560. The 560 was strong. We used to use it to move the crushers and lift parts for the crushers.

I also saw a really good show on Discovery Science channel I think it was? I think it was that Mighty Ships show and it was all about the Paul R Tregurtha. I had lots of really cool footage and of it passing through the Soo Locks. I get to see all these big iron ore haulers because they all come to out steel mill. I think I have seen that oil tanker also delivering to the Sault.

Not to siderail this thread, but how is the latest Volvo equipment now as far as reliability Mack Tech? A big local quarry here has a bunch of the big 350 wheel loaders with the D16 engines and they said they have been electrical nightmares. Have they improved them any over the last couple years?
