It was supposed to be 2 weeks ago but they changed to June 1 , so it probably didn’t get on the web . Hopefully I can make it by 9:30 or so . 828 777 3406 is my cell.

  2. Thanks for the info Steve, I’ll give him a call, I got my shutters and the inside of the doors painted today, so if I can stay focused I’ll be ready for some fenders ( or repair mine) by the end of summer.
  3. Thanks for all the compliments, Yes we have plenty more stuff setting around to distract me from the LJ ,, Yellow truck in the background is one distraction, I sanded it lightly last fall and shot a coat of semi gloss clear over it, trying to keep it looking like the previous owner restored it in about 1973 , I will start a separate topic on it when I get some more pics and time ,, it has a great history. Going to try to paint my Shutters for the LJ tomorrow. ( here’s a better pic of the Yellow Truck, 1955 LTH )
  4. Got another day in ! A little progress!
  5. Matt , hope you keep posting updates on the 73 ,, that’s my inspiration! Especially since I’m seeing you drive it , that’s keeping me going on this LJ more than anything! Congratulations on all those views!
  6. I’ve been making a little progress this spring, Then Baseball Season got in full swing for my Grandson . Got some more parts blasted, primed. Trying to get a few hours in a week.
  7. THANKS for the Pictures,,, A good start to Spring!
  8. PM send about some L parts , Thank You
  9. I’m just glad the truck is getting saved so our younger generations can see it,Hopefully there are some kids that will appreciate it , My Grandson is all into old trucks and trains, he may have no desire for them when he’s older but he’s still been given the opportunity to know what built this Nation! Many Thanks to Gary for being able to save a piece of history!
  10. I just watched the video! Great,, I hope it gets restored !
  11. Vald , Thank you for the information. Hopefully I can make a connection about it, or another set of fenders , I’m making pretty good progress on the doors, I’ll keep chipping away.
  12. I think Dad might have had a book with some old pictures of North Carolina trucking company’s ,, I found these with some old pictures. Hopefully they will show up enough to read the caption. I promise I’ll stop chasing Rabbits! And get back on topic !
  13. Thanks for the Trailer sleeper pictures ! Unreal what those guys did back in the day compared to today’s trucking. The picture I have ( when I find it) had a small door in the left front, I’m unsure how they got in ,but it shows a guy laying in it with the door open and the driver standing beside it, I think it had some sort of a flag that if he needed to stop the driver could see it in the mirror. I even heard they tried a suspended rope system in the nose of the trailer at one point. I have never seen a picture of the one under the trailer! These all make the 24 or 28 bunks look like a King Size!
  14. A little more sanding, a little more priming,, beautiful day today.
  15. Great Reading! I think the sleeper mattress in my H Model is 24 inch,, but all those are better than the trailer with the sleeper in the nose, My Dad had a picture of one, I’m sure I could find it here somewhere . The old sleepers are interesting to me.
  16. I saw a YouTube video on this LJ ,, it was posted about 5 years ago. It looks like the truck was being parted out, the video may have been taken in NE Pennsylvania. If anyone recognizes it please let me know, Here is a screenshot of the video, Many Thanks. Dean
  17. I’m glad you answered his question, I remembered you having to repair yours.
  18. I bought a gallon, this is the brand. I have used aircraft stripper in the past, it also worked well, I don’t think any of them works as good as they used to ( probably took the “Good “ stuff out of it!)
  19. I never realized the doors had so many holes, I think it had another set of mirrors, I’m not a expert on “West Coast Mirrors “ but I don’t think they got popular until the late 50s . And I think the welding co that had it before we got it had warning signs on the doors ,,,anyway I’ll weld them up at keep going.
  20. This was the outcome after steam cleaning , now I have a bunch of small holes to weld up where another set of mirrors were installed. The paint stripper worked pretty good.
  21. Glad to see you making progress. I sandblasted the heavy/ thicker parts, bumper, grille guard, running boards , even the fenders, but I was afraid to do it on flat surface, so I’ve had pretty good luck with just plain paint stripper from the hardware store, my doors had about 4 coats of paint, I paid $ 50 for a gallon, and it took about 1/2 gallon for both. This was about 1/2 way through the process, about the 4th coat of stripper I had peeled off a big pile of old paint, then I pressure washed them . Not to bad of a job.
  22. Yes they are, and for sure the area below the mirrors has the most layers from 2 name changes ( we never had our name on the door) . They are pretty solid, one rust hole in the very bottom of the driver door, the drain holes were clogged, it should be a fairly easy fix. , I’ve taken pictures and measurements of where the paint lines are from when Coca Cola Painted over the Red in 1951 , I’m going to try to get it as close to that scheme as possible, black window frames and all.
  23. I steam cleaned both doors, Then brushed some stripper on ,, So far I’ve sandblasted all the other body parts and frame ,, I might end up doing that too the doors, About 4 coats of paint! Original Primer & Factory Red , Coke yellow/ orange, The welding company just painted the doors to change the name, it was a bright yellow, then my gray primer and Carolina blue ( there is a story about why I painted it blue in the late 70s )
