  1. I didn't know the name of the stuff, but I was on the right track. I'll put Dynamat on the floor and back wall of the cab. I'll get it on the firewall as much as possible. I will spray the lizard skin on the firewall under the hood. I'm not sure what will go inside the doors. I'll decide when I get in them. I want to reduce noise infiltration. I will also be helping the AC out at the same time. AC works pretty good, but a little help will be welcome. Thanks for the help. - Tom
  2. Yes, out of Hainesport, NJ. He has a recycling yard in Philly. He had a lot of trucks. Autocars, B Models, DM's. Still has mostly Macks.
  3. My Superliner is considerably noisier than my CL-713 and my CH-613. Has anybody ever gone on a sound proofing mission on an R Model cab? I'm thinking about taking up the floor mat and putting that foil faced stuff that guys put in car restorations. I'd also put the foil stuff on the inside of the doors and again under the door panels. I am thinking about silicone around any piercing of the firewall, and some type of spray sound deadener on both sides of the firewall. Any ideas?
  4. If it's a nice truck, I think you would be making a mistake doing something like this to it. Sell your truck, and buy what you want. There are nice S/L's around. I would be fearful of having a truck that nobody will want. If you did this, you would be creating a monster.
  5. Are you working on a tractor or a dump truck? What are other specifics?
  6. I drove a B81 in 1977. Robert T. Winzinger, Inc. had a bunch of them. Not many were still tagged and on the road then. They were tough, and the DM800 that replaced them was just as tough. I have owned 4 DM 800's. at one time. A B81 would be a nice toy or hobby, but I would not want to try to run one
  7. I will look for the manufacturer of mine tomorrow. It's on a 454, with a 12 speed. It really works well. I thought about putting one on my RW, but it stops great already. The RW is pulling a three axle trailer. The truck with the exhaust brake is a tri-axle dump truck. When it comes to stopping, it can use all the help it can get.
  8. I have an exhaust brake on one of my tri-axle dump trucks. It works twice as good as a Jake brake. It's also very quiet. I would prefer it over a Jake any day! I will look to see who made it.
  9. You talk about welding. I thought it was a bolt in.
  10. I have an air ride cab. I'm not terribly unhappy with the ride quality. (thanks to the 205" wheelbase) The reason I would consider the switch to air ride is, for the benefit of the truck when I'm dead heading. The hard ride isn't only tough on the driver, the truck takes a beating too. I have no knowledge, but I see no reason the Mack rears couldn't be used again.
  11. When I say it seems expensive, I am talking about parts. I intend to install it myself. If I'm recycling my rears, that is a lot of money, in my opinion. I go off pavement very little. I'm pulling a 50 ton lowboy. The reason I'm looking at the idea of converting is, my rear suspension needs attention anyway, now is a good time.
  12. I tried to copy and paste the link here with no success. I'm looking at the PRIMAXX EX. I have 44's now on Camelback. I'm hoping to use my rears again. I can't see $4,700 in what they are providing. - Tom
  13. I'm not sure what an E9 is. It's a 450 HP V-8, right? Is it the same basic thing as an old 325 HP V-8? All I remember about them was, they were hell when they were well, but that when they had issues (which wasn't rare) they were a nightmare. That and they sound terrible. Like they have two candles out constantly.
  14. Put the engine back in today with new convertor. Went pretty well. Had it running at 3:30 or so. Put new rear main seal and front pump seal in tranny. Lot of work.
  15. Hendrickson makes a kit to convert to air ride. Has anybody here done it? I have no idea what the cost is, but it looks interesting. I tried unsuccessfully to provide a link, sorry. - Tom
  16. What trans does it have? Does it have power steering?
  17. Congrats!! You won't regret it. That is a nice truck. There is no substitute for major power. - Tom
  18. If you don't mind me asking, what are new complete mirrors worth for a Superliner?
  19. I spoke to the guy I mentioned in an earlier post, who said he won't sell the Mack 18 for anything but a core. Says the Fuller is far superior. I have a 12 speed that I want to convert to an 18. My CH has a Mack 18 in it. I have had the truck for 12 years with no issues. So I can't say that I agree with his opinion.
  20. How difficult is it to switch to the Fuller?
  21. I'm looking for an 18 speed Fuller too. I spoke to a guy in Freehold, NJ (right near me), that has some Mack units. He said the Fullers are a little scarce right now, to check with him in a week or so.
  22. If you really want to use those rears, you need the transmission that was with them. I had an R model with low gears like that, but had a .6:1 over drive. I think it was T2060. It was a single stick six speed. I didn't like the one I had. Some old road ranger 13 speeds had double over drives. They will work too. they are hard to find, and are very noisy.
  23. What I've always done is square tubing across the frame. I'll put a 5" nipple on the bottom as an inlet. Put two nipples on the top for the stacks to connect to. I put a 3"x3" square tube riser just inside the stacks to brace the stack. Then I like to put flood lights on the top of the braces. I'd rather work with the square tubing than with fittings. Just my preference.
