  1. I wouldn't bet against the muffler being replaced by a "test" pipe occasionally, but it will be initially set up on the quiet side. I've had many trucks on the wild side, just not inclined that way today. Should I go with 6" pipes or 7". I'll use 5" from the turbo to the square tube that will mount the stacks.
  2. I was in Brooklyn yesterday sitting dead still in traffic. A very fancy Pete went by (going the other way) with straights. Then it occurred to me he wasn't making a sound. He was amazingly quiet. That's what I want on mine.
  3. Is one muffler enough?
  4. I'm thinking about putting straights on my tractor, but can't hack the noise like when I was a young man. Has anyone ever put straight stacks on with a muffler under the truck?
  5. 1993 Superliner. 400, 12 speed.
  6. I got it from Rochester Fuel Injection. The part itself is Blixxton.
  7. I will.
  8. Took seconds to install. Put it in the 30% mode. Took off for North Jersey Friday morning. I was not impressed. Actually I was disappointed. It does pull better, but I was expecting more. Maybe my expectations were not reasonable, I took the same size loader up on Thursday (621C Case) that I took on Friday, so the comparison was fair. It pulled the few hills on 287 a little better. It does spool up through the gears a little quicker, but it doesn't feel like 120 additional HP. Truck didn't smoke a bit, and still doesn't. Boost is still exactly the same (30 lbs.) pyro still the same, (climbs up to 850-900 and stays put) water temp unchanged. All that being said, it isn't doing anything detrimental to anything, and it does run better, I guess it's a good thing. I think it's fair to give it more of a chance than one little 200 mile round trip for a test. I wondered if I had it set wrong. Paperwork said put switch toward wires for 30%. That's where it is. - Tom
  9. Just installed the new power programmer. I'm taking a machine to Mahwah tomorrow to try it out. Any predictions?
  10. Old Herman was pretty lucky, I'd say.
  11. I think I know the former owner of your truck. Big Ed Wilburn. He drove a lowboy for a friend of mine. He lived in the house across from Ramtown-Greenville Road in the south end of Howell. He was a nice guy and a good driver. A very large black man. He told me when he retired he was going to pick up a day cab tractor and see if he could make a couple bucks with it. I believe he had been an owner operator before. If you think of selling that truck, I'd be interested. Ed was a really good guy. - Tom
  12. I took a 61,000 lb. crusher to Leesport, Penn. on Wed. The hills on 78 knocked me for a loop. The truck ran like it had a 237 in it instead of a 400. Whatever the HP loss is, I believe it's dramatic. I'll know Monday.
  13. I just put the truck to work, so I don't know how much boost it should make. I think it will be in the neighborhood of 31-36 lbs. I've heard it said that every 15 lbs. doubles the HP. So, if it takes 36 lbs. to make 400, and I have about half that, is it safe to say I'm 50% off in power?
  14. You lost me.
  15. Floaters on the front?
  16. My 1993 Superliner with a 400 HP Mack is about 12 pounds down on boost. Making under 20 pounds my other trucks make 31-36. Tested it last night and found a pretty big leak in the charge air cooler. I ordered a cooler from Mack today. So, the big question is , how much power am I losing due to the lack of boost? I think at least 100 HP. A third of the boost has to cost a quarter of the power. (McDonalds math)
  17. what's the price tag on that Pete? If you decide to keep your current truck I would be interested.
  18. You don't mention money, but if it's not financially out of line, buy the Pete. You'll wonder how you ever endured the R-model very quickly. You will also fall in love with the power instantly. - Tom
  19. I called Mack. It's $837 from them. They can get it overnight. I placed the order. Thanks Superdog. - Tom
  20. My 1993 400 only makes 15 lbs of boost. That seems low to me. I have other (newer) trucks that make 35. I checked for leaks in the cooler, had none. Does anybody know what the boost should be? The truck does seem a little down on power.
  21. Superdog I'd like to talk to you.
  22. That Conforti truck is awesome. I've seen that truck at work.
  23. What is stainless clad?
