  1. for over the road/long haul work a manual trans is fine. preferably an 18 speed. the 8 is ok, but it is severely lacking that "half gear" when in hills but since i do local paving work, the clutch while milling will have my knee the size of a football after 4 hours.
  2. they are decent machines for their age. the clutch adjusters tend to seize and when they do turning gets very difficult. and around 10 years ago parts were no longer available new. even used parts were next to impossible to find. also the neutral safety switch is in the trans on the shifter and they tend to wear out so you have to platy with the shifter to get it started.
  3. it has more to do with cant find people with brains that want to drive anymore, so you have to hire what is available. i have been looking for drivers for over two years now. the only thing out there is wanting $40 per hour to start, auto trans, and work 5 hours but get paid for 8. another thing about automatic trans. they are the only think keeping the older drivers in the trucks. ya cant drive if ya cant step on the clutch. i told the boss in 2019 i was done . i could no longer step the clutch down....even AFTER having left knee total replacement. he bought me an automatic truck. after driving mine, he sold the other truck and replaced that with an auto trans too.
  4. boss took this picture of me christmas eve. i was under the truck feeding wires up to santa...😁
  5. gee Joey, you are even ugglier than i thought you would be.
  6. here is jersey there is a bill to be voted on for dropping the front plate. surprisingly, it has support from police departments.
  7. we were on a LARGE parking lot job in 97 or 98 and everyone centered near my truck at beak time. i was the only one with an "old" truck. everyone else had mid 90's or newer macks with 400 or 427's, and one 460. there were also a few kenworts with cummins and cats in the 425 hp range. well the 237 sounds quite different from the newer engines, one of the youngsters opened the door of my truck to check it out and came around front to ask what engine and trans combo i had as he had never seen twin sticks PLUS a two speed rear switch in a truck before. the senior "old fart" on the job was a real joker, and was even quicker with a comeback. ...he told the kid that the truck had an old school 325 HP six cylinder mack engine and a quad box with two speed rears. he also told him that the larger engine and 40 possible gear combinations was why i could keep up with everyone on the road. the kid believed every word as gospel truth, and for weeks after that whenever i was around the big joke was asking me what gear i was in. mike had the new 460 powered truck with an 18 speed, and on the hood was painted " if ya can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch" i was one of the very few old trucks allowed to "run with the big dogs" another one was a 69 Autocar with a cummins and 18 speed. that 30 year old Autocar was washed every night and parked in a garage. it also had a chrome plated engine you could use as a mirror.
  8. at least on star trek and other space shows, you usually knew what sex the "creatures" were just by looking at them.
  9. the 237 will do anything the 460 will. just slower. my 79 DM 800 with worked 37 and twin stick trans would run alongside 400 and 460 trucks.............until we got to a hill. than fall flat on it's face. it had 285 injectors, a 5 inch turbo instead of the 4 inch, and the injector pump was turned up to match the injectors and turbo. the dynatard was messed up in the injector pump. straighten the rod and put it in. it would work properly one time, than bend the rod again. so i pulled the wire off the injector pump and ran it inside the cab. mounted a two speed rear switch on the main stick, and grounded one side of the switch. when i wanted the engine brake flip the switch up. switch down and engine brake off. i could speed shift by simply snapping the switch up for a second between gears to bring RPM's down faster to slip in into next gear. that truck won a whole lot of races against trucks with much bigger engines. i really hated it when they sold it.
  10. Trump. because "orange man bad"
  11. welcome to BMT!! good on you for saving another old dog! since you have air started the electrical should be 12 volt positive ground. unless it was converted to negative ground sometime over the past 60 years.
  12. there is still the same amount of mentally ill in the country. the difference is now pedo joe and company are demanding the mentally ill become the majority, and the 99 % of "normal" people become the minority.
  13. my 2020 T880 loaded was $185,000 the 2022 loaded T880 was $215. the 2023 T880 on order for september delivery is $265,000 than add on $45,000 for the body
  14. there are a lot of things on that truck that don't look kosher.
  15. the demanding assclowns, who else?
  16. i never seen anything like that before. maybe an add on by the body manufacturer?
  17. colors have nothing to do with it. . it was the name on the door that was the giveaway. actually as soon as i saw RCP on the radiator shield i knew it.
  18. my bear of choice was always P.B.R. or jack, preferably gold label. but i would not turn down a single barrel either.
  19. i know that truck, the company, and probably know where the other 49 trucks are too. 🤫
  20. brocky, my trailer will lift the front of the deck over 18 inches. normal drive height is 8 inches off the ground. and i can raise the rear of the deck close to 10 inches with the rear air ride suspension.
  21. Paul, it was a woman dressed as a man, not the other way around. the initial report WAS man dressed as woman, but once they looked closer they found the truth.
  22. rite but before this she denied anything ever happened. and cohen admitted on the stand trump knew nothing about the payout, or the LLC used to pay it.
  23. there is no evidence. she said it never happened on the stand. if she now says it did, she will be guilty of perjury. the states star witness has pled guilty of the crime the state is charging Trump with committing. that star witness also swore on the stand Trump knew nothing about the pay off, was convicted of the crime, and is serving prison time for it. he has also been convicted of perjury. plus, the prosecutor who brought the charges has hidden over 600 pages of evidence proving no crimes were ever committed by trump. even the NY Times Sunday headline said that the demonrats are making sure Trump will be unbeatable after this is all over if they insist on going forward with this fiasco.
  24. we have them here too Paul. 20,000 square foot house on a 1/4 acre lot. mercedes and lexus in the driveway, and no furnature inside. all about looking like you have more money than brains.
