  1. back around 87 or 88 one of the large local manufacturers send 10 of their security vehicles to auction. 75 C10 short box step side 4X4 with 250 six and 3 on the tree. no ac, no radio. all but two had under 30,000 miles on them. the two that had aftermarket radios put in still only had under 45,000 miles on them. red, with black bench seat. all 10 sold for $250, and the same person took all ten when the option was offered on first truck sale.
  2. here is the thread. user MorrisMe: he last logged on in Feburary.
  3. all went on the 250 six cylinder.
  4. Yup. Last time I looked the N-50 15's were around $400 each. I think I paid $100 for two tires AND rims.
  5. Back many many years many many moons ago, the station owner I was working at called me on satuday afternoon. a guy pulled in with "an old chevy" that was not running rite and wanted to sell it. Monday morning I went in to find a 66 Chevelle super sport, with 250 six cylinder and 4 speed. I could not get the $50 asking price out of my pocket fast enough!. headers, cam, Mallory dual points distributor, 4 barrel intake and carb later, I had a 12 second race car. That car made me a whole lot of money racing before I finally sold it for $2,000
  6. Adjusting a tie rod usually only moves that wheel. You was toe to be about 1/16 to 1/8 in.
  7. yup. done it a few times when the low boy trailer, or float as you call it over there was not available to haul it back home
  8. a friend of mine, 87 years young, was sitting at a red light in his 89 R model tandem dump. drunk driver running from police came into his lane and hit him head on....WHILE STOPPED AT RED LIGHT. drunk was killed. Bill's insurance dropped him instantly..... and refused to pay for damage to his truck... never had a ticket or accident in his life. forced retirement and was dead 6 months later. he kept driving to give himself a reason to get up in the morning.
  9. i love reading that "my engine is ruined from no oil pressure" on the ford diesel truck forums.... then the dipsticks start arguing with you when you tell them it is impossible that could happen because the HPOP that fires the injectors is run by low pressure oil pump. if the engine looses oil pressure the engine will shut off before any damage is done. and they come back with "well my mechanic said"..... to which i reply i am a mechanic... your parts changer tech is trying to rip you off for a $8,000 engine when you only need a 4-500 dollar part.
  10. not really, neither link works now.
  11. I was able to see the picture from the link you posted
  12. 305 was a good engine. the 307 was the not so good engine.
  13. typical politics doubletalk.....
  14. that almost looks like a new york sanitation tractor. ... except all theirs that i have seen or heard of were 3406 cat with allison automatic.
  15. yea, plain jane volvos, freightshakers and internationals are the big thing here too because they are $100,000 cheaper than Macks, Kenworths, and Petes
  16. hey now i am offended by this post!!! it is an insult to the hyena, donkey, bettlejuice, and banjo boy comparing those useless idiots to them.
  17. back in late 88 early 89 when i lived outside Concord NC. off road trucks were Kenworth and Petes, on and over the road trucks were Macks.
  18. i have this on the front door: and have had at least a dozen people selling things knock on the door to apologize for knocking but they just had to ask where i got the sign.
  19. We don't mind dirty truck pictures. That just proves it really is a work truck. And I fully understand mill work is filthy. A "quick" 1/4 mile trip into the mill grounds for a load of 3/4 to 1 inch recycled Slag and I have to wash the truck off cause it looks like I drove across the mud flats at 50 mph!!
  20. May years ago a friend had a dm800 cab and nose on a b81 frame. It was a frankentruck. 350 engine and an allison automatic trans
  21. Joey, if i can not get made in usa parts, made in mexico is second choice. they are still 1000 times better than cheap chinesium parts.
  22. yes, and they also had to change the tires, because they were with the company that owned the trailer!!
  23. not a mack, but about 40 years ago i moved an oil refinery cracking tower 6 miles to the waterfront to be shipped from new jersey to texas. 16 foot diameter 124 foot tall. weighed close to 250 ton. trailer was a mammoet with it's own 300 HP hydraulic powerplant. tractor was an autocar tri drive with a 903 V8 cummins and three 100 ton planetary rears with 5 speed deep reduction box, 5 low box, and 5 speed main box for a total of 125 possible gears to select from. top speed of the truck was only around 40 mph, but move speed was only around 1/2 MPH. the move ended up taking close to 24 hours though because the ground walkers on the passenger side missed an offset rail at an angled train crossing that blew out a whole mess of tires. something like 20 or so. it took almost 12 hours just to change the tires to get us back rolling.
  24. the way i always heard it was " if it aint one thing wrong, it is two things wrong.
  25. no, getting carried away is happens when the men in the clean white suits with big butterfly nets and hug me jackets start pounding on your door.
