I think your not comparing apples with apples here These countries and their people are just battling along as best they can Even if they had the money to buy the part there probably is no factory trained mechanics there I really admire someobe for having a go, no matter the country and to me sitting back knocking some for having a crack at life is a bit unfair, or as we would say "It's un Australian" I guess that old saying "don't judge me until you've walked a mile in my shoes" comes to mind These people in the video's probably earn in year what most Americans or Australians earn in a week Good on them for having ago Our countries were built on people having ago, not on people criticising them Did they fail, hell yes they did, but they didn't give up, they got up, dusted themselves off and kept on trying I reckon a lot of this is missing today Paul

It looks impressive if nothing else

Age has nothing to do with ability Years of experience has nothing to do with ability Ability has to be taught, so why are people less able to fix none text book problems these days ? I dunno, I feel most people are not allowed to think for themselves anymore And if they do think for themselves they are chastised if they get it wrong As a young bloke I was very fortunate to have 2 very good tradesman teach me as a apprentice No matter what mistakes I made, if they could see I was trying they never gave me a hard time The company I worked for had at times 150 tradesmen and at a guess a 1/3 were just grumpy old pricks that had the shits on with the world Another 1/3 were just getting by raising a family and so on The other 1/3 cared a lot and probably 10% of those really wanted to teach apprentices As to these so called dodgy repairs, well I guess it is like the U.S. or Australia 80 years ago We just got shit done, it might not of been text book right but it worked good enough, if not better at times than the OEM gear Paul

1996 Mack Rd688 300hp loosing prime

You have a fuel leak in the return to tank side of the fuel system Now the tricky part is you most likely will not see this leak because it isn't under any pressure I have found a piece of inner tube over the fuel filler hole with a fitting to hook the shop air to is of great help Wind the regulator down as low as the compressor goes, maybe 20 psi and put some pressure on the fuel system This forces any fuel out any leaks that are there and enables you to find them Not very likely to be a injector pump problem, as you have already said Paul -

Well, coolant the bumber or not, rigging correct or not, diff centers correct or not and on and on It is still cooler than any truck I have owned So if you change your mind on this dream machine, sing out, would be far more fun to tour the U.S. in than any muscle car or square body Chev when I finally make it over there 😉🦘🦘 Seriously though, any truck thats even half this age that has done hard yacka will be so modified to suit what ever purpose it needs to fill it will only resemble what it's meant to when new Paul -
Thats a impressive modification Paul

If the diff ratio is any good, just chuck some fresh donuts on it and drive it home 3 grand to freight it at a guess Paul

new Alternator belts after a year making noise
mrsmackpaul replied to Fridley mechanics's topic in Introduction Forum
So if a serpentine pulley is like a lotta normal Vee belt pulleys but side by side on a small scale, at least in my mind thats how I picture them Anyway if a serpentine pulley isn't even across the belt surface it would mean the belt be slipping on the smaller and larger section of the pulley Maybe get a straight edge and lay it across each pulley and look for correctness of the pulley And a long straight edge and line the face of each pulley up with crank pulley to make sure they are actually square to the crank I don't have a lot of experience with these but the few issues I have had over the years are pretty easy to spot once I start checking things Paul -

Okay you jokers, better be something better than duel bagged vacuum A short but funny story My first wedding anniversary, after the first Christmas as a married man and the Princess and I agreeing to not buy each other gifts, me been me actually thought she was fair dinkum and awoke Christmas morning with no gift Learnt very quickly what a rookie mistake that was as I recieved a gift after little gift and death stares from her friends as they all asked "so what did he get you for Christmas ?" So not to fall for that again I decided for our 1st anniversary I would go all out Got her a peg tin for the clothes line and fitted and filled with brand new pegs, got big cup hooks and in the back of the linen press door I screwed these in, got one of every type of broom I could find and hung them up I was so proud of my new found wisdom that I was sure I was on a winner Buzzzzz, fail, looser, how could I of got it so wrong I got a 9inch angle grinder for a birthday present so why can't I buy here tools All I know is I am a idiot so just buy her something nice Also a tip for you blokes still making a mess of this, if she says "you shouldn't have" or "your naughty" or something along those lines, your actually doing okay If on the other hand you hear something like "everthing is fine", run take cover, the fire work's are about to get real and your the target and are about to be blamed for everything 50 years into the future and 50 years before you were even born Stay safe out there men, it's dangerous world, it's like a mine field or a ticking time bomb, shit gets very real very quickly sometimes 😉 Paul
