  6. In a truck for heavier type work, like most old trucks out here it will be rough and tough and no show pony by any stretch of the imagination, but will rarely if ever work much at all Paul

  10. Speedo normal reads off the trans output shaft so on a two speed axel only one of the speeds is right and in most cases its the high speed side as most trucks are in high gear in the back end most of the time Paul
  11. Now that I like seed Watch out Princess lol Paul
  12. Maybe dunno not real sure lol But I'm thinking that back in days gone by they would force left handed kids to write with their right hand, I'm thinking this would have seen to be a advantage back in them swash buckling days, but I'm just a year or two to young to know for sure Paul
  13. I dunno about whos right or wrong here I do know that in days gone by (and even today if your old fashioned like me) that you always walk down the road or foot path (side walk I think you blokes call that) you always walk with your significant other to your left I am lead to believe this comes from many years earlier and it kept your right arm free to defend against any rat bags with your sword I reckon it would have been the same when out in the horse and buggy etc So Im thinking maybe this is why drive on the side of the road we do because when cars first came about there was plenty of horses pulling loads And then again I might have this all ass about as well lol Paul
  14. I never did until just now ,all very interesting I think https://usa.embassy.gov.au/events/diggers-doughboys-art-allies-100-years Have a read if the link works Paul
  15. If you find the pressure is to high I would guess it has popped the o rings and seals in the gear knob so it will need to be disassembled and the o rings put back in their grooves Paul
  16. On the top of the transmission RHS on the ones I have worked on Some have two regulators some have two They should ne 55 -60 psi Paul
  17. 12V71 was at a blokes joint today and was looking at a 453 he is putting in little IH truck (guessi g a 2 or 3 ton mid 50's type) Anyway got to talking about a Jacobs brake for it and I suggested you may have a lead as to were to get a set so said Id ask So any idea's were to track a set down ? And a questio from me , have you ever mucked around with a 6 110 GM ??? Paul
  18. Pressure regulator sounds like its not working on the transmission
  19. 12v71 welcome to the forum Dunno if Macks had a 12v71but a few KW's did out here Paul
  20. So how would a mechanic road test a manual transmission if they can't drive it ???
  21. I think most people out side of the find it amazing that a lot of Americans cant drive a manual at all and it appears a lot of Americans fear the very thought of driving them Paul
  22. I jave only ever seen bonnetted (conventional for yanks) ones out here Read the other day only 33 made it out here in total so the fact I see any at all is amazing Paul
  23. How could a bent crank effect the timing??? The cam is driven off the front of the crank so even if the crank was bent it would have effect on the cam posistion to the crank , so it would have no effect on timing Paul
  24. It's a funny thing how attached we become to things Paul
  25. I doubt it will be the cam grind , diesels arent as susceptible to cam shaft grinds as petrol But you are saying there is a sensor driven from the cam ? perhaps thats a place to start Perhaps these newer motors are cam sensitve and the cam isnt the right one or installed right Think about it this way , if the timing is out two tenths of sweet stuff all then the sensor will be out of time with the crank and the injectors will be out of time with crank and the cam sensor As I have said already, I would dial in the cam like I would have as young bloke chucking a hot cam in a car motor, not just make sure its timing marks are lined up but make sure the lobes are rising and falling in the correct position to the crank and to the sensor I would also make sure the crank sensor reads at the correct time and matches the timing of the cam sensor This is what I would do, I doubt most young blokes would even know what Im talking about at any truck dealers so I would think this is something I would do at home over a weekend I think you also find most people in modern work shops have little to no idea on fault findint and rely on work shop manuals and what the lap top says and anything unusual just gets guessed at not thought out Just some thoughts Paul
