So...... I have always loved to cook (my mom started teaching me when I was 9 or 10) and always did the cooking in the firehouse and to this day cook big and/or extravagant meals on holidays. You guys may recall last year, I was in the market for a smoker. I was asking some of the guys on here about them, and Otherdog talked me into buying a pit barrel smoker (www.pitbarrelcooker.com) So I asked the wife to get me one fathers day if she was going to get anything. (For fathers day she usually gets me something Macungie-related like a pop-up awning, or a small charcoal grill, or chairs, portable tables, stuff like that.....) So Macungie came, and so did Otherdog who surprised us all for the first time. He kept asking me "Well did she get it for you?" And I had to tell him "No, looks like we cannot afford one right now. I'll have to wait, maybe I will work some overtime and save up." So the Tuesday after Macungie, I get home from work and walk into the mudroom and damn near fall over a big ass box and damn near break my neck. Seems that the UPS man delivered a Pit Barrel Smoker. The wife was asleep (she was due into work that night) so when I get home from work on her work nights, I wake her up so she can shower, eat and get out the door for 7pm. So I run upstairs and wake her up and kissed her twenty times exclaiming "You got it for me!!! You got it for me!!!" Well imagine my confusion when she says over and over again "What the hell are you talking about? What smoker? I didn't get the smoker for you!" So I checked my Amazon Prime account thinking maybe I bought it by accident when I was looking at it (yes I have done that...........) but nope....Nothing on the account. So I called Amazon and spoke to an account rep.....She traces it back to a (insert real name here...........) "Otherdog with a Gladys, Virginia mailing address." So I called Otherdog. The conversation went something like this. Me: "Hey I just got home and damn near broke my neck on a box inside my mud porch." OD: "huh, what was that?" Me: "A Pit Barrel Smoker." OD: "Huh so she got it for you!" Me: "Uh, no." OD: "Well where did it come from?" Me: "The Gladys Fairy delivered it." OD: "Huh. That Gladys Fairy sure is nice!" So after going back and forth for a few minutes I let him in on that I called Amazon and found out. And then I said "Look, while this is a tremendous gift and I sincerely appreciate your kindness and friendship, I want to say that I cannot accept this, however, I also know you well enough to know that if I tell you I can't take it that you will tell me to shove it up my ass, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart and you are a beautiful man." Then he told me that I was one of the big driving forces that made him take off from work for a few days to drive to Macungie for the show, and he had such a good time he wanted to do something nice for me and my family. So, since I don't live far from Macungie....I threw together a little pick-a-nick thing for some folks and woke my ass up at 0530 on Saturday, and was out there and at precisely 6:30am I hung three beef round roasts and one bone-in pork shoulder into the very smoker that he gave me as gift almost exactly one year later. And around 2:15pm I got to watch Otherdog munching down. We had a great time and I don't get mushy on here often but it was cool to make some grub for him and watch him enjoying hisself. So thanks again Otherdog and happy fathers day to you and all the other fathers on here!!! The smoker all loaded up at 6:30am The smoked bone-in pork shoulder, being prepped for shredding. Then we mixed in an Eastern North Carolina vinegar-based barbeque sauce that my wife made. Picture of me starting to slice the three roast beefs. Photo by Otherdog's ladyfriend, Zina.

The stories I could tell you. One of the problems is the NFPA, the group that creates the recognized industry standards and codes for firefighting- everything from suggested minimum training requirements to minimum standards for fire extinguishers, helmets, boots, coats, tools, radios, and yes firetrucks. These standards are constantly changing and evolving. Many Federal, State and Local Governments have adopted NFPA standards to guide their firefighting agencies. As a result of this, and due to the standards constantly changing, older rigs lose their value by not being compliant. There are so many rigs out there that could be of value to a small town Fire Dept but because they are not NFPA compliant, they are hesitant to purchase them for fear of liability.

Minneapolis. PARTS FOUND. A used harmonic balancer was located at Leed Diesel. As much as they are hesitant to install a used one, the $1500 tag of a new one with the 7-10 day wait is not in the cards. Thanks to all for the help.
-
Guys, have a group of close friends who were returning from the bus show in Hershey Pa when the harmonic balancer on their 8.2L Detroit took a poop in Harrisburg. They got towed to Triple K near the T/A on 81 in Harrisburg. Penn DD/A and J & T both say 7-10 days minimum. Does anyone know of a Detroit shop in the east somewhere that may have a good stock of those 8.2L parts? Here's what I got: SN 08G0051526 Year 1982 Model 8.2 Engine Family CGM08.2DA84 Naturally aspirated. The part number may be 8928951 If anyone can help with price and availability quicker than 7-10 days it would be appreciated!

They say when you have a dog at home and you have a baby, that the first time the father comes home from the hospital he should bring a swaddling blanket or a cap that they baby has worn- to give to the dog so that he can smell it. Apparently they will instinctively understand what is happening. I will never forget the first time I came home as a father, on December 19, 2003. It was about 9 or 10 at night. I came in the front door with a bunch of stuff in my arms, and a bag that had a swaddling blanket AND a cap that Cody our oldest wore at some point during that day. Pokey could have cared less about me- he damn near shoved me over trying to get his nose into that bag to get out the blanket and the cap as if he knew what was happening. He got them both and took them to his bed on the floor and snuggled up with them and went to sleep. I brought Mamma and Cody home the day after, and he was as gentle as a lamb with the new baby. We just put Pokey down last week. He was 15 and a half years old and had seniority on all four kids. He was a good pup.

Push down and turn counter-clockwise if I remember right -
You are a good man to see through the propaganda and recognize this, Vlad. And Americans should also remember the millions of Russian soldiers who gave their lives as well.

Wait.......The Russians are invading again? This is the first I am hearing of this!!!! Very cool!!!!!!!!!!

I am a Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Official/Zoning Official in Pa. on top of some of the other hats that I wear. That being said, I often find myself between a rock and a hard place having to enforce codes and zoning regulations but also being a truck lover and owning several myself. I live in a residential neighborhood with homes on all sides of me. I would never subject my neighbors to outdoor storage of my trucks- I am fortunate in that the 58 FWD fits in the garage. The 78 Hahn is stored off-site. 68-F-Model You have received some good advice here as well as some very poor advice. The WORST thing you could do is tell the Zoning Officer (thus the Town) to "go to hell." That will only open pandoras boxes that you do not want opened. You yourself said that the Zoning Officer seems accommodating, you should use that to your advantage and go with it. Work with him and come to an amicable solution. I read through the ordinance that you posted and as I see it, if the truck were tagged as an antique, you should be good to go- however I would double check and make sure they have no ordinances preventing parking of vehicles over XXXX in size or weight; whether they are commercial or not. Some municipalities will do that to prevent parking of large RV's. I am allowed to take photographs of anything that I want from a public right-of-way or from neighboring properties with permission of the property owners. That being said, in the suburbs of Philly, most communities have Property Maintenance Codes forbidding storage of junk vehicles or large commercial vehicles in residentially zoned neighborhoods. The same communities that elect their District Justices where us Zoning Guys have to get our Administrative Search Warrants from. When I have to fill out the affidavit of probable cause, I attach the pictures from the sidewalk or the neighbors property and the 5 or 6 warrants I have applied for over the last dozen years have never been denied.

As long as there is the potential for litigation with his (former) employer I would tell him to steer clear of mary jane but that's for him to decide.

Is this Mister Morris???? -
The pic is kind of blurry when I expand it. Please, for the love of all things holy, please tell me that is an E9 in the Hayward truck and not a 2-Stroke.
