now that was Some Funny stuff right there... "sign up today and you get a Chain drive wallet" LMAO... "you should start with a volvo or a Freightliner and be someones dog"

thanks for the into guys I have been so busy that I have not had time to make up a tool. One question I forgot to ask. Does the pump (when engnie running) turn in the same rotation as the engine?

What I laugh at is that I see more truck fires nowadays than ever before... just this last trip to canada I saw 2 trucks torched to the ground. last trip to Long Island one truck up in flames. I also see more trucks rode off into cornfields. last 2 trips I saw about 5 trucks parked or on their sides. makes me wonder how hard these green drivers push themselves to make beer money and fall asleep at the wheel. Sad!

I always thought the 5 speed was easy and the eaton fullers were hard to shift. The macks altho rough around the edges had a positive feel to them when they were going into gear or not going. the eaton fullers will only go into gear if timed correctly of scratch/bang into gear if you were off. I would rather feel the scratch and not go in than it fall in with a bang!

With 4.17 rears .....1st and 2nd are slow ...3rd about 27 mph.4th about 40 In 5 th you max out at 62 mph at 2100 rpm. This is aprox numbers. you have to use the whole rpm range of the engine...rev it out and shift at 2000-2100 and it will fall back to 1200-1300 rpm when you grab the next higher gear. The 5 speed has wide splits but is easy to drive with limited shifts needed..
-
The 8 LL is eaton??. It's not as strong as a Mack 12 but the splits are wide and the 300 maxidynes loves that.
-
You have a 5 speed that is direct in 5th. You need an over drive trans. Look for an 8LL or a Mack 12 speed. Both have wide splits for the maxidynes torque curve and a over drive that can get you home in a hurry. That's my .02

Thanks very much for this info. It sounds fairly easy after you have a tool made up. I will get some pics when I have it set up to make sure I'm doing it right...its great to have people such as you with this kind of knowledge on this site. Can't get that kind of help in a book. Trent

Ok I under stand finding the 25 deg mark on the dampened,. And then Lousen the 4 bolts on the pump drive coupling.however I can see that the coupling has slots that only allow you to advance/ retard the pump about 30 deg. How do I know when the pump is obtaining port closing?will I feel it or do I need a tool to know. I think it's an ambac pump. Will have to get a pic soon. Thanks for your help

Sled pull season is here and want a little more power. We removed the pump timing cover and see it can be adjusted. There are no marks on the gear just slots to pot the bolts in and adjust. I was hoping I could just bring it to tdc and advance the pump to say 24-25 deg and lock it down. Problem is I don't know where it will be at? What's the deal.

shifting process on a Mack 12speed
Lmackattack replied to mackniac's topic in Engine and Transmission
1st direct, rev out gear, flip to hi,release throttle, let rpm drop and fall into next gear, grab throttle and rev out gear, flip into direct, release throttle, move into 2nd hole...repete.. -
The kits are hard to find. Best bet would be to search for a turbo rebuilding shop and ask them. That's how I found my rebuild kit for my Mitsubishi turbo on my Toyota ...may try precision turbo. I think they helped me. Make sure to check the threads on the shaft...i recall that the compressor side Sometimes are reverse threaded!!

im sure glad I dont run more then a few days each month. I do my normal drive 14 hrs and then sleep 8-9hrs then drive another 14. East coast in a day West coast and southwestern states in 2 days...no bull shit government trucking here. On the other hand the old HOS rules did protect drivers from company abuse. so they are needed. the HOS rules today are a joke. too hard to follow and understand as each state seams to have a diffrent understnading of them. Im kinda wondering how these new electronic logs will be. part of me says it will just be that more simple to adjust the logs to my driving style and the computer will tell me where I made an error. Just like every new lock, there will be guys like me picking them....

Well that was a fun Trip... dead headed out to Long Island Tuesday. Hit the G.W bridge at midnight and started lousing all my teeth from there to the L.I.E. Holy hell are those roads bad. They must pave them with the help of a compacter roller? got close to my destanation at 1 am and got a hotel. Next Morning I arrice where I had to blind side into a alley way with about 6" on either side of the truck. that took about 15 min and wore off about 4 years of clutch life. Loaded the 53' van by hand with no loading dock. did have 5 guys to help tho. one guy dropped a metal plate on his foot and had to be hauled out in an ambulance with a broken foot or ankel? He was hurt bad... Left there at 3pm and Headed to Thadddeus place near Queens N.Y. to pick up some stuff for Rob and Yep....made note to self, never ask a New Yorker if you can get a 65' truck down their street. if there is just 66' space it will go! LOL... I made it in but barely made it out. One way street cars double parked in a tight N.Y. neighborhood. Had to pay some guys to help load the stuff as it was heavy for 2 guys, one of them with a bum foot but we got it done quick. took out some tree limbs making a hard right hope they did not fall on any cars????Noticed every bridge in N.Y marked 12'6" ? Yet I made it under them all after coming to a complete stop and sticking my head out the window as a crawl under them slowly? Then off to N.J. to get my 12 speed. hit the L.I.E west bound under the Brooklyn Bridge and over the verrazaano narrows bridge to the NJTP. met some clown youngster container hauler in a Junk CH mack running up a incline in 2nd gear. For some reaseon he dident want me to pass in the far left lane. he tried to block the left 2 lanes so me and the trucks behind me could not pass him? State law says no trucks in the far left but Im just a Law braking Trucker.....Myself and another driver politely showed him over to the far right. Made it to NJ where I got my 12 Transmission and was heading home by 6PM. -

I guess you could do as you said. if your worried about the exhaust gas in the tank trick.....My advice is to rince that tank out with soap/degreaser and water. let the hose run for about 30mins so that its pretty flushed out and clean. now stand the tank on end and drill the tank for your drain. put the cap on the filler neck and then Fill the tank with water through the drilled hole so that the water level is just below that hole. the water will take up most of the volume in the tank and reduce the risk of a big bomb. this is what I did when I welded my PTO hose fittings on my Tank.
