  1. There is a lot more to see in Jerome, the town is haunted too. Did you get the the truck graveyard in one of the old quarries there? Not a public tour though. I was invited but could not make it last year. Lots of old iron in then there hills... A real treasure trove I am told... Found a couple of LT's up by there in Cottonwood a few years back, only wanted to sell them complete, no parts.
  2. These old Cummins run really cool if there is no load on. There should be room behind the radiator for a condenser, a few degrees hotter isn't going to make a real difference. Keep the shutters, just keep them open. They are classic on the LT's even with the grill guard.
  3. That truck will be totally new or rebuild real soon. Whats not to like about a new LT... Is A/C in the plans, They get a little hot in the cab.
  4. Thats is one way to get to the steering box!! You won't have a problem getting to much anything to work now. With that box apart on the floor it did not look to healthy to begin with. It that the Special red grease used to stop an oil leaker? Looks like to far apart to consider that an in-frame now...LOL. Wasn't that truck just though a major restoration?
  5. Got an overdrive 9 speed with a 3speed brownie OD for double overdrive and 5.77 rears. It's been running since 1953 with no issues.
  6. Options.... Go get a 12,000# front axle and springs if you want them then.
  7. Those wheel bars should really help. I like hanging them in the air but... no control. On the ground with all 4 is a good place to be. Holly Cow and I mean COW. That is impressive to run that good at 3850Lbs All aluminum isn't going to help that much with all that weight.... Well maybe I have the answer for you,... a couple of the dinosaurs I have to play with All aluminum V12's, 860cid, a little heavy at 1000Lbs dresses but.... Just like a good looking woman that has a few extra pounds... It's what you do with it. Pure Auto Porn at its Best Take a look at the valve covers and coolant tank on the last one. What do you think its is going in? Been in the works for 5 years now. You should know real quick Larry. It will really move at 2600Lbs, is a clue.
  8. My Old Plymouth SS, 548 Hemi, 727 Torqueflight, 2x4 Crossram, roller motor, 4.30 gears, 2940Lbs, Best, 9.31@145. Should go 8.7? with new all aluminum 605 Hemi and drop 150Lbs when I get around to it. No electronics, Old school mash pedal and GO!! Got beat by that FE Ford when I had to pedal it not to break out, I don't pedal well, O Well... Don't like loosing anyway. Might want to think about some wheelie bars for that Ford, I'd be blowing by while your heads looking at the sky.
  9. I did not realize how close our interest are. Funny but a FE Ford was the only car that beat my old HEMI last time out, but not by much... I qualified second, over him by .28 seconds, in a 16 car field. When I worked in a machine shop, for 18 years, I always had G-work going on. Bushed the lifter bores in one HEMI on the jig mill, made connecting rods and pistons just because I could, countless head and valve jobs. Your boring mill photos bring back memories...
  10. Nice work, it does look close to what should be there. I do my own fab work too and try to make it look correct as well. Two suggestions. Get the tube bright ceramic powder coated not gold, it does look really good and just like aluminum. If the radius bends really bug you, as they would me, use the rubber elbow that are available. I looked for the rubber ones and the small size is a problem. Summit racing has smaller rubber ones or Silicone turbo elbows with tight bends. Really like the old hotrod approach in putting a newer engine in even if there are a few mods, No substitute for HP. Nice Nice deal on the clutch let us know how that material works.
  11. The simple explanation, more timing advance the higher the HP and higher RPM needed to make it work. Running a lot of timing (19 plus degrees) at 1500-1800 is not good for pistons, rod bearings heads, bent rods and EGT. Not to mention a few rods airing out engine blocks (throwing a leg out of bed) Stock timing is 13-17 degrees depending on HP rating and year of production. The lower the timing advance the better the emissions but lack of power but easer on parts. The old 865/866 ran up to 31 degrees in stock settings. There were a lot of cracked heads, bad bearings, thrown rods and blown head gaskets on them.
  12. That is just right!! WOW, I really like that 866 that is in it, just a cool truck. Only problem I see... It is not going to be in my garage!! Great job and a lot of work, thanks for showing us.
  13. Conversion of a B would make for a pick-up that you would not want to drive. If you want a B pick-up the best way is to re-cab a 3/4 or 1 ton current model. Ride, Stereo, A/C, Power Steering, Shifting and maintenance are all issues. It sounds like fun but have you ever driven a B for 200-300 miles straight? You will know what I am talking about if you have, It is not fun after the 3rd hour and you just what to get there. If you are hard-core like some of us a real B, original or restored, is the only way to go. There are finished and unfinished B projects out there. Find a few and ask those Guys why they are selling them before jumping in and be one of them.
  14.

Happy Bday and Easter too. Hope all your E9 wishes come true.

  15. Real Men drive L's no sissy power steering here... All it takes is a strong arm and the truck moving just a little, eat your Wheaties and Spinach and you will be OK. Get the Beer Belly off helps to get between the steering wheel and seat back too with that big wheel. BenGay at night helps a lot. On an LT it has that small steering box connected directly to the column, not many choices for a power steering box. The only way to put power steering on one is the drag link slave cylinder with the control valve on the end. Rig up the pump of back of fuel pump or belt off Aux drive. Your truck has a 400 in it if I remember right? Matt put the setup that I am talking about on my B-755, it uses the same strait shaft box as the LT. There was no room for newer larger boxes. It does work and I have a smaller wheel for my Belly.
  16. I was looking for a while for the V-Clamps and Heavy Spring clamps for on turbo hoses. I found them all at www.azsupply.com Don't know why I can't link it. But got 10, 4inch heavy spring clamps for $48.00 with free shipping, made in the USA. Same as Mack at a fraction of the price. Part# B9224-413B. They are made by Breeze.
  17. It is hard to just say one. Got to love the AB and really all chain drives. As for what can still be driven on the road, the LTL, B-75 and RW are all Classic Mack's
  18. Ground Ground and Ground!! Back feed will get running lights to work.
  19. I will go with fullfuel on the marine E9, He has a 925hp out of a boat. I wanted to get it off him for drag racing. There is a lot of liquid cools stuff on them and that all helped to make horsepower. I know enough to be dangerous about gasoline boat engines though. All the exhaust manifolds are water cooled from salt or fresh water. If it is a fresh water boat chances are it is an open system, water is first run through the engine then cool the exhaust. In a salt water boat the engine is a closed system with glycol and a heat exchanger, exhaust is cooled though sea strainer water pump circuit.
  20. The big components are the same and are the ones I want spares of as well. A lot of the other smaller components are all different but I did think heads where the same too. What is the difference between marine and truck heads? How many of the E9's were actually installed in boats? I have heard it was as low as 20-30 engines. If that was the case there was a lot of money lost in just the tooling.
  21. I have seen that boat for sale on line for a while. Nice boat and really moves. There are a few guys here that have marine E9 V8's out of boats. They are dependable engines but it is all in how you run them and maintain them. Parts are available still as well as rebuild kits but are not cheap. There are no new engines anymore as they have not been produced in almost 20 years. Only issue in a boat is who is going to work on it? Most Mack Truck shops have not seen E9's in years, but there are a few shops that still have qualified guys to work on them. Try and find a spare truck engine for parts, all the big components are the same. If something major happens you will be glad you did. Parts are not cheap but most diesel stuff is not these days. If you get the boat and decide to repower it I would be interested in the engines.
  22. Good Body guys all have three vises: Women, money and drinking issues. All take away time from what they are really good at. It goes with the job, just think what could happen if they really put thier mind to it. No one wants to finish what someone else started but if time is short that may have to be done. Good luck on getting the RW back together in a week. I got a car that was started almost 5 years ago. It will be perfect but a little over due. Good thing my health is good and not planing on going 6 feet under soon.
  23. It sounds crazy but around here, Scottsdale, it is more the norm than you would think. Taking Daddy jet with half a doz. friends to Val or Tahoe for a ski trip is a way of getting rid of the teens for a weekend. Kids with BMW's, Mercedes, Hellcats a Lambo or two, it is not of this world. I was running a 2004 Porsche 996 twin turbo on a bad, bad tune, missing about 300hp that is suppose to be there. I already emailed the shop to say WTF. It is sort of old school here, Phoenix, with some of the racing stuff. There is a little airport in Gila Bend, AZ that is not used much. On a few weekends a years it is rented out for doing speed runs. It is a mile runway, 1/2mile gas pedal to the floor, 1/2 mile with brake pedal to the floor, side by side. As many runs as you want all day, $200 per day fee. Only thing needed is a Cert. Helmet, I like those rules. Only problem is that you can only do a run or two and hour. Going fast is not the problem..... it is stopping, brakes get red hot after two running back to back.
  24. I saw one in a 4 door Wrangler, it was a factory looking job, really nice and sounded great. The swap was over $20k plus the Wrangler. It was a kid's and dad paid for it. His mommy traded it in on a 6 cylinder when she drove it once!! The guy that owns it now got a great deal and is older. Was out at the No Fly Zone today 1/2 mile run, my best was 164.8mph. It was good enough to put a little Woop Ass on those Hellcat powered things. The car is real light on power today should have been in the 180's. Back to the shop.. Top dog was a 2015 Nissan GTR@ 202.2mph with 1500hp.
  25. Nice looking, What was it used for, hauling a backhoe or little dozer? There is some nice stuff to be found up by you for sure.
