I got home from the Colorado trip Tuesday night. I unloaded coiled wire that I loaded in Pueblo, Co. last Thursday in Rome, Ga. Monday morning, then had to layover and pick up a load of 60' beams in Greenville, S.C. Tuesday morning. Got them off in Petersburg that evening and finally got home. Had to take the truck to Carter Cat because the engine light had been on for a week. I was supposed to leave today going to Homestead, Florida. I was gonna run double with Billy Bob in his truck, but he had to leave yesterday for Nebraska, so Otis was gonna go with me in my truck, which is fixed now...for a while anyway. Had to have 2 drivers because the load was supposed to go at 4pm today, and needed to be in Homestead at 8am tomorrow. But, those plans changed too-maybe because the trailer we're pulling hasn't even made it back to Lynchburg from California yet. So now we're supposed to leave at 1 o'clock Sunday and deliver Monday morning. I think we'll just drop the trailer and bobtail back but i'm not sure about that yet.

I like Howes in winter when it's real cold. I used to put a quart of ATF in the fuel tanks once in a while too, but don't anymore. The red dye in the ATF is the same as in off road fuel. There's a man in Appomattox ,won't mention any names, that has a truck leased on where I work. He also has a dump truck, bulldozer, backhoe,etc. and does excavation work. He was hauling his dozer from a job back to his shop one time and didn't have much fuel in the truck so he put just a little of his off road fuel in it to get him home-and the DOT stopped him and checked it. He had never done it before, and never had the fuel checked before but they fined him pretty heavy for it.

I agree, I was pulling an aluminum Ravens before Jeff bought the Fontaine i'm pulling now and a Ravens is hard to beat.

She'll understand- she knows you need that truck. I know she knows you couldn't go wrong at that price, especially with the extra parts and the dump body. She's far too intelligent to not think it's a helluva find and a "must have" situation.

What a beautiful country we live in-I probably had a similar picture on my great western adventure last year,but here's Pike's Peak again. I probably should have made it smaller,but it's such an impressive looking mountain! And this old boom truck I couldn't identify-I was going to a jobsite in Broomfield,Co. when I took this picture and never got a look at the front of it. Looks like they lowered the boom on top of the cab at some point.

I haven't run over anything lately-and it'll probably outperform the 550 Cat I drive, because I can't seem to make a trip without the engine light coming on, usually an intake valve actuator fault code. Just like on my last trip...but then it's been almost 3 months since they fixed it the last time-not bad for a Cat.

we have a fleet of pickups that follow us everywhere to pick up all the parts that fall off-there's a pretty big fine for littering these days.

If the drivetrains are original to both units about the real only difference would be the RW series truck, (Superliner) will have a two valve, E-6 series engine, where the R688 will have four valve heads. They are both dependable engines as far as I'm familiar. I'm certain the four valve heads would be a little more efficient in usage, but ...oh-never mind.

probably not,I was just passing by and it was indeed shiny. I was 83' 6'' away from it running 57.8 mph.

I left last Monday going to Broomfield Colorado. Was supposed to unload Wednesday, but we didn't get unloaded until Thursday. Then I loaded coiled wire in Pueblo going to Rome, Ga. so I didn't get home over the weekend.

I weigh 32,600 with a 379 Peterbilt and 48' aluminum spread axle trailer-that's full of fuel (300 gallons),with chains,binders,tarps,8 8' 4x4's,beveled wood,coil racks,tire chains,and other assorted crap I seldom need but gotta have.

reminds me of a joke I once heard- a couple was driving in Wisconsin and were arguing over how to pronounce the name of the town they were passing through. When they stopped to get a bite to eat the man said "I'll find out how to pronounce it". Just before he ordered his food he said "excuse me Miss, but how do you say the name of this place?" The young blond girl behind the counter leaned over and said very slowly "bur-ger-king". hilarious,eh?

when you weld galvanized steel you should have a fan blowing the fumes away from you or it'll make you sick. I've hauled lots of structural steel to the galvanizing plants in Ashland and Petersburg, Va. and Graham, N.C. And I pick up a lot of coils now where they galvanize them, with no ill affects-i'm pefectly normal
