  1. The trim / cal code is just a finer adjustment for the puter to use as a starting point was how it was explained to me ! Not totally necessary but not a bad idea to get it done! Good find RED Check the Guide pins while your rollers are up bud ! Also Bro some Advice ! Replace All the EUP bolts these tend to work loose and break occasionally!
  2. I believe the deed was done before the Volvo turds took over ! they didn't step in till 2003!
  3. I would run thru a valve set and see if you find any loose valves you may have a cam failure underway !
  4. Yup they missed the boat on that one! Our branch sold the bulk of thous trucks ! We had the opportunity to repower 3 or 4 with E9 in later years .The only draw back to this was the lack of engine braking! the repower paid for it self in a year or so, in fuel savings over the Buzzin dozen ! Allision wouldn't warranty the trans because of the torque of the E9! so we ended up converting to 12 speed manual trans ! Irony of this is I've heard the fat trucks are making a bit comeback of sorts these days! what is old ,is new again!
  5. Depending on the brand of starter that was installed My guess is the starter is faulty These starters go thru phazes where you get a bad batch of them ! Tri get the Delco branded stuff when replacing if they off this in Oz!

Barry I have a suggestion ! There from time to time are posts that get questions asked that have been answered several times ! The latest being idle set with switches! On gray engines ! this question has been asked more than a few times on the forums! I wonder if it would be helpful to make a new category TIPS AND REPAIR TRICKS  so guys can post the most common fixes for most commonly asked questions!  quite hounestly the seach feature is not that great at picking up on what your searching for!

    just a thought!

  7. Rev the engine with the foot pedal or cruise control to the desired set ie: 650 depress the clutch pedal ! I believe that will lock it in! https://f01.justanswer.com/diesel3153/b783e0a3-7099-4672-8fa2-def5c4dff508_Mack_engine_speed_control.pdf That there was posted by Mack pro awhile back!
  8. Yup ! how ever this little issue mentioned here causes a lot of grief for the dealers as well, dam nescience phone calls asking what's this code? is it important ? Bla bla , ! There is no problem making money for the dealers with New equipment of any sort! Mother Volvo IS all about the money and I guess they should be, got to impress the share holders! SELL THEM PARTS BOYS!
  9. Hey Bro ! brain Farts relieve pressure on brain strain !😇 They changed these 3 or 4 times extruded to intruded 9/16 to 15mm and 14mm how's a guy to remember everything your off the hook Buddy! We still love ya buddy 🥰 😂
  10. I have an added sequence when installing injector lines! It involves tightening the the injector down snug then backing it off to just touching tight! Then tightening and torquing the line ! Theory behind this is it allows for the injector to find its happy place if there is any variance in the alignment ball in the head! Not sure if it helps on the e7 but have done this for ever! As we used to have issues with the V8 Lines back in the day, specially when they converted to the Robert bosch fuel pump and were using the ball for elinment on the injector it seemed to help doing this! just something to try if you have a leaker!
  11. Sweet looking unit ! looks like some one looked after it!
  12. Not saying this is the case here BUT! I ran into this years ago ! I would be having the the dealer look in to the torque limit switch on the trans if the switch is engaged when this anomaly happens there may be a short circuit in the to wires heading to the torque limit switch causing the Ecu to think its in low! This will cut the power By almost exactly half no codes ! to eliminate this possibility cut or remove the wires at the VECU that come from the torque limit switch on the trans. just a place to look if your options are running out! Just sayin!
  13. Yup seen this happen many times with Allison equiped units just a hicup in the program settings! take it to a mack dealer have the dealer program the idle back to 650 and turn off the parameter to set the idle with switches! this parameter requires you to hit the clutch switch to set the idle ! you have no clutch pedal so your unable to finish the set sequence!

    EUP broke

It all depends on the extent of the damage! usually the cam and the cam followers are replaced!
  15. Egr Venturi tube!
  16. Agree ! The turbo needs to spool to create heat for the regen if the EGR valve is held open whether being told to by the computer or by the turbo being stuck it cant do it! If the DP sensor Or The Ports are clogged under the sensor the egr valve will gradually l be commanded open by the ECU as it thinks there is not enough egr flow !this creates more soot yada yada Its a vicious Circle! this seems to be one of the most common causes of face plugging pf the dpf From what we see at our shop!
  17. Agreed 100 percent! Forgot is a big one for me these days!😡
  18. I Second and third that ! If the truck is running wait till the parts are in your hands and are accounted for ! Specially Worse These days the parts chain is so messed up by the pandemic shit going on! LIsten GOOD!
  19. The other option you may have! is to back the gland nut out and stuff It with a leather shoe lace around the tap shaft and re install the nut just something to try if its leaking around the tap shaft! DO IT When the tank is low!
  20. Could be ! Any truck chassis ! including a Mack mack used that style bumper on several models
  21. just Create and an account under a a bogus name joe blo repairs or something like that I did that just so I can cross reference parts when the parts guys can find stuff I go look for my self! you can order I'm sure
  22. Yes old cam and new lifters is fine ! If the Cam looks usable it probably is! The problem you have there is Your working with an unknown ! And We are working with what you are telling us! In turn we are offering up the best advice according to our experiences! An over speed would constitute anything much over governed RPM !Back in the day this would happen a fare amount specially on a V8 Because these engines were so quiet! It would sneak up on ya on a down hill with the engine brake on! It Would be easy to look down at the tach and say Holy Crap!!!!! 2500 RPM 😡 Unless you got a good ear and tuned in to your unit Its sure to happen ! Very easy to do! Answer to the question Safe max RPM is Governed RPM! the engine can probably tolerate 2600 How ever Do you want to go there??
  23. Yup joe I didn't want to create an argument about it the opportunity arose to correct the statement here so I took it! 😇 The hundred psi statment was not an un truth just old news that had been revised!😌
  24. The pressure started out At 100 psi when the eteck first came out They lowered it as they had trouble with the EUP orings were hard to seal As I said earlier long as the fuel pressure stays between 60 and 80 full load it will run and pull fine ! The key here is the fuel pressure should stay above 60 when under load! When you stomp on the pedal in a no load condition the pressure should Go Up Not Down! The numbers you posted are good numbers! Very reasonable from what I have witnessed over the years! just sayin
  25. So just something to think on Here ! If indeed this engine had an over speed go on! These old style lifters didn't take kindly to being over speed conditions! The work face is brazed on and would shatter or crack! Personally Knowing what I have seen over the years here ! If indeed this engine got over sped and you are doing all this work , its worth the extra 500 or 1000 bucks to pull the cam and buy A SET of lifters from PAI and replace em! We just done a Cam here Sept 20th 2021 on a 88 RB . Mack parts was twice the price PAI did'nt have the cam at that point So we was stuck with the Volvo Criminalized pricing for the Cam but PAI had the new style lifters for a third less! and in this instance the lifters are the weak point! and if the truck has the old style lifters It may be a safe bet to change em! In my opinion Not worth taking a chance if your going this far! Just Sayin!
