  1. I've Seen this happen before! Where is the cyl located front or second lid back?If it is located in the front lid you can disable the lock out by cutting off the lock out portion of the shift rail !This can be done in the truck.we Need to idenfiy shift lid configuration!!! If the air shift is mounted on the front remove that lid and try to move the fork manually if it moves ok,cut the lock out grooves off of the frist speed shift rail that is sticking thru into the foward case with a zip disc Or grind a bit off the top part of the lock out groove and re assemble. There is also one other Possible fix Buy the proper gasket for that lid that may raise it up enough to clear the lock out groove!
  2. The noise he has is low on the block! To find a head gasket the best way to find it is to pour water over the area you suspect while the engine is runing the sound will change as the water passes over the area. The cam is more likly!
  3. Thataboy!I don't pull the lids on one with out asking if they want to replace bolts as a precaution warrenty or not !It amazed me that we went from a 7/16 sized bolt that never had a problem to one that was smaller than 3/8 to create a problem made no sence. The ac don't seem as bad as AI less bumps I guess.
  4. Yup me to! maybe not that bad but almost!
  5. CAM ROLLER! You have a cam job to do my friend! you changed the compressor ? then it sounds like you thought the sound was near that area,Likly one of #no 3or4 cam rollers has failed. pull the pan and look as 68 has said!
  6. Hows the air filter? Do you have boost leaks ? Does the truck smoke while under load?
  7. Good work! Your welcome ! were here to help if we can!
  8. Think positive!
  9. I'm guilty I drive a honda! Got a ford wouldn't own another. Same deal ford and the rest by there parts global Honda Im not sure!
  10. Mack/volvo is a united nations truck mostly anyway! The parts come from where ever they can get em cheapest!NO diffrent than ANY other maker in the bizz! Were just lucky they still assemble them here,See how long that lasts!
  11. >So maybe fjh is on to something with the hub Gambi the truck we were having problems with was wagon wheels (spokes ) Not Hub pilot! Not saying it cant happen but less likly!
  12. Good to hear! I would like to know what throtle response setting they messed with?We always set the torque setting to max before they left the shop! The Program >Because of the way the engine is set up the more fuel you pour in at the begining, the more smoke you get at take off the air isn't there to mix it with with it.Unfourtunatly, adding more fuel at that point will give you a bit better responce at a fuel cost!As long as your happy thats good.
  13. I beleive its a ch 613.Nice unit! Skunky fuel is about all I can think of! Looks like they bit using it so that would be a non issue. you need to trade???
  14. long shot here we ran into a truck years back that had a bad bounce coming up from the rear!tried everthing in the book! we finally ended up replacing hubs one at a time till we found a bad one!
  15. welcome to the site three sensors just behind the clutch pedal i beleive youll find one operates the light and buzzer
  16. I agree to a point!Trading down maybe counter productive trade wise is all! And the truck hes looking at has most of the problems delt with! duno hard call.

  18. Unfortunatly that happens alot!the Aset turned quite a few guys to the dark side,The grass is always greener on the other side! everyone else has there problems too, there aint no perfect solution. check out the horror stories from other sites cummins has there egr problems as well, cat aint in the running anymore for the time being Binder has there set of problems, and detroit the same, aint nothing going to be perfect!Like I said before the engine is pretty much reliable now for the most part! Your call! Not ours.
  19. Rocker bolts are easy! called The owner yet?
  20. Yup not nice!Did the problem go away for a bit after the seals?Air filter new?Runing temp is 180 is it getting there? If your idleing lots that dosent help things. How much oil does it use?All diesel engines need to work hard to stay tight no load on em is not good.
  21. Me too! Some what easier to work on too!
  22. If the engine has say 15000 hours on it, it has lots of life left!Providing its a stockfuel setting , Ive have seen em live250000- 300000 hrs no problem you could roll in a set of mains and rod bearings and it will live for alot longer.Bearing job 10 to 12 hours labor + parts.
