  1. I have put the clutch on the input shaft on the trans and then install the input shaft into the pilot brg. and then lift the clutch up and bolt to flywheel. If the bell housing has a opening in the bottom then you can do that. You will start a bolt in the pressure plate then turn the flywheel and start another bolt and when all have been started then tighten all bolts and then adjust clutch and let truck down and go home. Some guys do 10 and 13 speeds that way all time but what ever. glenn
  2. The 187 horse was changed some from the 170. Like you said it went to the P intake manifold and it got a thermostat as well. The fuel was set out alittle more and may have got a timing change but dont remember that for sure. The 187 horse had a full flow oil filter over the 500 luberfinder and a oil cooler was added. glenn
  3. try this at tecbrake it should still be a part that can be ordered http://www.tecbrake.net/pdf/part/tb990121.pdf
  4. Who was it that was looking for a off set tube for the tip turbin when insyalling a jake brake?
  5. That is from working on then instead of looking at them and guessing ant it Hand.
  6. mack had one and rockwell in the early 70s had one in the sqhd which was not a top loader.
  7. I have worked mack engines for many years and i can tell you i have never wondered about those #s so i am thinking you may not need them either. It is not the part # and it may mean something to some one but me and you will be ok with out knowing.
  8. I agree with you on the cat problem it looks like they should have started with a new engine but the rumor is they will be getting out of trucks soon but who knows. glenn
  9. You can exchange the shutterstat but i dont know if mack still cares them but most heavy duty parts store can order but call mack and they can tell you. glenn
  10. The shutterstat is in the water manfold and it knows all.
  11. Forget the welding procedure and i know what you are talking about that was a common problem and the countor bore salvage sleeve is the only fix that i think will help and then that depends on how deep the head bolt thread is cracked. glenn
  12. That is what that was happen on one model of the 60 series DD the pistonns was hanging in the housing just for a little bit and the valve would smack the piston but some kelp saying that it was the jake brake staying on and that can happen with a leaking or bad selnold but i said that is not going to make the valve stay open when the piston comes to the top and starts down so we got to checking then a service letter came out and told us to watch for the worn ridge in the piston housing. Some times you would finf metal in there from a piston failure and i think that caused alot of valves to drop.I have pulled alot of heads off of the DD and found valve marks in the top of the pistons and some times it is from the cam timing being off one tooth. glenn
  13. If it has happen two times on same cyl. then may have a exhaust brake problem. I dont know about the eteck but 60 series DD can have a exhaust brakehanging the valve open too long and hitting the piston and one of their units was hanging due to the piston having a wear ridge in the housing and it would hange on it just for a little bit. By the yoke pin being broke that sounds like a side ways force to do that but if one valve hangs down then that may do it. glenn
  14. It should have a 675 model on both engines if they are a 2valve and the jake may not work much better than the dynatard because the mack engine is not dealing with alot of cubit inches to start with like some cats or cummins. Some times a jake brake gets a bad rap to start with, it is not to be used to take place of the service brakes and i think some times people foget that it is only to be used on a long grade to keep from having to use the service brakes untill realy needed. I know on my truck i catch my self wanting to use it at ever stop but it is not desigined for that. glenn
  15. I should not have said that but i could not help my self. glenn
  16. A simple test to tell which set up you have is if they stop when you apply the brakes they may not be wedge brakes.
  17. I ant sure what his question is but that is the shifter air valve and i see some one is getting air supply thru the black 1/4 plactic hose at the suppy fitting to the air vave form the 62psi air regulator for the trans system and may be using the 62psi to shift their pto unit which is not fair at all.
  18. I may add to this , one simple way to check this is to crack a air line to a sevice chamber to see if any preesure is applied because a foot valve can hang down on the inside with out the thredle holding it down.glenn
  19. I worked for mack when the Bmodel was still in production and for a few years after the R came out you could get a cab kit for a R and use the B frame and radiator so i think you could go the other way using a R frame on a Bcab. The B cab front bracket will have to be used for the cab mount and clutch linkage and the steer box should be used.I have always wanted to use my B cab and front end on a late modeel straight frame and have checked in to it a little bit.I think the radiator will go down in side of the straight frame rail frame and the cab mounts can be fabed the way you want. The rear engine mounts will have to be compact to fit in between the trans and frane rail but white and western star did it. Then you can build a frame as you would like. You could install the steer box on the out side of the frame where it should be using alate steer box or i have a 1976 front alxe with the steer box built on it that would work on the front of a B. But using a R frame may be better and mount the steer boz behind the axle.
  20. He is right jake brake switch. glenn
  21. Thanks for all this help, and hope ya'll have patience. He wants to put a B series on a late model running gear such as a Pete/w cat power, etc, for a working road truck. The rear end of the hood, fender extentions on the long noses were what I was wondering if they would match the front of the B61 cab. We could have one complete running 61 and a parts 61 to work with if he used my old B61. Cab mounts and such would have to be made to get it all to sit on a late model frame. It may better to throw sentiment away and just get a B long nose, cab and all. Now that i know what you guys are up to then there ant no reason that what work with the B75 hood and complete fron end and it will bolt to the B61 cab because the front is the same on both cabs. glenn
  22. The rad. you have there is what i was calling a wide rad. the average B61 rad. was smaller than that. but that will work on a B61 small rad if you have fender and head light panels. Has the air cleaner been taken of of that truck?
  23. The air ride will spin more in rough ground than a camelback. The ideal of that is if you are loaded on a level road and the tandem will weigh 40000 lbs on the ground and has 65 lbs of air in each air bag then you roll one wheel up on a 6 inch rock then that bag will not deflate vere fast so what hapens is the other three wheels are lifted off of the ground to some degree for a few secs or untill the air is equall in all bags then your weight is back to the same on all four wheels with the same traction. But for a sec or two the traction on one wheel is greater than on the other three wheels when the one wheel was raised up.Now on a camelback if one wheel rolls up on top of a rock or what ever then that wheel is pushed up and the wheel on the other end of that same sping is pushed down by the same weight it took to raise that wheel so the traction on all four wheels remain about the same because the weight on the ground is the same on all four wheels. As far as getting stuck i dont know but i am sating you do not get as good traction on air as cameback and most dump trucks that have been around both will tell you the same. You may not have any trouble with air if you are not in rough stuff if there is any such thing.I dont know how you could get a better suspension than a camelback. Once you under stand the suspension and how tuff it is then it will sell the truck to you. As for as older trucks i like the old maxidyne and six speed and camelback with the dayton wheels for a off/ on road dump truck. glenn
  24. Scott does your B613 have the wide rad? Some B61 had the wide or big rad. like the B75 or B73. I remember a B615 that had the V8 and wide rad. I aways wanted one of them so i could put a cummins in it and drop the floor pan down on the drivers side.
  25. The hood will be too long and the rad. and fender and headlight panels will work but the rad. is the wide rad. on the B75 but the fender panels i think will not work but you should be able to find them and the fender will have the extenders on the rear which i think you can leve off. I have never did this but have worked on them long time and it looks to me that will work.If i had it i would want the large rad. on my truck. glenn
